Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa

Waheguru Ji Ke Fateh!!

I think there are many Sikhs who have the wrong idea about defense, especially the youth, including me. The Khalsa was created to defend the innocent and fight against tyranny. Guru Gobind Singh Ji himself said "It is just to raise the sword when all other means fail". Say if somone were to call you a terrorist, and cuss at you. Would it be ok to beat them or cuss at them? Or if someone killed your friend, would it be ok to take revenge on that person? I just think that the Khalsa raised the sword at that time because all other means did fail, it was defense and not revenge. So tell me if I were to go somewhere and someone cussed at me, should i fight them? cuss at them? ignore them? or what?

Waheguru Ji Ke Fateh!

My personally take on your questions is ....If you arent sure about scriptures and theirs always historical events to rely upon. How did our Guru's, hero's and forefathers deal with attacks on them, did they let them go by or did they avenge them.

I think you'll find verbal abuses were nothing but physically attacks resulted in 8/10 times Sikh's of the past avenging major injustices and others wrongs that was done to them. I.e the Attacks on Darbar Sahib are never forgotten or forgiven and always avenged.

So say if someone was to abused you racially, religiously or personally you could retaliate either by words or action. It would be up to the individual to assess the consequences of their actions. Cos the law of karma applies when you do anything in life. But as humans we all have a limit / breaking point so no one can blame anyone if they lose it once in a while when/if provoked.

I guess it is ok to avenge an injustice, but they should only go after the person who did it, and never kill the innocent person. If somone cussed at me, I as a GurSikh, could never imagine using angry words at them , but I could never ignore them. I guess I would approach them with strength, confidence, and logic. Remember words cant take away your life.

Thanks Veer your post really helped

Dear Veer UnitedSingh Ji

waheguru ji ka khalsa waheguru ji ki fateh!

your post is a very relevant post.

In this Kaliyug tolerance and sharafat are considered to be the ornaments of the weak.

Forgiveness is a great virtue.Forgive someone who is asking forgiveness but most of us forgive people or try to forgive in our mind because we cant do anything.

Well I very strongly believe that a sikh has full right to use his tongue and his sword against an attack but THE KEY is and I feel that is very very important that during the process a sikh should not get ANGRY OR EMOTIONAL because if you do so you will loose and your enemy will win.

In order to control being emotional and angry during defensive fight one has to do lots of naam simran because otherwise a normal wordly person is bound to be afflicted by anger and emotion.

One has to subsitute emotion and anger into MOMEMTUM and COURAGE and in the end if you are able to get the better of your opponent a sikh MUST show mercy too.

I am the SaInT the SolDieR that walks in PeaCE, I am the HUmblE dust of your feet, But dont think my SpIrITuaLiTy makes me WEaK, The HeAvEnS will ROAR if my sword were to SPeAk!!

My problem is if somebody offends me or something!...i wont stand for it....as i never have done in the past before...

.... i also get very angry quick...where i then swear and swear at them... and then it takes me sooo long to stop...and then it just annoys me throughout most of the day!....which then gets me stressed out cus ive swore soo much!...

....the thing is i find it so hard to control myself / my krodh!...which then leads me to flip at somebody ie swearing at them! and then i dont stop that easily either:S

(im not adressin any1 here on this forum, jus wat i hav sed 2 thers)

u say ur a soulja? wat is a soulja? and the souljas diference 2 the barbarian? what has the soulja got, that the barbarian hasnt?

the soulja has honour, the barbarian hasnt, instead it is his shame and anger drive him to destroy.

when someone insults the soulja, he stays calm, he says naam, and asks akaal 2 4give the individual. if the person then attaks the soulja, the soulja will jst dodge and blok, maybe counter, but not to do too much damage.

the soulja then walks away with honour and dignity

the barbarian however, will draw his shastar and painfully n slowly kill the person

do u see wat im sayin?

    • Umm, that's totally irrational, bro. There are plenty of prakash-dara Singhs in Punjab (less than we'd like, but still plenty). No one cares that you are sabat soorat. It isn't 1986. You can walk around in chola, kurta-pajama, or jeans. Whatever. If you want the look @dallysingh101 is referring to, just go into a cheap clothing shop (not a Western-style mall) and buy some shirts for 250 rupees or a track suit for 2000 rupees. You'll get the cheap stuff made in some sweatshop in Bombay.
    • The Mind is Jyot Saroop (Waheguru), but the mind is under the influence of five evils… Through Naam Simran( Rememberance), the mind will begin to detach from evil, and get back to its original form ( MANN TU JYOT SAROOP HEH)… Until the mind breaks free from the five evils, one will go through the cycle of paap and punn….which leads to Karma… Naam Simran destroys past karma, and prevents new karma coming into fruition… I did this, I did that… This non realisation of the Jyot Saroop gives rise to paap and Punn, which in turn gives birth to suffering and misery…
    • I agree we're not born with sin like the Christians think. Also I agree we have effects of karma. But Gurbani does state that the body contains both sin and charity (goodness): ਕਾਇਆ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਪਾਪੁ ਪੁੰਨੁ ਦੁਇ ਭਾਈ ॥ Within the body are the two brothers sin and virtue. p126 Actually, we do need to be saved. Gurbani calls this "udhaar" (uplift). Without Satguru, souls are liable to spiritual death: ਜਿਨਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨ ਭੇਟਿਓ ਸੇ ਭਾਗਹੀਣ ਵਸਿ ਕਾਲ ॥ p40 Those who have not met Satguru Purakh are unfortunate and liable to death. So, yeah, we do need to be saved, and Guru ji does the saving. The reason Satguru is the one to save is because God has given Satguru the "key" (kunji): ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਹਥਿ ਕੁੰਜੀ ਹੋਰਤੁ ਦਰੁ ਖੁਲੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੭॥ In the True Guru's hand is the key. None else can open the door. By perfect good fortune the Guru is met. p124
    • That's unfortunate to hear. Could you give any more information? Who was this "baba"? He just disappeared with people's money? Obviously, you should donate your money to known institutions or poor people that you can verify the need of through friends and family in Punjab.
    • Sangat ji,  I know a family who went Sevewal to do seva sometimes end of 2019. They returned last year in great dismay and heart broken.  To repent for their mistakes they approached panj pyaare. The Panj gave them their punishment / order to how t make it up which, with Kirpa, they fulfilled.  They were listening to a fake Baba who, in the end, took all the "Donations " and fled sometime over a year ago. For nearly 4 years this family (who are great Gursikhs once u get to know them) wasted time and effort for this fake Baba. NOT ONLY this one fam. But many, many did worldwide and they took their fam to do seva, in village Sevewal, city Jaitho in Punjab. In the end many families lost money in thousands being behind this Baba. The family, on return, had to get in touch with all the participants and told them to stop.  I am stating this here to create awareness and we need to learn from whom we follow and believe. It's no easy but if we follow the 3 S (Sangat, Simran and Seva) we will be shown the light. As I am writing this the family in question have been doing the same since 2008 onwards and they fell for this Baba... it is unbelievable and shocking.  This am writing in a nutshell as am at work on my break so not lengthy but it deserves a great length.  Especially the family in question, who shed light on youngsters about Sikhi 20 plus years!!
