I think Manmoham Singh has done a fair bit for India as a country, establishing it across the world as an up and coming power. In terms of the Sikh community, he was the first p.m to apologise for the genocide of 1984 in India against the Sikhs. He has provided the compensation for victims and victims families aswell as employment. He has gained the Sikhs a lot of respect in main stream politics and at international level. Because of his economic background he sees everything in terms of economics. He has an untainted reputation in terms of corruption, which is rare in India since independence from the British. He is a different type of Sikh than the general misconception of ' loud, slogan shouting, act first, think later, hotheads, terrorists etc' that many Indians have of us and its nice to see such a mild mannered interlectual Sikh getting coverage. I think he is probably one of the finest prime ministers India have ever had.

On the down side people such as Jagdesh Tytler and Sajjan Kumar are still walking around scott free for helping to butcher in cold blood thousands of our co religionists. Many of our fellow Sikhs are still languishing in jails. Much has been done but much more has yet to be done. In terms of investment he has, many feel, neglected Punjab slightly. Maybe due to the fact that Sonia and co. still hold much sway in the congress party.

Indira Gandhi attacked our holiest shrine Darbar Sahib and such is our Guru that when alomst twenty years later her daughter in law, Sonia Gandhi was to be given the 'throne' of India such was the public feeling that she could not sit on it and had to then let it be occupied by a SARDAR. Manmohan Singh was used to administer a type of justice to the Gandhi family. On the day Indira Gandhi gave the orders to launch the attack, in her wildest dreams she could not have believed that one day one of her family would have to make a SARDAR primeminister of India. The Guru works in mysterious ways!

There was two issues I think one was the threat from Sikhs because of bluestar and the other from Hindu's because she was Italian. She had already visited Harimandir Sahib and she probably feared political aggitations from both Sikhs and hindu's aswell as the danger to her life. In these eventualities her reign could of been short, destable or life threatening. Either way she still had to step down.

We were respected way before for the bravery against the mughals, bravery aganst the britsih, baravey against teh nazis, bravery of saraghari fort, etc. The only time we were branded as terrorists was by India itself. Semms convenint to ahve India tarnish our image and then take the credit for saving it.

Yeah, this is probably as good as it gets in terms of PMs in India. From a sikh perspective, isn't squat.

Twenty years have passed and all the Indian govt. could pull outta their <admin-profanity filter activated> was a PM who happened to be a Sikh, i guess that makes up for the slavery we've been under for nearly sixty years, and the thousands about thousands of ruthless killings, rapes and torture of our sikh brothers and sisters.

By giving up PM's Seat she gave Indian public image of her sacrificing nature and as a result gave bad publicity to BJP as they were going crazy talking about her being a foreigner.

even the likes of khushwant su are better tahn manmohan su atleast khushwant gave back the award that he got from the goverment , in protest of the attack on Harmandir Sahib even amrandir singh resigned from the congress after june 84 but manmohan didn even do that! what a sellout! he sets a new record of selling out!
