Sikhs, Hindus condemn article

Punjab Feud

By UMENDRA SINGH, SPECIAL TO 24 HOURS

A joint meeting of Sikh and Hindu leaders Sunday condemned a local newspaper for publishing an article calling for the destruction of a 16th century Hindu temple in Punjab.

The president of the Vedic Hindu Cultural Society, Amrit Lal Arora, said the article in a Punjabi-language newspaper based in Surrey could incite religious hatred.

A spokesman for the Society, Vinay Sharma, said the article stated that the Durgiana Hindu temple in Amritsar, Punjab, should be destroyed because it was copy of the Harminder Sahib, the holiest Sikh shrine in Golden Temple in Amritsar as well.

Over the last two weeks, there was been violence in Punjab after a sect leader tried to imitate the last Guru of Sikhs, Guru Gobind Singhji.

"We would like all religious organizations to unite and condemn this kind of hate propaganda," Sharma said.

A local Sikh leader, Giani Harkirat Singh, called on the federal government to bring in laws to prosecute publishers and writers who propgate this kind of hate against one religion or another.

A Hindu-Sikh Unity Committee was formed to take action against the newspaper and file an official complaint with the RCMP for inciting religious hatred.

At this time, in 1984, whilst witnessing the outright slaughter of Sikhs across Punjab, this is what Mr Mehra of Dugriana Mandir had to say about Operation Bluestar (taken from the invasion of the Golden Temple, SS Kapoor)

'The indian television broadcast an interview by Mr Mehra of Durgiana Temple, a very imporant Hindu Temple in Amritsar, for having coined the phrase "Kacha, Kanga aur Kirpana; In Ko Bhejo Pakistan."

... meaning, any khalsa sikh (who keeps rehat of panj kakkar's)... they should all be send to Pakistan.

I visited the dugriana mandir (unwillingly)... and im sure you all dont need me to tell you, it really is a rip off of darbar sahib. that was a good hour of my life ill never get back

If any hinduda use these words like kacha...........................pakistan, answer him back by saying

dhoti topi yamuna paar.

At that time sikhs used to say to hindus,

Lala ji hun tusi kethe nu jana, kal to tuhade makan te sahda kabza ho zana.

what is the point of seeking hatred?...the temple is there...if it is not hurting anyone, then what is the point of just critiscing it. We already know where the real truth lies...and with time, Truth will always prevail...until that time does arrive, focus on ourselves, on how we can educate ourselves on not seeing others as "enemies" ....such words just lead to hatred and ignorance.

Just cuz a person has hatred inside of him, are you going to follow his lead and also start to blossom hate in yourself? or are you going to take the lead and not follow what others have said, and live today..as Guru sahib wants us to live, as proper sikhs of his, to live in a peaceful manner, along with tolerance and to approach each sitaution with an open-mind?

let us concentrate on ourselves, preach love and do what God has ordered us to do.

Let the Mandir be, if the Hindus need to show off their own religion because they can't stand the glory of Harmandir Sahib then that's their problem and not ours.

On the subject of inferior copies, the guy who laid the foundation stone of the Durgiana Mandir was Lala Lajpat Rai, he was some Lala who died from a heart attack after he was hit by a lathi blow from a policeman! He's referred to by Hindus as a Shaheed and as Sher-e-Punjab! LOL.gif
