Kinda similar to Spanish, which has the familiar and the respectful way of stating words. Aap and Tusi are more formalized and respectful words to be used for those whom you do not know. Tu is the familiar, which would be used towards someone who is close to you and you know quite well.

ah yes...

so im taking it that the Guru jis used "tuu" because they were very close to God. thats what you meant right?
