  1. My identity is not defined by or dependent on which place I was born, or which family I was born into, or what language they spoke, or what religion they followed, or what culture they were part of, or what ancestral lineage they had allegiance to, or which was their ethnic homeland. None of that was my choice. Thus my sole identity is only what I chose to be in life, i.e. Sikh. And if you think about it, even that wasn’t my choice, it was a blessing I was destined and chosen for. Thank you Guru Sahib! Mehtab Singh Jan 21, 2014

  2. I am Sikh and Punjabi. They are two different things - but also intertwined. Waheguru chose Sikhi to be cradled in the land of Punjab. Punjab is special. One is my Dharam and the other my Dharti. The question of choice is unfair as the human form comes as individual entities made up of complex influences which others will see or judge you by. Denying your humanity by claiming it is one entity is unfortunate. Only the atma can claim to be a pure entity of dharam and only Waheguru can see that.

  6. Joking aside, Panch/Anhad Shabad/Naad is celestial music around everyone since the beginning, we just cannot hear it until the ego pardha is lifted. Serious seekers of Vaheguru have many wonderful mystical experiences including hearing these melodious sounds, smelling sweet smells, seeing bright lights and eventually they see the One in everything and everywhere.

  7. the 10 bodies of sareer like soul body, aura, pranic, energy, positive mind, negative mind, neutral,...arcline....etc.. They have varying names and sometimes, some of them are grouped together such as mind body's may be grouped as one and then you have less than 10 ! High avastha abyasees and brahmgyanis can see most of these around everyone, especially the aura, pranic and energies. They can also see/feel the atma/paramatma within all of us.

  10. Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh 30 years ago, on 3rd June 1984, Indira Gandhi (a corrupt dictator of India who abused the rule of law) ordered the Indian army to conduct a Sikh Genocide and attack the most holiest Sikh Gurdwara (Sri Harmandir Sahib, Amritsar also known as the Golden Temple) and up to 40 other Sikh Gurdwara's across the Punjab. Thousands of Sikhs, including women and children were murdered. An Indian army of 100,000 mobilized and deployed throughout Punjab with automatic weapons, tanks, artillery, helicopters and armoured vehicles against civilian Sikhs who were mainly farmers. The media was banned. The pretext to the Sikh genocide was that the army were seeking to arrest one man... The Akal Takht, the symbolic seat of supreme Sikh temporal authority was reduced to rubble. Gurdwara Darbar Sahib was damaged with over 300 tank shells and bullets. The Sikh Reference Library with precious hand written manuscripts of the Gurus was looted and then burned to the ground. The Akal Takht treasury Toshakhana with priceless historical artefacts of Maharaja Ranjit Singh was also looted and burned. Can you imagine the Italian army destroying the Vatican? or the Saudi's ordering an attack on Mecca? Some governments, including the UK, betrayed the Sikhs and supported the Indians against the Sikhs. The world's press supported unsubstantiated, false claims by Indian propaganda and dehumanized Sikh's (one of the eight stages of Genocide), calling them extremists/ militants. Are you taking part in one of the many organised marches across the world? If so, where? (New York, London, ?) Why did the world, including the UN, turn a blind eye? Do you think justice will ever be done? To commemorate the 30th anniversary of the Sikh Genocide we have released a collection of 71 speeches by Baba Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale and a set of speeches by Bhai Jaswant Singh Khalra (who uncovered Sikh genocide with Indian Police involvement during the 1984-94 period). Both paid for their service to Sikhi by being murdered at the hands of the Indian state. http://www.discoversikhism.com/sikh_media/speeches_of_baba_jarnail_singh_bhindranwale.html http://www.discoversikhism.com/sikh_media/speeches_of_bhai_jaswant_singh_khalra.html If you have any more speeches of Baba Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale, Bhai Jaswant Singh Khalra or anyone else, please let us know. To commemorate the 30th anniversary of the Sikh Genocide we have released pages with more information on Sikh Genocide and Sikh Freedom Movements. http://www.discoversikhism.com/sikhism/freedom.html http://www.discoversikhism.com/sikhism/ghallughara.html

  11. Alright, I think I have already posted this in another thread but I think this is could be a discussion in its own, hence I am starting this thread. Time for Sikhs to le go of this garbage called Panjabi culture. All this filth of Heer Ranjjha, Sassi-Punnu, Sohni-Mahiwal, Bulle Shah, Waris Shah etc was spouted by Muslims. It certainly has nothing to do with Sikhi and contradicts everything that Sikh religion stands for. As for the moderns "Panjabi culture" thee less said the better- it is all about casteism, getting drunk/high or false pride disguised as "anakh". Panjabi culture is a defective, stupid and pagan culture. One of the key objectives o Sikh religion was to emancipate the masses from the falsehood of this silly pagan culture and lead them to the path of truth. Anybody could be a Panjabi. Those Muslims from West Panjab and Malerkotla, those Panjabi Hindus, those cults like Ravidasis,Radha Swamis, Dera Lucha Sauda and all such zillion followers of such false evil cults are all Panjabis. Should we embrace them as our brothers? Well I can tell you that they would more than glad to see Sikhs become extinct. It is time to wake up from this illusion of "Panjabiyat " and "Panjabi brotherhood". I say, let Panjabi culture and "Panjabiyat" go to hell. Let both sides of Panjab burn and turn into wastelands. All this would could be tolerated as long as Sikhi prospers and proliferates. Time to make up your minds folks- who are you? Sikh or Panjabi?

  15. Which is why we are Sikhs first. Lets not forget there were Hindus, Muslims, and perhaps even Buddhists and Jains in Punjab before 1469. Lol, we can't just tell them "You guys are not Punjabis because you are not Sikhs". In fact , if you go by religion, perhaps Muslims (Pakistani Punjabi ones) are a majority of the Punjabi speaking population in the subcontinent. My point is no one has the copyright for Punjabiyat or for being called more Punjabi than someone else of another religion. So once again, we are Sikhs first, that is a choice we make (not exactly a choice but a blessing I'd say). Being an Indian or Punjabi is not something you choose to be born into. Thats again just my opinion, and I can be wrong.

  20. Yep...agree about that one. You are right about the unnecessary ghand in the other 2, but the deeper morals are there. I would recommend ''Crash'' which is a real good story that shows hukam and karma all intertwined into the paths of 3 different destinies all meeting together at one point !

  21. A decent girl with high morals/values and University do not mix together. a lot of Sikh/Hindu girls have just become like typical white girls of modern Britian. Its about partying non stop, who can down the most drinks and who can flash the body parts the most in clubs. This is the empty life these people lead . No to mention drug and alcohol abuse, dating and sleeping around. That is what Uni is all about. Girls have simply lost all their self respect. I saw one Sikh girl with a group of white lads?? Why is this girl hanging around a group of boys in the first place?? Both Hindus and Sikhs are facing a major problem of girls who are marrying the ingenious people of this country. within a generation or two it will become the norm for Sikh and Hindu girls to marry white people. And then Sikh and Hindu males will face a shortage of girls to marry. Its already happening. Many Sikhs and Hindus are going back to India to find a Wife as there are no decent ones left on this country. This crisis is inevitable the girls of today are uncontrollable they are way to independent and strong willed to listen to their parents. to them being in love and relationships is all that matters. These girls enjoy to date non Sikhs while laughing behind their own parents faces. to them getting drunk and having as many flings as possible at uni is the way to go. How can anyone control these girls?? Sadly we cannot stop this. apart from educating our own families. ie our immediate relatives. I have done alot. ie I give speaches and tell them dating and all this malarky getting drunk is the fools life.

  22. Education of children and strengthening Sikhi roots from the beginning are extremely important and making them feel proud of our glorious history, reminding them of our shaheeds and kurbanian from Guru Arjan Sahib to present and spending precious time with them is the solution. Taking kids to the Gurdwara without them understanding the purpose or meanings of Gurbani is also where parents fail. Some are forced against their will to sit through katha for instance without knowing the basics and to them it is a foreign language as everyday Punjabi terms are not used. This results in weakness in the minds of these kids who turn to other faiths or give up hope when faced with the attractions/distractions of the world. If the seed is planted early on, even if children deviate (less likely if brought up properly) then there is a higher probability they will return to the fold of Sikhi. Rest is down to karma sprouting for this lady so not for us to be judges, leave that to Dharamraj.

  23. See I don't feel that somebody is a Sikh unless they make a conscious effort to accept Sikhi to some degree... I don't think being born into Sikhi cuts it, it's like being born into a family of accountants and claiming to be an accountant. A real Sikh should marry another Sikh, of course. Too be honest jee this I'm coming from my experience as an ex-Punjabi non-Sikh girl who didn't know anything about Sikhi, I can totally understand the mindset of the girls you criticise and I can see how unfair it is to do so.

  24. Not a movie but the whole of Game of Thrones has had some very thought provoking scenes and has many deeper meanings. Loyalty to your family is one big theme that we can maybe relate to. Its full of politics as well. Unfortunately its full of gandh (adult scenes) at some points but I think that's on purpose i.e. to give a sort of notion that if this happened then this is the way it would happen? Its pretty gruesome as well, a lot of blood and guts. The last episode was great where Tyrion was on trial for a murder that he didn't commit. It seemed quite familiar to sort of thing that we as Sikhs are facing in India with all of the gross injustice, salt rubbed in our wounds etc. Wolf of Wall Street This again in full gandh (adult scenes) but the underlying message is like a wake up call for people who are in that environment. The person who the film is based, jordan belfort, has said that the movie doesn't go far enough in showing how degraded his lifestyle was. The Pursuit of Happiness Great film! By the way at some point in this thread someone is bound to pick up on the point that we should limit the amount of TV/movies we watch as it has a massive impact on our spiritual progress! I thought I'd mention it first!!

  25. Wjkk wjkf. I have a question. Im 16. I had a major exam before this. I always worked hard. I did my very best. While waiting for the results i always asked waheguru to get me straight a's for it. But 1 day i while praying, i told babaji that if i dont get straight a's for my next majors is okay but this please maje me get straight a's. It took roughly 3 months for the results to come out. So i got straight a"s for that exam im really greatful but now im scared what if babaji dont make me get straight a's for my next majors even if i work hard? Should i be worried bout it?

  28. Lets be fair here. The young lady has gone through what none of us would ever like to go through ourselves! The non sikh practice of honour killings. Can anyone say that they wouldnt have some jaded view of a faith BASED on the knowladge and background. So she married a Muslim. She wasnt/isnt a Sikh. You are not born a Sikh but become a Sikh through your actions and yes a family with strong education can help. Instead of pointing out her faults decide to take action against the crippling castist culture that is excused in our community. Campaign for an end to female abortions, educate yourselves so our children have the knowladge and the tools to become great Sikhs. Leave this lady alone.
