Here is a nice Sakhi of Guru Nanak Dev Ji for a Friday afternoon. On one of his travels Guru Ji came to a town and stopped at the house of an old Sikh called Chundhwadi. He was very poor and was in a fluster as to what food to place in front of Guru Ji. He went to the local town not knowing what to do. While he was there he saw a gathering of people and went to see what was happening. It was a wrestling match and the local Nawab was parading his champion. Now, the champion was called Maskeen and was tall and muscular and was undefeated. He stood while the proud Nawab challenged all the town if there was any person who would take on his champion. Maskeen strode into th…

fateh ji, i had recently come accross a web site whereby muslims are trying to convert sikhs. now this topic of discussion is formally not about this, (note i said formally!) and i jus wanted to pose a question to the panth to help me understand.. a gift from bhai Mardana ji (i think... please clarify) or by some other muslim, gave a chorla (cloathing garment) to guru nanak dev ji. on this chorla, the writing that was on this garment was in arabi or farsi or that kind of language (again clarify...). what was written was "la ila-h ilallah, madmunsoor rosool allah". this (as i studied a bit of urdu arabi and farsi to understand dasmesh's pita's bani) means ' there is no g…

I personally love and recite the Taksali version of Sodar Rehras Sahib. However, I have come across the fact that the tuks like "Ram katha jug jug atal", and "Bishan bhagat ki eh phal hoi, aadh byaadh shwai sakai na koi" are questioned. Could someone please elaborate on these tuks, and maybe some more from Dasam Bani that are a part of Sodar Rehras Sahib. All I need is a proper understanding of these tuks from Dasam Bani. I am NOT saying here that one version of Rehraas is "smaller" or "longer", just want to learn about these tuks more. Thanks

In this shabad (in raag Goand), Bhagat Kabeer Jee describes characteristics of Maya in very simple words Entire shabad can be found here: http://sikhitothemax...p?ShabadID=3257 Let's look at a few tuks at a time Ksmu mrY qau nwir n rovY ] ausu rKvwrw Aauro hovY ] rKvwry kw hoie ibnws ] AwgY nrku eIhw Bog iblws ]1] Note: Metaphors used in shabad are from 15th century. Vaheguru ji ka khalsa Vaheguru ji ki fateh Some of you may be aware that some singhs have undertaken a huge seva and made available to the sangat the entire katha of Guru Granth Sahib Ji by Sant Gurbachan Singh Ji Khalsa Bhindranwale (12th jathedhar of Damdami Taksal). This seva is unique as it is the first time that the entire katha of maharajh has been made available in this way. The singhs who did the seva spent countless hourse transferring the audio from the old spools and cleaning it to make it audiable. Sangat ji, we are talking about cleaning over 600+ hours of katha and making sure that each word is as clear as possible. Given that a lot of kathavachaks today …

this is taken from the thread on tapoban, das thought we could all learn something from the seva bhai sahib is doing. >>>>>>>>>>> Important Bishraams in Siri Jap jee Sahib Posted by: kulbir singh (IP Logged) Date: November 09, 2007 06:48AM Important Bishraams in Siri Jap jee Sahib 1) There is a bishraam after “Gurprasaad”. Some Gursikhs say “Gurprasaad Japp” but this does not seem right. The meanings they derive are that one does japp of Vaheguru through Guru kee kirpa. But the topic in Mool Mantra is Vaheguru and not his jaap. So the word “Gurprasaad” means that Vaheguru is attained through the kirpa of Guru. Prasaad means kirpa and…

Although the first boy used to come earlier in the day the second boy used to spend just as much time with Shiv Ji’s statue. Unlike the first boy the second boy had to come under the co…

Naam Parkash what is naam? there are many meanings to naam, not just one. in reality, this is the naam of the ultimate reality. for instance, ice is but one name connected with coldness or with cold things which have solidified. similary, naam makes the existance of the almighty lord visible and in many other ways denotes his presence. naam is waheguru himself, other names of the lord are kirtam(kirtam naam - naam according to what work or action he represents). for example gopal means the person who sustains the earth (go-earth, and pal-one who sustains). naam is foremost; everything rests on naam. just like human beings, animals, earth, sky,the planets and the h…
