INSTEAD of making Khalsa Schools, talk to the local council about the way they teach Sikhi in Religious Studies lesson.

I heard that in a year, Islam is given up to about 6 weeks, Christianity the same, Hinduism the about 4 and Sikhism about 2 LESSONS.

And even there; They teach that only 2 K's are mandatory - Kesh and Kara..

Time to sort my city's Education Officier out!! lol

"Khalsa schools are for all cultures, not just indian - let's get that out of the way."

Ummm, yeah, but in general Sikhs are Indian.

And I think the religious studies idea is crap... When my friend took it (in a very good public school, I should point out), he was asked to teach the class about Sikhism... becasue the teacher didn't even know! Having a Sikh school would be an excellent way for new generations to learn about Sikhism. Who here honestly believes the way things are working right now are okay??? That's crap! More and more "sikhs" are cutting their hair every day, going out and getting drunk, etc. Society the way it's built right now isn't working out for Sikhs, and we need to do something to help it. Like the example I gave before, of Baru Sahib, look at the great Sikh youth coming out of that school. Those kids are more likely to stay in tune with Sikhism than most of the kids that are raised "westernized".

THEN THE kHALSA WHICH SHOULD BE CALLED SIKH SCHOOL{ NOT ALL ARE KHALSA} should go up to the 12th grade and then there should be a sikh college.

Young Sikhs get peer pressure anyway, in whatever grade or even years after school. Its up to them to be a strong Sikh. If maya looks beautiful in their eyes then that is the will of God.

Nuff said

not nuff said, why don't you add something helpfull to the discussion than trying to just waste server space. That post was useless.

I was saying Sikhs get peer presure anyway...........

There should also be a Sikh College.......................

If that was a waste of space then you are a waste of skin.

VJKK VJKF!

I GREW IN A MULTRICULTRAL SCHOOL WITH MANY RELGIONS, AND I CHILLED WITH MANY GOREH KALEH AND OTHER FAITHS AND THEY HAVE ASKED WHY DO WE KEEP TURBAN AND STUFF ETC...... WHEN THEY LISTEN TO THIS THEY GET INTRUIGUED MAN, BUT SAY IF IT WAS ONLY ALL SIKHS IN THAT SCHOOL, MOST SIKHS WOULD KNOW ANYWAY AND WOULDNT ASK, AND THEY WOULDNT MAKE FRIENDS WITH OTHER CULTURES OR RELGIONS, WHICH LOOKS LIKE WE ARE MOVING AWAY FROM SOCIETY, REMEMBER IT IS LACK OF EDUCATION THAT CAUSES WAR, IF MORE PEOPLE WERE EDUCATED THEN LESS FIGHTING WOULD HAPPEN AND RACIAL ATTACK.

SORRY IF I HAVE OFFENDED ANYONE

I dont like segerated schools based on religion since you dont get the true feel about the people in todays society and it'll probably rear more crazy khalistani wannabes although i think the people in the school would be close since they would come from the same background.

People have been getting bad friends, thats one reason why some youths have gone astray. Your only forced to get friends like this. So kids wont get made fun of, they start to get bad influencing friends and start becomimg trouble makers so they look cool to the rest of their class or school.

If there wer all Sikhs those kids would not appeal to the school or the other kids parents. They dont want a Sikh school so they cant act up, and do what all the lost western people do.Which is by their own choice. Do two wrongs make a right? {If they are doing bad things or drugs means you can also}

maybe up until a certain age, i would agree. give kids the starting point in infants and early juniors...

but you take it all the way up until high school graduation... and i dont think itll do the kids any favour. In the UK, kids have to go to school until they finish GCSE's. After that, they can go into the wide world of work... what will become of them then?! Will they have to join "all-Sikh" companies? I havent come accross one yet... none that are successful anyway. When they go to work into offices, law courts etc, they will have to get along with people from other cultures, faiths and backgrounds. And if you havent prepared them for that in the crucial stages of their developments (childhood to teenage years) then they will not know properly how to handle the sudden shock.

Schools mainly provide you with good interpersonal skills and help you develop your character and personality. They try to help you distinguish between right and wrong in the wide world. Very importantly, they encourage the multicultural environment with tolerance and understanding, which i think Khalsa Schools take away. They can teach it all they want to students, but they need to experience it to properly grasp the idea.

Forgive my mistakes.

I think Khalsa Schools are not a bad idea as long as the reputation and the education of the School are kept at high standards.

I mean everyone knows that some Commities nowaday's collect around about 1/2 million each year in the name of Gurdwara Sahib and Seva...and for that they get an extra 32% from the council! ...where does this money all go...the heads get some top range mercedes and bmw's and out of nowhere he has 5 house's he owns (mentioning no names)...

Why dont they spend that money on making a Khalsa School outside town in about 5/6 acres, and hire high quality teachers and keep the school to a high quality and teach the students some good dissiplain, so people from other faiths want to join the school because it's the biggest and the best one around...

plus, openning Khalsa Schools means that children can be taught Sikhi by the age of 5 and taught whats good and whats not.

but as Golee Maro and Others mentioned, there are bad sides to it as well such as the lack of Socialising etc.

yeah, teach the kids sikhi at a young age, as well as get intruduced to other religions so that they know how to deal with people of those faiths - then they wont get ignorant or hurt anyone elses feelings. The whole point si that to prepare them for a life as a sikh but at the same time to prepare the students for the world ahead.

    • Umm, that's totally irrational, bro. There are plenty of prakash-dara Singhs in Punjab (less than we'd like, but still plenty). No one cares that you are sabat soorat. It isn't 1986. You can walk around in chola, kurta-pajama, or jeans. Whatever. If you want the look @dallysingh101 is referring to, just go into a cheap clothing shop (not a Western-style mall) and buy some shirts for 250 rupees or a track suit for 2000 rupees. You'll get the cheap stuff made in some sweatshop in Bombay.
    • The Mind is Jyot Saroop (Waheguru), but the mind is under the influence of five evils… Through Naam Simran( Rememberance), the mind will begin to detach from evil, and get back to its original form ( MANN TU JYOT SAROOP HEH)… Until the mind breaks free from the five evils, one will go through the cycle of paap and punn….which leads to Karma… Naam Simran destroys past karma, and prevents new karma coming into fruition… I did this, I did that… This non realisation of the Jyot Saroop gives rise to paap and Punn, which in turn gives birth to suffering and misery…
    • I agree we're not born with sin like the Christians think. Also I agree we have effects of karma. But Gurbani does state that the body contains both sin and charity (goodness): ਕਾਇਆ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਪਾਪੁ ਪੁੰਨੁ ਦੁਇ ਭਾਈ ॥ Within the body are the two brothers sin and virtue. p126 Actually, we do need to be saved. Gurbani calls this "udhaar" (uplift). Without Satguru, souls are liable to spiritual death: ਜਿਨਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨ ਭੇਟਿਓ ਸੇ ਭਾਗਹੀਣ ਵਸਿ ਕਾਲ ॥ p40 Those who have not met Satguru Purakh are unfortunate and liable to death. So, yeah, we do need to be saved, and Guru ji does the saving. The reason Satguru is the one to save is because God has given Satguru the "key" (kunji): ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਹਥਿ ਕੁੰਜੀ ਹੋਰਤੁ ਦਰੁ ਖੁਲੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੭॥ In the True Guru's hand is the key. None else can open the door. By perfect good fortune the Guru is met. p124
    • That's unfortunate to hear. Could you give any more information? Who was this "baba"? He just disappeared with people's money? Obviously, you should donate your money to known institutions or poor people that you can verify the need of through friends and family in Punjab.
    • Sangat ji,  I know a family who went Sevewal to do seva sometimes end of 2019. They returned last year in great dismay and heart broken.  To repent for their mistakes they approached panj pyaare. The Panj gave them their punishment / order to how t make it up which, with Kirpa, they fulfilled.  They were listening to a fake Baba who, in the end, took all the "Donations " and fled sometime over a year ago. For nearly 4 years this family (who are great Gursikhs once u get to know them) wasted time and effort for this fake Baba. NOT ONLY this one fam. But many, many did worldwide and they took their fam to do seva, in village Sevewal, city Jaitho in Punjab. In the end many families lost money in thousands being behind this Baba. The family, on return, had to get in touch with all the participants and told them to stop.  I am stating this here to create awareness and we need to learn from whom we follow and believe. It's no easy but if we follow the 3 S (Sangat, Simran and Seva) we will be shown the light. As I am writing this the family in question have been doing the same since 2008 onwards and they fell for this Baba... it is unbelievable and shocking.  This am writing in a nutshell as am at work on my break so not lengthy but it deserves a great length.  Especially the family in question, who shed light on youngsters about Sikhi 20 plus years!!
