  2. There are a number of views out there on where you should keep your dhyaan. Some people advise on focusing on the point between eyebrows, some say above the eyebrows but still in the center. Some will tell you not focus on these points until you can hear the anhad shabad resonating at this location. If you have not done extensive naam jaap and made your mind still i.e thoughtless then its pointless because you could start having visions/hallucinations which is not our path. From what I have heard it can be very difficult to come out of this stage because it becomes very enticing. From what I have learned most abhyaasis will say put your dhyaan on the agya chakra which is said to be between the eyebrows or higher. This involves straining the eyes which is very uncomfortable. If you look at the symbol of the agya chakra it is actually two eyes overlapping to form a circle in the center. That circle represents the bindu or mustard seed which is eventually seen with the inner eye if you look straight between the eyes not up. This location is known as the confluence or ida, pingula and sukhmana. Once you can hear the anhad sound at this point or you can see the light between the eyes then you transcend the Trikuti using this sound or light. This will automatically take your mind upwards, it is not done with straining the eyes. Easiest method in my opinion is first learn to still the mind by putting your dhyaan in front of your mouth where you listen to the jaap as it comes out of the mouth. Learn to do this so the mind doesn't take flights of thought. It listens with full attention to what is coming out of your mouth. Once you can hear every single recitation including the pauses between words for a while then slowly slowly lower the volume, but keep the mind focused on the shabad by carefully listening to the soft whisper. At this stage you will be able to do saas-saas simran i.e. Wahe on Inhale and Guru on Exhale. Once you have even mastered this and your mind doesn't take flights of thoughts then you take your jaap to internal mental jaap. You make your mind listen to your inner voice. As you do more and more jaap without thoughts and your mind becomes still you might begin to hear internal sounds of instruments. Your mouth might become sweet amongst other experiences. Hope that helps ji. I'm sure more experienced people will also give you their opinion.

  3. When sant/gurmukhs gives advise to seeker alone, its not a meant to be taken as general rule for all, its meant for only for seeker. Overall, there is no hard and fast rule as such it really depends on gristhi partners if they are on the same page and have guidance and capacity- sure couple of reasons i can think of gurmukh giving advise to gristhi not to concentrate on forehead- 1. Keep dhian on a forehead its not a child play, you need to be under guidance of mahapursh who can guide, without guidance it can have adverse effect on people- massive headache etc, small drizzle of divine bliss (without being ready), raw divine expereince/ridhiya sidhiya without shabad resonance/bairaag, take you away from gristhi life along with gurmat main aim, as one can get easily attached to it, after all one can have numerous amount of spiritual expereinces its endless, there is a big difference between spiritual experience and spiritual awakening- one can many spiritual expereinces and still have ego, spiritual awakening is full shift in identity 2. On the contary, if its done right incorporate shabad with dhyan, it can open up energy, shift in indentity which might be too hard to sustain (ask sat veer ji he knows more about this). The question isn't if you should keep dhian on forehead or not ? The real question is , are you ready for it? Gurmat does not dictate step by step process, its really left on individual state of mind given they have right guidance from mahapursh..However, gurmat does advise updesh which applies to all (grishti, sanyasi, yogi etc) spontenous awakening (sehaj smadhi) slowly gradually spontenously sehaj smadhi is more digestible than radical spike awakening (people usually fall off/can't handle it). Thats all i can think of..

  4. Correctly stated ! I would just like to add that one may read and learn as much as possible by self analysis and contemplation and have some good level of knowledge. However, I believe that when one starts doing all practically and with contemplation of every breath, then for the majority there will come the necessity for association with the right Sangat and a guide that is usually someone who has progressed on the same path and has the gian from all varying angles.

  5. Another inspiring post Harsharan jee ! :biggrin2: My benti to all the young and upcoming sikhs is to please do naam simran and jap whatever you can even if it's just a few minutes a day. Just like the fields can't flourish without water, we also can't flourish as spiritual risers and raise our consciousness without japping his name. 6. If you are attuned with your intuitive divine guidance consciousness/inner voice within (very rare to find) which guides you through in experience (during sehaj patt, gurbani vichar not conceptually or intellectually but actual gurbani contemplation in experience) then you don't need a mediator (its very rare) but if you are not then you need mediator which is meant to help to go introvert and explore gurbani within experience.

  7. Dear jasvendrasingh jee, Well, it all depends on who likes, needs or does not mind comments. These type of comments, by themselves do no harm to anybody. Each and everyone is free on taking it or not. This is a free world. Nobody should force anything on anybody, nor expect even to be accepted by all ...this is what I have seen and learnt from life after a long interaction with the characterless human beings ...who do not even spare the mahapurukhs.... The thing is, as you say, that there is no need to comments if one does not reach anywhere by reading or listening to so many sants... That is true, because mere words, mere intentions, do not take anyone anywhere, as long as you do not act upon what you hear and learn. Just by saying food or listening water, water ....will not quench your hunger neither your thirst...until you yourself, do not eat that food from the plate, or drink the water from your glass ...and this applies not only with you, or me, but with each and every soul who wants transformation, who wants the realization of the divine. It is practice of action that counts. It is practice of Nam that counts alone. All our Guru Sahibans, and all the true Gurmukhs from all over, stressed on Nam bhakti alone. Read the Bani from any Ang, from left to right, from up to down, or viceversa ..... it is only mahima of Nam that one finds. And then let us look at ourselves, how many of us sincerely follow this Gurmat implicitly. I think "kotan meh kot", some "virley jeevas", some wadbhagee only.... The rest of us are bound with many, many other things .... It is not being discussed here, if they are good or bad, or necessary, or anything alike... Only the base teachings of Gurmat are being highlighted, which is sole love and devotion at the Lotus Feet of Wahiguru Akal Purukh alone. But as Wahiguru is Nirankara, how to please Him and manifest Him within us? Well, for that the Bani says: Har Simran meh Prabh aap Nirankara. Means, in spite of Wahiguru being formless, colourless, He has hidden Himself in His simran.... Again the Bani says: Jin Har japeeya seh Har hoeeya, means, whosoever meditates on Him by his Simran, becomes Him. You see, the Bani constantly repeats, that by doing the practice of His simran only, can we become Him. The Bani does not say, eat this, drink this, wear this, go here, do this so many times, read this , light this .....nothing of these things.....this is all man made, though these things have been presented to us in a subtle way as our very own sikh identity... we have thus been deluded, to the extent we do not reason and try to see any logic, but we even fight with those who do not act like us, we see them as strangers, as intruders, as enemies in our community. On the other side, those who have supported and devloped all this paraphernalia, are taken as heros ... This world is made like that... where the truth is taken as poison, and the poison is taken as amrit... This is not only within our own sikh community, but it has been happening from Aad Jugad with all the humans of any age, of any time, country or creed ...there is no cure for it. Unless He Himself wants to make you believe in His Bani. Millions of us read the Bani regularly with faith, and follow our traditions, but tell me, how many of us do understand what is written in it? The Bani is so pure, so high, that even if one single Shabad of it, goes inside you, it is suffice to change one´s whole point of view, it is suffice to bring that change for betterment in oneself...because it is now when one is really walking towards Wahiguru. It is not bad to remind each other, hey what are you doing here? Do not waste your time, your life... Do something useful(Nam Simran) to return to our Father´s house. He is awaiting with His arms wide open, for whosoever wants to return, by understanding and practicing what the Bani says... And the Bani simply says: Saas saas simroh Gobind. You need not do anything else, apart from this spiritual practice of His Simran. As all other things, will engage one in karmas, and they maybe good karmas even, but it is only His Simran, which frees us from all bondages. Others are left, until they get tired and exhausted from this illusory creation .... where only pain, misery, falsehood or untruth prevails.

  8. I think because it's a highly spiritual to do dhyaan at forhead for ghrists, as they might get immense bairaag and want to leave the gresth jeewan, it might be advisable at later age. But ones who have Guru sahibs kirpa might do it and still be good in their gresth jeewan.

  12. Phew, sitting today while reviewing some legal / policy papers, a thought came to my mind and it somehow lead me to search for Sikh Sangat on the web. To much shock and amazement i was surprised that the forum is still around. Though it has changed a LOT from the days of 2004, but having seen one after another Sikhi website fall in peril, I am glad it is still around. Its so different with all this facebooks and twitters and ads etc, after all i logged in after 6 years to my surprise the admins did not delete the databases etc and have kept up the good work. I look forward to reading some great posts and having even greater discussions here once again. WJKK, WJKF!

  14. Would it be possible for Akal Takht (or any Sikh organisation) to approach someone like KS Makhan, who became Amritdhari last year, and get him or other(s) singers to start a campaign against the gundh in the music songs/videos? Someone like KS Makhan or another singer(s) may be able to influence through words, their peers to persuade them not to make these songs/videos. However, I wouldn't be surprised if singers who have record/video contracts don't want to go against the companies, and are afraid of not being able to make money.

This reference should be more than enough i beleive- fwd to 1.22.49 But do listen to full katha of jaap sahib by sant jarnail singh khalsa bhindranwale even though its 2 hrs, each and every word can be expanded into infinite gyan - ..i remember listening to full katha last year in june, listened to it over and over again for 8 hrs and made notes for myself when i revise my notes its a tiny glimpse of infine ocean, i listen to again, i feel i still don't have iota of depth to grasp jaap sahib...this bani was truly made for everyone including bhramgyanis, real profound infinite depth of jaap sahib can only be anubhav in bhramgyan, for us mere mortals we can touch the tip of ice berg of jaap sahib.

  17. Gaytri Mantra because that's what it refered to in puratan granth I beleive. Hindus also have their own Mool Mantra - OM Satchitananda.. fairly popular used. What's next stop calling Sikh Mool Mantra as Mool Mantra because hindus have their own. Unbelievable paranoia, fear and insecurity, in next 50 years our traditional names will be reduced to dust if we keep following this type of mentality.

He translated the Mahabharata into Hindu poetry. Gobind Gita which he attributed to Guru Gobind Singh was in all probability written by him. It contains 18 chapters of the Bhagvat Gita in the poetic style of Krishan Lal and not of the Guru.

  24. As per my personal experience even after 40 years of research in ruhaniyat, there is certainly a need of a mediator to understand Gurbani. And that is because, the Bani of our Guru Sahibans is pure, is paviter, and as such, is expressed by higher level of Consciousness. On the contrary, we are moorakhs, mugadhs, we are stone heartened... how can we ever understand it ? Our minds are dirty, so we are manipulators, there is no way.....unless we are fortunate enough, to come in the sangat of a Gurmukh, a Sadh.... that is it. The ambrosial Bani is full of praises of this type of Gurmukhs. There is a faboulous Shabad which illustrates this affirmation: Sun Sajjan preetam mereeya, meh Satgur devoh dikhaal. Here, the sikh , the soul is praying to the Lord, by asking Him to make him meet with a Satguru, a Gurmukh... Let us pay attention to its depth, its beauty.... the soul is not asking Wahiguru to reveal Himself, so to have His darshan; but is rather asking Him, to make him meet with a Gurmukh. We may be surprised, and ask why so? Why not directly? Well such is the path designed by Him.... nobody can go back to Him, without the mediator in the form of a Gurmukh, a Sadh.... a Brahamgyani, a Sant Jan .... That is why also, the Bani says: Awar kaaj tere kitteh na kam, mil Sadh Sangat, bhaj kewal Nam. The Bani says, nothing else is of your avail, leave everything aside, just take refuge, take shelter under a Gurmukh, get from Him the Gurparsad, and do its kamaee, or Nam Bhakti. Christ also says: nobody can go unto the Father except through me. He who has seeth me, has seen the Father, for I and the Father are one. Christ was a Gurmukh, and He also clears our doubts by saying, that nobody can go and meet Wahiguru just like that, but until He(Christ, Gurmukh, Sadh...) Himself opens the inner doors of the chambers of His Court, because Wahiguru has kept the key of His Chamber, in the hands of these Gurmukhs. And so we may ask, what is this key? Well the Bani says, it is the Gurparsad of Nam, which we saw in the above tuk: Mil sadh Sangat... for what? Let us think... is it to have coffee and tea with them? Or to go to the cinema, or do wordly business, etc etc etc.... No none of these things, but to humbly go and spread our jholees, and get the Gurparsad from them... as the Bani says: jis vakhar ko laen toon ayaah, Ram Nam, Santan ghar paayaah... I am quite consciouss, many may get offended and say all this is rubbish, but it is not their fault, as it is that what we have seen and heard since we were born...since some several hundred years back, so what the Bani really means, is something very different to what we perceive or the way we perceive. No matter if one has done PHd or masters in Gurbanism or sikhism....this is not a worldly science... Sikhism is the science of the soul and its creator Wahiguru, so naturally only a true Master, a Gurmukh can only make us understand what all true Gurmukhs have said, and stated in their Bani... Gurmat is the language used by these higher souls .... and we are ignorants, maha moorakhs, blind... The Bani says: main andhuley kee tek, tera Nam adhaar. Means we are all blind, and unless we take the support of Nam, we can not move even an inch towards our goal Wahiguru. No true Gurmukh comes to make any new dharam or religion. It is we stupid humans who have limited thier Bani, within the limits of our minds and by mixing it with politics and rituals, rites, idol worship, etc.... The goal of any Gurmukh, is only to make us merge in Wahiguru, irrespective of gender, caste, creed, dharam, mazab, social status, nothing of that sort which is related to the body, but they emphasize on only one thing: bhaj kewal Nam .
