I've been told off this morning for not posting a sakhi (didn't know anyone was reading...) so this is for "Gupt" Paaji <_< and Akal Puruk Di Fauj Paaji - Cos GURU JI LOVES US!!!!!! I heard Bhai Davinder Singh Sodhi tell this story... A story of love between Bhai Nand Lal Ji and Guru Gobind Singh Sahib Bhai Nand Lal Ji as always brought Guru Gobind Singh Ji langar, prepared with their own hands... Guru Sahib would sit and enjoy this food daily, Bhai Nand Lal Ji noticed that Guru Sahib would always leave a tiny morsel of their food, only enough for one bite. They would then open the nearby window, where a small dog would bark for food. Guru Sahib would throw the…

Jagjot Singh Childhood I was born and raised in Ottawa, to a typical Punjabi family. Parents were not very religious but I think they were just a bit confused about the whole thing. So from a young age my parents had my brothers and my hair cut and they gave the typical reasons, you will not find a job, get teased. The interesting thing is that my dad never cut his hair and hated people of his generation that did it when they came here. Ottawa in those days was basically "Hicksville", and the Sardars would wear hats or cut their hair when outside but to the Gurdwara where these huge Punjabi boat pugs. There were only a few Sardars who actually kept there hair. So anyw…

WJKK WJKF, a sakhi... (from tapoban.org) The guru came into the congregation today in a different manner. He was playing with a rock, tossing it back and forth in his hands. The disciples of the guru asked him to share his reason for doing that. He then instructed a Sikh to go and get a bucket full of water and return. The disciple ran and brought back the bucket and placed it before the guru. Guru Gobind Singh Ji then released the rock from his hands into the bucket full of water. He then asked “Has the rock drowned”?. Sikhs came forward to see whether it had or not, then proclaimed, “yes it has drowned”. The guru than brought the next question for his disciples, “Why …

Wahiguru Ji Ka Khalsa Wahiguru Ji Ki Fateh Well I am just here generally to find out the views and opinions of my fellow brothers and sisters on whether we should consider reading english (or what ever language one best understands) gurbani. A lot of the time I tend to pick out phrases of gurbani and have a faint or near accurate understanding of the meaning of that verse. Also a lot of the time I tend to read gurbani and not understand a single word of it. This effectively causes me to loose focus on what I am reading. Then I always ask my self that "PAATH" is a prayer to GOD. Then if I am praying to GOD whilst thinking of other things, then this must mean my prayers…

Faithless becomes Faithful By Gurinder Singh I am a 21 year old Sikh living in United States. Moved to California, Usa when I was 17. I previously lived in Punjab and was very much interested in science and had little faith in God. I would see everything in this world through physics. I would apply physics law to make a better understanding of this world. Since God has no scientific proof of existence, I had doubts about the presence of God in this universe. However having studied in a Sikh school from first to eleventh grade, I would recite JapJi Sahib along with my classmates. Little did I know any meaning of the Gurbani and the purpose of life. The only belief about…
