Dear cyber sangat ji My younger brother Kalwant Singh who had been working in a sawmill in North Delta BC Canada for the past nearly 30 years in his perfect sikhi saroop was denied his job unless he wore a hard hat on top of his turban. Kalwant along with another colleague refused to wear a hard hat on top of their turbans and were fired. They have now decided to fight against such religious discrimination. I request sikh sangat in all of North America to provide them support moral or otherwise. They have lodged a complaint with the human rights organisation as well. http://www.nationalpost.com/nationalpost/s....html?id=412990 http://www.voiceonline.com/voice/thisw…

vaheguru ji ka khalsa vaheguru ji ki fateh Shaheed Bhai Jagjit Singh Babbar (Jammu) Wednesday 26th of December 2007 Translated by PW from Bhai Karamjit Singh Sikhanwala's Gurmukhi article What use is dependence on worldly beings as a Shaheed has no urge to preserve his life? Those who fight for wealth, lust or property will never understand why a Shaheed awaits his death so much. Even those who consider themselves equivalent to Lelaa-Majnu or Heer-Ranjha will not understand such sentiments because their love is bound to a certain limitation of self-interest. A martyr’s love for martyrdom is however based for the whole Panth, humanity and society. ਜੋ ਆਸ਼ਕ ਹੈਂ ਸ਼ਹਾਦ…

Sotheby's says it won't auction Sikh armour 8 Apr 2008, 0415 hrs IST,Rashmee Roshan Lall,TNN LONDON: Sotheby's has withdrawn from auction a set of 18th-century body armour that some Sikhs believe belonged to Guru Gobind Singh. But the world's largest auction house refused to explain its climbdown, even as a section of British Sikhs criticized Indian hysteria on the issue. Withdrawal of the armour — described by Sotheby's as a "rare Sikh steel armour plate" with an estimated value of between £10,000 and £12,000 — just 48 hours before auction, surprised many in the art world, especially as the auction house did not retract its earlier insistence that "we do not deem the…

Help locate lost relics: SGPC to UK 8 Apr 2008, 0422 hrs IST,Rashmee Roshan Lall,TNN LONDON: SGPC on Monday claimed victory after Sotheby’s withdrew from auction a set of 18th century Sikh body armour. "We are again requesting the (British) queen, who is the head of the church, to help Sikhs locate their lost relics and bring them back to India. SGPC would take care of all such revered items of the Sikh religion. The Central Sikh museum is the right place for such treasures," SGPC president Avtar Singh Makkar told TOI. Harking back to the 1984 Golden Temple complex siege, the pro-Khalistan Sikh Federation said it had "been liaising with Sikhs that represent over 500 g…

Just came across this video. The Shaolin Monks are amazing, so much discipline and concentration. At the end of the video the narrator says that in 1723 a Chinese Emperor invaded and destroyed the Shaolin Temple killing most the Monks and leaving only 5 Shaolin Monks left! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i_aUQmNbtm0

India: UN Rights Council Should Tackle Impunity Government Scrutinized for Failing to Protect Minority Rights (New York, April 07, 2008) – The United Nations Human Rights Council (HRC) should insist that the Indian government take strong steps to hold accountable members of its security forces responsible for torture, arbitrary detentions, killings, and “disappearances,” Human Rights Watch said today. The HRC should also demand that the government fulfill its responsibility to protect and support vulnerable communities, including Dalits, tribal groups, religious minorities, and women. India’s human rights record comes under the first-ever Universal Periodic Review (UPR…

Lately I've been watching all the drama over Tibet. One thing I notice is that all sorts of people, from different backgrounds and ages are willing to protest against China's treatment of Tibetans. What is the difference between us and Tibetans that make the western world turn a blind eye to what has happened to Sikhs? I sometimes get the notion that there is is some distrust and even hatred between the Anglo political setup and Sikhs. We all know that Sikhs were a powerful people prior to the British invasion of 1849, sometimes I think that many westerners in power would not like to see Sikhs in such a position again and are complicit in Sikh oppression, to make sure …
