  1. The Bible original language is Hebrew. Today there is probably less than 5% of Christians who can read Hebrew and then actually understand it. Speaking to Christains that can read Hebrew.......they have a real big problem with the english translations because the message throughout the Bible is lost. The Christians have split up into many groups because the english translations distorted the message. We the same thing happening today, with the english translation preachers. I hate to do this, but just look at the white Sikhs, specifically 3ho group. They don't know Gurmukhi (if a few do then still majority don't understand Gurbani) and they take the english translation has the correct meaning, then they come on sites like this and slander Gursikhs and laugh at Gurmat. I have one particular name in mind, but i won't say it because nothing is gained from stating the person's name. No doubt english parchar should be done, but it is only a preschool stepping stone to motivate people, so they can start learning Gurmukhi and recognize who their Guru is. We already have many splits in the Panth, we don't need another one because a few got lazy to learn Gurmukhi. Spend two minutes a day just trying to read Gurmukhi and/or punjabi. Count how many hours you spend hanging out with friends and infront of the tv. If knowing Guru Sahib is important to you then put in the effort to learn Gurmukhi. Go to Gursevak.com or Gurbaniupdesh.com to learn Gurmukhi.

  4. My Thoughts Regarding our Religion by Harman Sadana At times, I have preferred to go with the prevailing wind and be critical about my own religion, pointing out common flaws like apostasy, cultism, favoritism, bias, etc. But today I am standing back and looking at the larger picture, the brighter side of things as it were, and I want to put down a few reasons why I feel Sikhism stands out as a unique and powerful path in today's world. 1) It is not based on mythology but has a recorded history with ample amount of data and reference text in order to authenticate the time and venue of the occurrence of important events and their chronology.2) The message of its founder was purely universal in nature and is applicable to the entire humanity. It didn't denounce any other existing religion but instead gave birth to a new cosmopolitan ideology.3) The Siri Guru Granth Sahib stands not simply as a scripture. It is the embodiment of the Shabd Guru. It speaks not to the head but to the soul.4) It gives full respect to the Doctrine of predestination, but also to one's calling in life, according to which work is considered sacred, but it never equates self-worth with net-worth as it gives emphasis on spiritual sovereignty and not the accumulation of wealth.5) It provides perfect harmony between work and worship and encourages its followers to live a householder's life with a practical, dynamic balance between these two.6) It provides seekers with the technology to live spiritually in the world but not of it.7) It provides guidelines to experience nobility and self-mastery at the same time by the example of its 10th Guru.8) It never claims to be the result or the source/parent of any other religion. It is clear about its origin and independent identity.9) It does not, in any way, declare non-Sikhs as infidels.10) It is not at all proselytizing in nature and opposes forced and politically-motivated conversions.11) It is absolutely egalitarian in nature as it opposes the caste system that results in discrimination and is one of the reasons behind social stratification.12) It doesn't encourage nudity or carnality for realization of GOD.13) No male child or adolescent is compelled to go through the painful process of circumcision.14) No devotee has to go through the process of cutting, shaving or uprooting their hairs in order to prove renunciation or commitment.15) It encourages its followers to have a family life and not escape from worldly responsibilities in the name of spirituality.16) Bride capturing, stealing or forceful seduction into marriage is not permitted. This is commonly known as "Asura", "Rakshasa" and "Paisacha" form of marriage. Neither a bride-price nor a dowry is ever required for marriage.17) The dead are gracefully cremated and their earthly bodies are not left to rot.18) No offender of the code of conduct is sent to a place like the "tower of silence" but are allowed to state a reason for the offence and are allowed back by small remuneration and performance of community service.19) It lays emphasis on forgiveness and embodies the true spirit of non-violence, understanding that it is a position of strength, not weakness and that force may be used only when all other means have failed. Sikhs always stand in defense of other’s rights to live and worship as they please.20) All its sacred shrines are open to the entire humanity irrespective of caste, creed, color, race, religion, sex or nationality. http://www.sikhnet.c...ng-our-religion

  5. That is a cool picture I saved it. I'm pretty sure that midget is a child maybe one of the other Prince sons of Marharaja Ranjit Singh. So I got the Wacom Tablet heres a really rough sketch I did. I basically copied this face I found on the internet. I went through the face really fast just to test the pen out and then i played around with the colour. the eyes are lions eyes. I installed sketchbook pro but didn't really like it so I used photoshop since I've been using that for a while and am used to it. Does anyone know how to enable pressure sensitivity in photoshop?

  6. I disagree - Gurbani quotes are specfic - we are to recite as well as what you say too: "Gurbani gavoo bhaii eh safal sadaa sukhdai" "ayaoo parn sunnan ko banee" Gurbani is not vedas' or puraans, or kuraan or anywhere near those scriptiures - "Gurbani is Nirankaar" - recitiation of Gurbani is of extreme impportance as well as listening, applying in ones life.

  7. Everyone who complains about non-english speakers in Gurdwara should go and become an English speaking parcharak themselves. Until then, you have absolutely no right to complain. Be the change.

  8. Why 'and / or'? For a Sikh, English AND Panjabi should be studied until your eyes bleed and your head hurts, lol. They are both vitally important. Imagine being fluent in both and being able to read and write both!

  12. Maharaja Ranjit Singh listening to the Granth being recited near the Golden Temple, Amritsar. August Schoefft, ca. 1840's - 1855, Vienna, from a sketch made by Schoefft in Amritsar, 1841 I'm sure we've all seen this picture before but I had to post it again. I really do think this is breath-taking. The Granthi-sahib reading the bir on the right looks fantastic. Great colours and patterns which make the scene extremely vivid. I'm not sure why Maharaja Ranjit Singh feels the need to sit on a cushion / gadhi in the presence of Guru Sahib but there you go. Does anyone know what the little midget is doing at the bottom-middle of the picture? He looks like a court jester. Or is it a child?

  14. Theres a website called Islam to Sikhism. And I know someone who has written to the website to refute their false claims. infact they have spent nearly a year doing research and complied many essays which expose their lies. however. after sending the letter to the islam - sikhism website they have edidted out all the letter that was sent to them and have not posted the letter fully which completly takes to pieces their claims. they have obviously not posted the reply on the website because they know its the truth. However the person i know is quite upset after sending them replies but they dont post his letter upo and have edited most of it. He was actually thinking of making a website directly in responce to islam to sikhism. any ideas??

  16. could you ask, why we can't remember our past lives at all yet our karam are based on the actions of previous lifes? Is the concept of reincarnation in Sikhi different to sanskara in Hinduism?

  17. Focus on your education, play sports and study Gurbani. If you still have time then learn keertan or Gatka. Get a professional degree and a professional job, and then get married to a Singh appropriate for you. Its upto you whether you want your parents to find you one. Forget about this relationship garbage. You are just 17, a dangerous age, so best to focus on studies for now and get good grades. Having a boyfriend is something non-Amritdharis do, you said you are Amritdhari, so you can't get into this stuff. I know initially it all may seem pure, but at your age it doesn't take too long to turn impure. padhaayi ch dhiyaan de putt...agge jaake mundeyaan di koi ghaat ni rehni fer...saari umer kari jaayi chatting ohne sammne bithhaake
