  1. Thanks for your response. The proposals sound typical of organisations in our community - everyone is a Chief and no Indians!! From what I understand then, The Sikh Federation is not a political party - though it is often mentioned as being the first Sikh political party in the UK? It is not registered with the UK's Electoral Commission which is a statutory requirement for political parties in the UK. Also I can't find a website or any information on its leadership (except 1 or 2 people), its funding and other activities. Greater transparency would be a step in the right direction.
  2. It's a minimum tariff of 25 years - so he will have to serve that, no matter what.
  3. That's quite an interesting set of proposals. I don't know if you know the answers to my questions, but in terms of its constitution how are the leaders of the Sikh Federation appointed and how does its policy making work? If it is keen to grow its influence in the UK and abroad - then wouldn't it be better for it to provide ways in which the wider Sikh sangat can influence its policy agenda and also run for office?
  4. If you read what i wrote... I said his mum was a Sikh - I did not say he was a Sikh. You forget that our Gurus fought for the rights of these 'idol worshippers' to go to their mandir and worship. I suggest you study our history.
  5. It is sad that an issue this important and where people have genuine differences of opinion has been brought down to the most immature name calling I have seen for a long while.
  6. As expected the typical knee <banned word filter activated> reaction to Kally's suggestion from most members on this site .....and no, I am not an atheist, RSS informer, GoI agent! Kally - what you suggest has some validity. The Sikh community needs to move on but it must continue to press the relevant authorities to bring people who committed crimes at that time to justice. People mention the Jews - they have good relations with Germany but they continue to search out Nazis who committed war crimes. The Japanese are American allies - irrespective of the fact that America nuked Japan in 1945. In Northern Ireland, convicted terrorists have been freed as part of the peace process. Most Sikhs have moved on - it is a tiny minority - most of who were not even born in 1984 - who support Khalistan and think there is some State conspiracy against Sikhs. Most Sikhs know better than that.
  7. The implication of your point is that every book should be about everything?? I think we should congratulate the authors on takings aspects of our religion to a wider audience.
  8. Most Sikhs do not support Khalistan - therefore there should be no reference to Khalistan in the Ardas. Most Sikhs are intelligent enough to know that any independent Sikh state would become a basket case like Pakistan or Afghanistan.
  9. The British government would not curb demonstrations against Indian policy in any area. The UK is a country where that does not happen. This is a country where very volatile anti-Israeli demonstrations were allowed very close to the Israeli embassy....where the Falun Gong movement was not prevented from demonstrating outside the Chinese Embassy for many years. Perhaps the more intelligent among you may have realised that this article probably includes planted quotes designed to imply that Mr Mukherjee had actually achieved some action from the UK government on this issue.
  10. You should be ashamed of yourself making a comment like that. You are no Warrior Singh.
  11. OUR OWN??? Us from a faith where our Gurus gave their lives to protect people of other faiths?? I think you have an 'chip on your shoulder' about something - that is why you think everything and everyone is anti-Sikh (e.g. every media group from the UK to India).
  12. This is clearly very sad for his family and I offer them my condolences. Those of you who have implied that this is some systematic murder of a man because he was a Sikh should be ashamed of yourselves. You have no evidence to support this....and to use a sub title 'Paki arrested' - In the eyes of racist whites, we are all Pakis and don't forget that. Grow up and don't indulge in the most crude form of Islam bashing. It says more about your own inferiority complex.
  13. Can you give me details of just one reputable source where you have got your 'facts' from. I don't think you have a good understanding of the current economic situation in India. for example, farmers in the Punjab receive guaranteed prices for their crops from the government (and they are certainly not 5% of international prices) . They also received free or heavily subsidised electricity, water for irrigation and fertiliser.
  14. There is no excuse to consume alcohol on gurdwara premises.
  15. ..perhaps because they are the constant "Islam bashing" that goes on the Daily Mail??? or maybe Nihal is an agent of the RSS???
  16. Evolution is an ongoing process and therefore we can not say that we are the pinnacle of it - as we don't know what the future holds.
  17. If we were to agree with your rather ridiculous suggestion, then shouldn't we drop the term Bluestar too - because that was also coined by the Indian (army) government????
  18. I don't think I have read such nonsense about evolutionary theory before. Give me one example on the planet where the Theory of Evolution has been disproved in the 150 years since it was formulated?? Darwin and Russell spent 20 years studying how animals and plants adapted to the environment. Darwin had no agenda - he was a scientist - analysing the EVIDENCE and developing theories to explain it. Humans did not evolve from monkeys - but both have evolved from a common ancestor. Every scripture has explanations for the emergence of human beings - but they were written at a time when scientific analysis was underdeveloped and people (who were mostly illiterate) wanted explanations... Read The Selfish Gene by Richard Dawkins if you want a proper analysis of how evolution works.
  19. I was at someone's house attending a paath yesterday (in the West Midlands)....and the granthi (who was from one of the main gurdwara which sent many coaches) said that many people had gone on the coaches to enjoy a day out in London. I am sure that was the case because the numbers on the march looked quite low to me - from the video footage and pictures. The figure quoted by the BBC of 25,000 is probably near the mark.
  20. Why do you call Nihal scum and suggest a boycott of the BBC? Why use personal insults against an individual who you do not know - except for the 2 hours that he is trying to act as a neutral judge in a radio debate.
  21. Maybe one of you know the answer to this question.... in Khalistan, what protection would there be for people who practice minority religions such as hinduism or islam. Would their rights to worship be protected? Would they be allowed to build and maintain places of worship?
  22. I have not personally asked him or seen him - but I have very close family (whose views I trust) who are from Moranwali and his sister is a neighbour. Personally, if someone wants to eat meat, drink alcohol, leave their wife and kids and/or have an affair - then that this their issue....but he needs to be exposed because he is a hypocrite of the highest order and presents himself as a great khalsa figure. He is a charismatic speaker...and I can understand how people can fall for him ....... but his comments following the Babbu Maan episode made me very annoyed. He made much of the shameful lifestyles of these Punjabi singers - pot calling the kettle black..I think.
  23. If our own people behave like this in the presence of the Guru Granth Sahib ..... we have no hope.!!
