so, i'm in year 12, uk. my parents are like sort-of connected with sikhism, but not much. they still eat meat and modify the hair, and while i try not too. my parents forces me to like remove the hairs and eat the meat and i try not to but i most of the time don't win and i feel guilty. i wanted to take amrit, but my parents don't let me and say im too young.  i've learnt gurmukhi and the rehat myraada from online and gurughar. every time i take a step towards being a sikh, they pull me back.  i feel like i'm losing my faith

what should i do? should i give up or should I wait till i'm more control of my life?

I know this forum does not allow meat discussion. but does rehat maryada say you should not eat meat?

I'd say start with doing Nitnem and Amrit Vela for a while before taking Amrit. If you are living the Rehat it becomes more easier to eventually take Amrit, if you never do paaht, it would be hard to keep the maryada.

As long as you are dependent on them, you'll have to do what they say.

They might want to prevent you from taking Amrit, but there's no possible objection they could make to you simply reading Gurbani.

Wake up early and read Gurbani. Memorize Nitnem. And Rehras and Kirtan Sohila. Read all of Guru Granth Sahib ji.

Read Sikh history. Read Bhai Gurdas ji's Vaars. Read Panth Prakash and then Suraj Prakash or listen to katha of them.

Listen to katha, especially by old-time preachers like Sant Gurbachan Singh Bhindran. And Maskeen ji.

There is plenty you can do before taking Amrit.

Also, get strong by exercising.

The rehit maryada published by the SGPC prohibits kutha.

If he's a generic Sikh who has parents who don't care about Rehit, they likely buy halal meat from time to time because often that's what's available in the store.

This is prohibited by all Sikh sects.

actually he sound like the prachar from the generic non-bana wearing amrit dharis from last century post-partition, with the mantra "don't eat meat, it's against sikhi" etc...

Can't be having that in the 2020s, not where Nihang Singhs are much more visible again in the panth!

I mean no offense, but arguing about meat one way or the other is pretty useless if someone doesn't know bani or rehat. For most people eating KFC is the same as jhatkaing an animal yourself.

    • I saw the video on TikTok I think. It was at Wembley Stadium and I was unable to bookmark/favourite it because Tiktok decided to refresh. It was the "mainstream" Chaupai Sahib you will hear at a Singh Sabha gurdwaras, usually so-called Ramgarhia gurdwaras and also for the past 100 year or so in Harimandir Sahib under the current committee system.  In other words, the sikhs who give up or quit at Lord of the Almighty Sword, provides a shield for my protection. With Your Hands you have saved me. You bestow help on me at all places and rescue me from pain and the designs of my demons.401. Kharag kait mai sarann tihaaree. Aap haath dai leho ubaaree. Sarab thor mo hoho sahaaee. Dustt dokh té leho bachaaee. (25) O The Lord of Sword, I seek Your protection. With Your Hands you have guarded me. At All Times be my Support. Save me from wickedness and pain. (25).
    • Bro, can you post from what line to what line they did paath of?
    • A decade later and I can show you all what the problem is. Both Khalsa Primary School and students from Pioneer Secondary Academy were invited for Vaisakhi celebrations, and they done a Chaupai Sahib paat. The problem is, they performed the politics ridden anti-dasam Bhasauria mutilated cut version of Benti Chaupai which is disrespectful to traditional puraatan samrpadaiye and mahapurakh. If bani politics is going to be used on children to skip lines from Dasam Pita ji dhan dhan Guru Gobind Singh ji's Benti Chaupai Sahib, that certain groups think it is ok to do, then @serious guptwas right to raise concerns a decade ago! IN 2024, when sangat is much more knowledgable about dasam bani and katha, when we have so many resources - then if we are not allowing our children to learn bani shud and let them choose their groups to follow later, then this raises RED FLAGS IN 2024!!!! AKAAAAL!
