Mehta Chowk, 20 September,

The Sant Samaj, headed by Baba Sarbjot Singh Bedi, Damdami Taksal Jatha Bhindran, led by Baba Harnam Singh Ji Khalsa Dhumma, and representatives of about 150 Panthic organisations, including two former Jathedars of Sri Akal Takht Sahib, today rejected the Nanakshahi Calendar approved by both SGPC and Sri Akal Takht Sahib's Jathedar.

The resolution rejecting the Nanakshahi Calendar has come as a big setback for the SGPC and Sri Akal Takht Sahib even as two outside Takhts, including Hazoor Sahib and Patna Sahib, have already been observing and celebrating Sikh gurpurbs as per the traditional Bikrami calendar. The attempt to make the Nanaksahi Calendar — the first Sikh calendar stand severely suffered.

The Sikh conclave, held at the Damdami Taksal here, rejected the proposed move of the SGPC to allow women to participate in the ‘Amrit Sanchar’ ceremonies, seva of carrying ‘Palki” from Akal Takht to Harmander Sahib and vice versa, allowing baptised Sikh women to perform kirtan and the cleaning of sanctum sanctorum of Sri Harmander Sahib.

The Sikh conclave decided to launch ‘chetna march’ from tomorrow with a view to ‘restoring’ the age old Sikh Maryada in Sri Harmander Sahib and Sri Akal Takht Sahib. The district-wise jathas would be reaching Sri Akal Takht Sahib regularly for 21 days.

noooooooooooooo

the whole issue about the Nanakshahi Claendar is that....

Damdami Taksal will be 110% to make a Sikh Calendar, but that Sikh Calendar HAS TO BE ACCEPTED by ALL Sikh Panthic Jathebandi's and well also have all those Jathebandi's views, but when this Nanakshahi Calandar was created it was made by one person.

No Jathebandi was asked their views and this calandar was issued, but if we make these type of sudden changes ie. making a Gurpurb from the 4th to the 23rd, seems abit odd!

To which was this calandar was made we'd have to change everything for dates, including, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday!!

Somvaar, Mangalvaar, Bhudhvaar, Veervar, Shukarvaar, Shnicharvaar, Aithvaar.

Sunday = Sun Day

Aith = Sun, Vaar = day

Monday = Moon Day

Som = Moon, Vaar = day

so lets change those aswell!!

No point debating on this about Taksal, Phone Metha Chownk Damdami Taksal and ask for Baba Harnaam Singh for a Debate on this.

Sat Sri Akal:

That Reet of considering your husband as God is what the Manu Simriti states...it is not in line with what Gurbani states. Again, the Asa Di Vaar is sung in Gurudwaras on a daily basis...perhaps these Gurmukhs could explain why Guru Sahib was willing to give women an equal status but somehow, they think otherwise.

Q1 Why are DDT against Bibiaan in Panj?

In 1699, Guroo Saahib asked for A head of A SIKH, not of a Man nor of a Woman, simply a Guroo Kaa Sikh. It is a common FACT only men came forward. Guroo Saahib is all-knowing and all-pervading. THEY Chose who were to come forward before hand. If we believe Guroo Saahib is the King of Kings then we can surely believe that they are Antarjaamee and have the power to bring forward whoever they want. For whatever reason, Guroo Saahib chose 5 SINGHS. If Guroo Maahaaraaj wanted, they could have chosen 5 Bibian, or 3 Singhs 2 Bibian etc etc.

When there is an Amrit Sanchaar nowadays, it is imperative that we keep the maryada the same. By changing it we are saying we are better than Maahaaraaj. Many Gursikhs say that Sikhee is about equality and that if a Singh can do something then a Bibi can too, thats true, but sometimes there are certain things that are put in place for a reason. Instead of trying to find a way out and try to justify things we should learn to humbly accept and acknowledge that Guroo Saahib has stated something so we should obey that.

Q2 Why are DDT against Naanakshaahee Calendar?

The NaanakShaahee Calendar is there to make life somewhat 'easier' for the SGPC. They claim that if we have one calendar then there will be no confusion, however, if someone was to celebrate YOUR birthday 2 weeks late or 1 week early how would you feel? Now think about OUR Guroo Saahib, the one we hold the most respect for. Is it not Our Duty as so-called "GUROO KAA SIKHS" to uphold the Maryada that Our Guroo Saahibs used?? If the Bikramee Calendar was used by Guroo Maahaaraaj then why is it not good enough for us?? Are we more superior than our King of Kings? The Naanakshaahee calendar dates are "approximate" they are NOT the exact dates that events took place in our History.

Events like Guroo Naanak Daev Jee's Janam Dihaaraa would be commercialised (which they already are becoming) and we would lose the true meaning of the day Guroo Saahib came to this world in order to save us. Similar to that of Christmas, Jesus Christ was not born on December 25th, he was infact born in September! Now look at what Christmas means to Goray...do we want that to happen with Maahaaraaj's Gurpurabhs? - Again we should learn to be humble!

Q3 Why are DDT against Bibiaan doing Saevaa at Harimandar Saahib?

Yet again it goes back to Maryada, It has been the norm that at Sree Harimandar Saahib a selected few Singhs would do the saevaa of cleaning the walls and floor with milk. That has happened from the very beginning, Guroo Saahib started this tradition, who are we to stop it from happening?? - YET AGAIN, it comes down to learning to be Humble and accepting that Guroo Saahib Knows Best!

These are just A FEW of the questions that have been asked in earlier posts, I havent the time to answer all, but i hope that we can see that DDT are not against every decision the "PANTH" or should i say "SGPC" makes, but they simply believe that the traditional Maryada set by Guroo Maahaaraaj should be adhered to.

Let me make it clear, I DO NOT Support either Harnaam Singh Dhumma or Raam Singh, and i disagree with what they have both done are continuing to do. Maybe one day they too will become humble enough to realise their mistakes and seek refuge in the court of the One True Lord, Satguroo Saahib Sree Guroo Granth Saahib Jee Maahaaraaj.

Please forgive my shortcomings, I know nothing, I just simply profess that I know the answers when i clearly dont.

Please Forgive this Maahaa Moorakh!

Taksali singh if bibia cannot be in panj because a maryada has been upholded for so long.... then why are bibia givin amrit if they cant be in panj pyarai and distribute it.... 5 singhs were the first and only people who took amrit first.... then it should only be singhs who take amrit... it that what you are trying to say???

    • I agree we're not born with sin like the Christians think. Also I agree we have effects of karma. But Gurbani does state that the body contains both sin and charity (goodness): ਕਾਇਆ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਪਾਪੁ ਪੁੰਨੁ ਦੁਇ ਭਾਈ ॥ Within the body are the two brothers sin and virtue. p126 Actually, we do need to be saved. Gurbani calls this "udhaar" (uplift). Without Satguru, souls are liable to spiritual death: ਜਿਨਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨ ਭੇਟਿਓ ਸੇ ਭਾਗਹੀਣ ਵਸਿ ਕਾਲ ॥ p40 Those who have not met Satguru Purakh are unfortunate and liable to death. So, yeah, we do need to be saved, and Guru ji does the saving. The reason Satguru is the one to save is because God has given Satguru the "key" (kunji): ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਹਥਿ ਕੁੰਜੀ ਹੋਰਤੁ ਦਰੁ ਖੁਲੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੭॥ In the True Guru's hand is the key. None else can open the door. By perfect good fortune the Guru is met. p124
    • That's unfortunate to hear. Could you give any more information? Who was this "baba"? He just disappeared with people's money? Obviously, you should donate your money to known institutions or poor people that you can verify the need of through friends and family in Punjab.
    • Sangat ji,  I know a family who went Sevewal to do seva sometimes end of 2019. They returned last year in great dismay and heart broken.  To repent for their mistakes they approached panj pyaare. The Panj gave them their punishment / order to how t make it up which, with Kirpa, they fulfilled.  They were listening to a fake Baba who, in the end, took all the "Donations " and fled sometime over a year ago. For nearly 4 years this family (who are great Gursikhs once u get to know them) wasted time and effort for this fake Baba. NOT ONLY this one fam. But many, many did worldwide and they took their fam to do seva, in village Sevewal, city Jaitho in Punjab. In the end many families lost money in thousands being behind this Baba. The family, on return, had to get in touch with all the participants and told them to stop.  I am stating this here to create awareness and we need to learn from whom we follow and believe. It's no easy but if we follow the 3 S (Sangat, Simran and Seva) we will be shown the light. As I am writing this the family in question have been doing the same since 2008 onwards and they fell for this Baba... it is unbelievable and shocking.  This am writing in a nutshell as am at work on my break so not lengthy but it deserves a great length.  Especially the family in question, who shed light on youngsters about Sikhi 20 plus years!!
    • Giani Kulwant Singh Jawaddi Kalan uses simple Punjabi.
    • Leaving aside Guru ji, the general question of taking afeem (opium) in limited quantities for war/medical wounds is simply unproblematic. When you go to the hospital, they give you morphine. What do you think morphine is? It's an opiate. Even codeine (cough syrup) is an opiate! Ever had a cough? Granted, it is against Gurmat to take opium or other drugs for the fun of it.
