  1. actually just to clarify for the november kirtan darbar... the idea to bring the abhilakhis following the panj piyaraay was brought up from the beginning..and was accepted...as well as communicated to the panj and they were okay with it... some singhs made an issue out of it as the kirtan darbar approached because they disagreed..in the end ..it was agreed that the panj piyaraay would come into the divan hall.. but they decided not to come at the end because the amrit sanchar had started a lot later than they had anticipated and the gursikhs doing punj seva had to drive back to toronto and be up for their morning programs... as someone who had talked to jaspaul singh from the beginning of that situation..i find it funny how the story has changed almost a year later....hmmm....
  2. i think a major part as to why people keep making the shaving rferences is cuz like you said..you DON'T keep your full beard...so i guess people see the stuble look and are like...the guy should shave.. however if you do keep your full dhari...sure it might happen once or twice...but people will see that you're serious and stop... and as for pride...there is no pride in kes or dhari without having pride in your guru first....loving the guru, surrendering to Him gives the type of confidence that guru ji talks about when he says he can make his one gursikh fight sava lakh faujaan... when you become the guru's...He becomes yours...and he will take you through life...through all your trials and tribulations...always making sure his sikh comes out clean and unhurt....that's the love he has for us...he is only waiting for you to ask for that love... speaking from personal experience..i live in canada...have always kept my kes...i used to get the normal "turbinator" remars when i was in elementary..but by high school..i was respected by my peers simply cuz i never cared what others had to say..and always did my own thing...never followed the crowd...at the same time i was alwasy involved in extracurriculars and stuff..so a lot of people got to know the "kid in the turban"..and they;d ask questions..and they'd respect the faith... even today...i'm living in a city and going to school where there is two other sardars...and i don't generally get any discrimination...and the odd time that anything will happen...it's usually my friends who will jump up first...and me calming them down...hehe but the secret to all this kirpa of guru ji is Sadh sangat....i grew up around veers who were older than me..who were into sikhi..and were fully involved in society too...who while living in society showed society what gursikhs are...i've been very fortunate to grow up around these people...i truly believe that had i not the guidance of elders, the sangat of great saints, guru ji being the centre of our family, and the sangat of soo many inspiring veers and bhens...i would have turned out completely different... so veerji...the answer to your question...is simple...run to guru ji...run to any sadh sangat in guru ji's hazoori...seek shelter wiht the saints of simran...seek shelter with your guru ji...let Him inspire you... i don't like to tell people to stop cuting their hair..or keep your dari...cuz it's pointless until you make that relationship with your guru ji....so read gurbani...listen to kathas...read our ithaas...do sangat with gursikhs...and Do simran...and most of all DO ARDAS...to guru ji to bless you with the love for His kes...the love for gursikhi...the love for humanity (including those that make fun of your beard)..the courage to walk His path...the courage to become a harjan.... and i guarantee....with that yearning, that inspiration, that love...the kes you will get...will be sarbloh itself..and no force on this planet will be able to cut them...it will become your soul manifested...cutting your kes..would be cutting your soul....and for a naam abhiyaasi...that is a death that is far greater than the physical death... i hope some of that made sense... waheguru ji ka khalsa waheguru ji ki fateh i think a major part as to why people keep making the shaving rferences is cuz like you said..you DON'T keep your full 3. waheguru ji ka khalsa waheguru ji ki fateh, i was just wondering if anyone would know if the gurbani searcher made for the pocket pc (windows based) would be made available for the Palm OS any time? thanks
  4. many of bhai vir singh ji's books are available at sacha sauda also, books of prof puran singh ji, both the english written ones and the punjabi are also available at the same store.. these two authors are gems of our panths, who were true naam abhiyaasi gurmukhs who wrote what came to them through their anbhuv... i'd say that Spirit Born People by Prof. Puran singh ji should be a MUST read by every young spiritual aspiring sikh.
  5. your zest for preventing beadbi of guru maharaj is very commendable. i'm sure you've heard about the recent events that have taken place at akal takt where our so called panthic leaders couldn't have put on a bigger display of disrespect to guru maharaj. this incident aside...if anyone goes to harmandir sahib, there are many ways in which they disrespect guru sahib there and as well as other ithaasic gurdwaras in india (manikaran for example which has pictures of shiva in teh darbar), as well as "gurdwaras" abroad that are full of corruption. my question is, shouldn't guru maharaj be taken out of these institutions too? i mean just cuz something is called a sikh institution and the keepers of the place might have drunk the amrit from khanda batta they can get away with disrespecting maharaj and doing MORE harm to the Sikh panth than any hotel could ever do? seriously...any hotel, restaurant or whatever that has any brains or internet access can turn around and tell all of us to get lost...cuz it doesn't take a huge amount of research to see how BADLY we disrespect guru maharaj in our OWN gurdwaras EVERYDAY... tell me...in harmandir sahib complex...we have little rooms with guru maharaj in them just so people can have akhand paat done..most of them have noone in attendance except the paathi...what kind of respect is that??? just cuz there's no alcohol and meat...it makes it okay??? do you guys find it acceptable that our shahi shahan shah, dasaan patshahiaan di jaagdi jot, hazar nazar samrath jagat guru granth sahib is USED simple for ritual reading?? and not even placed in a DARBAR befitting a KING...i mean..hell...those rooms are soo small i wouldn't even use it as a personal bedroom.... i'm not defending anyone that takes guru sahib to any halls, hotels, etc...i very much believe that we have to respect guru sahib at all times, and the hukamnamma should be followed...but what i'm saying is..let's not forget the SPIRIT of the hukamnamma...and trust me...that spirit isnt followed in most gurdwaras, including our top most "panthic" institutions...
  6. i recently purchased the Palm TX it's really nice...pretty thin and small...has wi-fi...runs pretty fast...faster than the life drive.. i also bought a 2 gig sd card from costco..that cost 100 bucks to stick in the palm...that way...get a lot more memory...stuck on a whole bunch of kirtan on the card...so the palm doubles as an mp3 player... synching is really easy too... the reason i chose palm over windows based is cuz i use my palm for medical dictionaries, and other meds textbooks...and most of that software is all palm based..otherwise wouldn't know which is actually better...i chose the format that would allow me to get all the software i needed..
  7. just a question... is amandeep veerji from calgary going to be at the barsi samagam/doing kirtan?
  8. and heera is just waiting for jas to ask him to do the lavaaan...
  9. i personally don't recommend gel as it makes your beard really hard..and it gets dry and starts flaking...and if you're wearing a black shirt of a suit jacket...it'll show.. i would recomend alberto european maximum hold mousse...it works nicely...and doesn't make your beard hard...but easy to tie or keep in place...
  10. sikhi is a missionary faith... sikhs were sent all over india by guru sahib to set up manjis to preach the Truth... it's a different type of missionary faith...where noone is being told to convert to sikhi..but the principles and fundamentals of sikhi should be told to the world...and if people want to adopt them into their lives they can without converting...and if they feel to adopt sikhi fully then that option is also open...
  11. having known heera singh since the days before he kept his hair...the times i used to make fun of him during the phase when he started keeping his hair..he didn't have enough to make a joora yet...he then ended up skipping the patka and went to the keski..and boy that keski took years of formation before he settled with what he has now....i remember this kid took literally not more than a couple of months from never touching a tabla to knowing more taals than i knew existed (but then again..i never knew many taals to begin with..but impressive nonetheless).. watching him go through the thug phase which was quite entertaining...i think he neck got quite the workout holding up some of those chains he used to wear... the times i used to sign him out of school cuz i'd be done classes and we'd either go to his house and get aunti to make cha or go to the gurdwara, matha tek and have langar... i don't need to talk about heera's current state of being (for lack of better words)...as many are aware of his involvment wiht the youth and whatnot... but yeah...looking back...it's been a lot of fun knowing this guy... at one point i used to call him Mr. Expert...cuz you could be having the most random conversation with someone else..and heera would pipe in with his two cents...and for the most part..he actually knew what he was talking about...like anything..sports, politics, economics, world events.. he also knows his cycles really well...dude's a great cyclist...he can cycle for hours and hours on end...never seen such stamina in my life... anyhow... congrats heera singh...don't let this get to your head...or i'll arrange for you to get a smack...but do take this as encouragement from your brothers and sisters to continue doing the seva guru nanak has blessed you with piyaar, satkar, and nimrata....
  12. i always thought india had the largest muslim population in the world...no?.. maybe just more than pakistan but yeah...the muslims of malerkotla are very respectful of sikhs..as their ancestory goes back to the time of guru gobind singh ji... in fact..i remember the open letter that one of the descendents of the rulers of malerkotla sent out on the 300th vaisakhi...to all the sikh youth.. she called questioned them as to why they were cutting their hair and leaving the path of guru gobind singh ji...it was really touching...
  13. a truly amazing night... it was soo nice to see soo many gursikh brothers and sisters... the kirtan was heavenly...the shabads were beautiful...soul stirring... everyone seemed soo happy and excited to be there.... for me the gurbani line that hit me hard last night was sae sain sae sajanaa j guramukh milehi subhaae || They alone are relatives, and they alone are friends, who, as Gurmukh, join together in love. mostly because last night i believe i truly felt and experienced that... dhan guru nanak dhan guru nanak... waheguru ji ka khalsa waheguru ji ki fateh
  14. k...singh132 i agree with your last point...we should all use the test..what guru gobind singh ji do and think... in my heart...i don't believe guru ji would be upset in the slightest if one of his daughters wore a sari to her prom...granted..she was dressed with proper modesty....you might have missed it..but some people pointed out that you can get the blouses made today so that the belly is covered...so that would take care of that concern... you are right..about the panj piyaray having a distinct uniform when they do seva in amrit sanchar...but would that be accurate to say that is the bana you're supposed to wear...or is that more to make the Panj distinct when they do seva...so that everyone knows these are the panj piyaray... something to consider...but you are right that their uniform does consist of all that... lastly...bhai sahib randhir singh ji was entitled to his opinion and beliefs...i have immense respect for the guy...but i do reserve the right to hold my opinion...you saying that he believed it isn't enough to convince me...i mean...what would make him believe that? was it an experience with dasmesh pita? was it written in gurbani? dasam granth?..not trying to disrespect him...but i could just as easily show you gurmukhs who wore a shirt and pants... once again...i don't think it is our clothes that makes us the sikh... it's our actions, it's our daily rehat, its our character, our hearts... i mean...guru ji ordered us to keep our panj kakkar on us... if he felt it was important that i wear a chola at all times..he woulda ordered that as well...just the way i see things...
  15. i'd like to say..that the PANTH hasn't even figured out what bana is...collectively... every jatha, every sampardha has their own bana...some wear all white..some wear cholas, some wear all blue... so what bana means to one person could be different than what bana means to somoene else...and all are valid...cuz there's been no directive from akal takt..and all the quotes from gurbani where guru ji talks about clothes...guru ji doesn't forbid the clothing..or styling...he's talking about where our minds are concentrating...our gurus lived like kings..yet their humility was that of a beggar at the door of waheguru...it doesn't matter how fancy your clothes are..they say NOTHING about your avastha..and even if you wear a chola yet don't do anything a khalsa should be doing...it doesn't increase your avastha by wearing the chola... personally...for me my bana means having my panj kakkar on me at all times... if yours is different..that's cool... but making broad statements like " you should wear guru ji's bana"...isn't very directional...maybe people can outline what they believe to be bana when they tell someone to wear bana...
  16. tera i'm not following your logic behind the paap? so if i do something that makes someone have jealousy and envy...(which happens all the time when you're me..hehe) i get the paap? so if kirandeep wears a sari..and some pervert starts checking her out..she gets the paap? i don't follow your logic...maybe i misread what you said...but pls clarify...
  17. namastang... you could learn a thing or two or three from faujkaur...her reply was simple, straightforward, to the point, and best part...didn't aim to put anyone down... she got across the same message you probably wanted to..but did it in an eloquent way that people can accept and learn from... i honestly agree with you...if kirandeep wants to wear a sari..and she's got her panj kakkar on..and she can wear it in a way that will make her look classy, then by all means she should go with it...there is no restriction... however, you have the crappiest, probably the most negative tone on this site...you seem to bring your anti-certain jatha agenda into every thread..and frankly are contributing nothing positive to this site...i'm sorry..it might sound harsh and rude...but really this is someting you need to read... your versoin of sikhi works for you..that's great....tuhanu mubaraak.... if somoene wants to wear keski...ohna nu mubaraak if somone wants to read raagmala..ohna nu mubarak if someone doesn't want ot read raagmala..ohna nu mubarak (note..raagmala...just taken as an example here...don't make it part of the debate) you used to always preach about the DIVERSITY in sikhi..but in essence you have never caught on to the spirit of that concept...you've only used it to make yourself look all progressive and accepting..but you turn around and accuse other jathas, you have the balls to call groups of people "malech khalsa"...you say you listen and respect mahapurshes...and that is cool...but the greatest insult you can do to any true mahapursh is to claim that you follow them and then turn around and act in manner that would make them cringe....a true sevak only seeks to know about gursikhi, about gurbani, endeavors to involve himself in seva, simran, sangat... not in mudslinging matches.... and to take words of advice from our Guru... farida jay tu akal lateef, kalay lekh na likh aapnaraay giravan sio, sir neeva kar dekh... in ending....we all know you do a lot of research and have a lot of giyaaan you can share with the sangat...and it would be soo amazing..and a positive experience for all if you would do that with love in your heart, and tolerance for other viewpoints... ps...sorry kirandeep for kinda hijacking your thread...hope you have a great time at your prom...be safe, be smart, be a daughter of guru gobind singh...
  18. i think people like sikh missionary college and others have misinterpreted the teachings of our gurus... they claim that people who don't get married are not fulfilling hukam...they aren't true sikhs..this isn't true.. if we look at ithaas..there were many chardi kala gursikhs who weren't married and many that were... guru sahib didn't say you are nOT allowed to NOT get married... what they said was getting married doesn't make you less spiritual...this was in conversation with the ascetics who ran away from the world to meditate..guru sahib said..no...that it iS possible to reach high spiritual avastha even while living in family.that we shouldn't run away from it cuz we think it won't let us do simran, seva, sangat...and then as examples...guru sahib lived their lives as married householders so that noone would be mistaken into thinking that they cannot be married and be gursikhs at the same time.. HOWEVER.. they didn't say that you HAVE to get married...some peole just don't feel llike getting maried..but that doesn't mean they're running away..or becoming ascetic...they just feel other responsibilities in thier lives and fulfill those responsibilitiies...there is nothing worng with that and they are not incomplete... it IS WRONG if we are running away from marriage because we feel we can't be spritiaul..that is wrong..and guru sahib spoke out against it... BUT if someone just doesnt' feel like getting married..there is NOTHING wrong with that... hope that helps clear up the misconception..
  19. i'm not sure if wearing the gatra was/is mandatory..i wear the gatra because it is a conenient way of keeping the kirpan on your body at all times...it's a very practical thing. my sister wears her kirpan differently than me..because for some reason the gatra always slides off her shoulder so she just ties the gatra with kirpan in it around her waist and that seems to work for her. i also konw of some singhs who's kirpan sheaths are disigned to buckle on to their belts...so they wear them like that on their belts...seems to work for them...
  20. he also publicaly called sant jarnail singh and other mahaan shaheeds "thugs" i have emailed the organizers and was told i was intolerant...personally believe i am very tolerant and acceptimg...except..that i also believe there is a difference between tolerating and honouring somoen as a role model... i hope others will email them also.
  21. i would have agreed with you Singh veerji, except you didn't show up to the samagam in december  so no free stuff for SIngh
  22. i don't think CBC is to blame.. our community has ALWAYS just tried to brush aside its problems..by claiming..oh they aren't sikhs..they're punjabis..that's just a stupid way for us to get away with not cleaning up our house... hopefully our elders will see this movie and be ashamed of what we are portrayed as and finally start taking serious steps to clean up our gurdwara committees, spend money on education adn awareness, combating alcohol abuse, spousal abuse, and getting the youth back into gurdwaras... don't go pointing blame anywhere else...it's our own community...afterr....can we saw that it DIDN"T happen??? ..no!
