  1. i wouldn't beleive everything that's posted on a an RSS website. It seems suspicious that all those personalities would be RSS suppporters. I mean c'mon, Baba Thakur Singh??? BS. More likely the RSS sees this as an easy way to sow mistrust.
  2. There's a lot to do with Maharaj's kirpa. We don't know how much kamai they have from past janams, how much abhyiass they do. Often times there aren't always black and white rules, but guidelines and principles. Perhaps they are going to reach a khas avastha in this janam, but aren't reaady so are being protected? similar to how maharaj protects our kamai from past janams and doesn't release it until he feels we are ready. As for the celibate comment, Nowhere in bani does it say that bihangam marg is wrong - as the orignal punj pyare, Baba Thakur Singh ji bhindrenwale, Baba Jagjit Singh ji Harkhowalwale, Baba Nand Singh ji, Baba Isher Singh ji have all done so. You need to look at Bani in context - in the past there was a belief that one had to be celibate and if they got married they could not get mukti. this is a false belief. I believe Gristhi marg is encouraged, but not required.
  3. The cost of an ending to lineage for the building of Sri Hazoor Sahib was just that, a cost. It's construction was in no way forbidden. Raja Ranjit Singh was willing to pay this high cost, he paid it, it got built, end of story.
  4. In Sikh dharm we are allowed to live either bhramacharyi (all original punj pyare were bihangam (unmarried celibates)), or in gristh jeevan. interesting point, an avastha waley singh told me that shaheed singhs protect people for 3 months after they get amrit chuk. this is a trial period. if they keep rahit, the protection will extend beyond 3 months. if they turn away from rahit and think that they know too much, than they lose protection of shahid singhs.

    Prayers?

listen to giani thakkur singh ji's katha called ardass khalsa di. i think he mentions some other things wrt to expecting mothers. he also menstioned the 5 japji sahib thing said above. www.gurmatveechar.com under present day katha.
  6. drugs and sharaab are attractive to these things. get frid fo them. bring Guru Granth Sahbi ib saroop in ohome, do Akhaand paath, it will purify the negative energy. or get puran mahapursh to set charan in home. do not fear, if you stick to bani, rahit they cannot harm you. i recommend going to gurdewara regularly to help stayin chardi kala.
  7. The Vedas are the central scripture in Hindu Dharm. Guru Gobind Singh ji explicitly rejected the authority of the Vedas in Dasam Granth SAhib ji. If they mention that the first Guru did not, just tell them that in Guru Granth Sahib ji it is written that the same light exists in all the Gurus, they are all the saem, only the body is different. So Guru Nanak himself wrote that rejection in his tenth form.
  8. So when the jathedar summoned Maharaja Ranjit Singh to the Akaal Takth, was this done on his own or in accordance with the will of the punj pyare?
  9. Vote Ron Paul. He has a track record of keeping all his promises. Google him for more info.
  10. Although I'm aware that some people speak no punjabi at all, I would like to encourage those who do speak a litle punjabi or those who are beginning to learn to go in and try to listen to the katha. I had very poor Punjabi skills at first, over the course of a year listening to katha I found that my comprehension actually increased over time. I would just go in, try to sit still, and do simran. At the very least, you are getting kamai from doing simran in the Guru's Hazoorie.
  11. I'm from Canada. I spoke with him during his recent tour in BC. Gyani Takhur Singh is a kathekar who has done lots of sangat with numerous mahapurshes. He knows his stuff.
  12. I've spoken about chandi di vaar with Gyani Takhur Singh ji. He basically told me that if I was going to do it I should only do it in the morning. In katha, he mentioned that many cannot handle the shakti from this bani. Before doing this bani you should do X amount of paaths of Mool Mantur and then sava lakh paaths of Chachri Chund Tav Prasaad mantr AFTER the mool mantr. I think X=maybe sava lakh but I forgot what he said. ?Here is the full Chachri chund mantr for you: Chachri chund, tuv prasaad, Gobinday mukunday odhaaray upaaray harie(n) karie(n) nrinamay akaamay

  14. Sometimes the Guru tests his Sikhs. These are times when it becomes particularly hard to do Paath and simran. It feels like we're getting less out of it. This is just one of the downs on the path. Keep on going. Also, one more thing, I remember hearing in katha that if we think that it is us doing Paath or simran that we don't get full laha from it. I've heard that we should think that it is the Guru doing Paath or simran.
  15. I recommend you check out sikhnation.com. They offer free books. The books written by Sant Narunjan Singh are amazing. They are actually some of the best that I have ever read. Stages of Spiritual Growth by Hardial Singh is awesome as well. The person who wrote it goes in depth to explain it.
  16. I think that this is an appropriate place to post this warning in case someone tries to do more than just trick you. Metropolitan Police Issued This Newsletter October 2003 MUST BE READ Through a Rapist’s Eyes A group of rapists and date rapists in prison were interviewed on what they look for in a potential victim and here are some interesting facts: 1 The first thing men look for in a potential victim is hairstyle. They are most likely to go after a woman with a ponytail or other hairstyle that can be easily be grabbed. They are also likely to go after a woman with long hair. Woman with short hair are not common targets. 2 The second thing men look for is clothing. They will look for woman whose clothing is easy to remove quickly. Many of them carry scissors around to cut clothing. 3 They also look for women on their mobile phone, searching through their purse or doing other activities while walking, because they are off guard and can be easily overpowered. 4 The time of day men are most likely to attack and rape a woman is in the early morning, between 05.00 and 08.30 am. 5 The thing about these men is that they are looking to grab a woman quickly move her to a second location where they don’t have to worry about getting caught. 6 Only 2% said they carried weapons because rape carries a 3 – 5 year sentence, but rape with a weapon is 15 – 20 years. 7 If you put up any kind of a fight at all, they get discouraged because it only takes a minute or two for them to realise that going after you isn’t worth it because it will be time-consuming. 8 These men said they would not pick on women who have umbrellas, or other similar objects that can be used from a distance, in their hands. Keys are not a deterrent because you have to get really close to the attacker to use them as a weapon. So, the idea is to convince these guys you’re not worth it. 9 Several defence mechanisms he taught us are: if someone is following behind you on a street or in a garage or with you in a lift or stairwell, look them in the face and ask them a question, like “what time is it?” or make general small talk, “I can’t believe it is so cold out here, we’re in for a bad winter”. Now you’ve seen their face and could identify them in a line-up, you lose appeal as a target. 10 If someone is coming toward you, hold out your hands in front of you and yell “stop” or “STAY BACK”. Most of the rapists talked to said they’d leave a woman alone if she yelled or showed that she would not be afraid to fight back. Again, they are looking for an EASY target. FORWARD THIS TO EVERY WOMAN YOU KNOW! IT’S SIMPLE STUFF BUT IT COULD SAVE LIVES.
  17. http://www.unitedsikhs.org/ they should be able to help.

  20. sikhitothemax and allaboutsikhs.com have translations. I don't think that they're finished translating all of it.
  21. "The Sikhs" by Patwant Singh is an excellent and brief overview of Sikh history and thought. "Fighting for Faith and Freedom - Dialogues with Sikh Militants" by Cynthia Mahmood Kepley is a very non-bias account of the troubled times of the 80s and 90s. It also offers some interesting insights into violence.
  22. tie your beard if you need to. I don't see the harm in doing it for work purposes. I just hope you don't cut it b/c that's a kurhait meaning that it turns Gursikhs into apostates. Good luck.

  24. I don't know if this will work with the live recording, but to get around the annoying copyright protection (that won't even let you listen to legally obtained kirtan files!) just use realplayer.
  25. Baba Jarnail Singh ji was the one who declared Baba Takhur Singh ji sant. So how could Baba Takhur Singh ji be controlled by India  @ Think....
