Too Much Emphasis On The "holy Book"

True it's not to be treated like the Bible and Koran . Papi i've seen people with my own eyes giving SGGS food. Not for langar bhog either. - Saying SGGS EATS, it's manmat. in the tiems of the Guru's was SGGS fed?
i agree, thast manmat, i've yet to see that  guru sahib doesn't "need" anything but love

govi(n)dh bhaao bhagath dhaa bhukhaa ||a||

The Lord needs loving devotion and nothing else.

This is the only thing i agree with when people of other faiths approach me. They say why do Sikhs treat it like an idol, are you not supposed to be worshippers of God alone? I say yes, but hindumat has sadly made it's way into Sikhi hence why Sikhi is in decline. If we revert back to the tiems of the Gurus we'll be on track. - Doing Aarti with thaal (as in Mandirs) is forbidden. Giving SGGS food is forbidden.

Brother i have so much satkaar for Shri Guru Grnath Sahib - But seeing it treated like a human, is wrong. Our only fous is to be joined with Akal Purakh - Not into idolatry

Nahin veera - You have to be hoest what i said above is taking it to far. Yes we should bow and treat it with such satkaar. but giving food and water is BIPRAN MAT. sach ja jhoot??
who said we feed guru granth sahib. we ask guruji to parvaan the food (in a sense bless it) so it can be given to sangat.

btw, my mom told me this.

someone went upto baba isher singh jee, nanaksar waley and asked the very same question. how can a book eat? baba ji said. ok this is what we'll do. i'll make parshada for guruji, we'll weigh it as is.

i'll do ardaas for parvaangi of parshada. and do kirpan bhet. afterwards we'll weigh it again. if the weight remains the same you can chop off my tongue and if the weight has gone down then i'll chop your tongue off. the person agreed. so it was done and behold the thaal weighed less after kirpa bheta.

just something to keep in mind. there is a reason why guruji is given so much respect. its our guru. not some book. (like quran, bible etc)

so did the tongue get chopped off? ohmy.gif

respected sangat ji

we have clear verdict from the last living master, my beloved father, tenth nanak SHRI GURU GOBIND SINGH JI that "GURU MANEO GRANTH"

even otherwise, SHRI GURU ARJAN DEV JI referred "POTHI PARMESHAR KA THAAN"

for the question, treating SHRI GURU GRANTH SAHIB JI as an idol, is just an influence from hinduism

my personal experience is whenever i bowed with my questions infront of SHRI GURU GRANTH SAHIB JI, got every answer through the hukamnama, followed and got the desired every time.

thy is not an idol, but a true master with all specialisations in every aspect of life both human and eternal.

one can feel it when one reaches to the avastha of TOTAL SURRENDER

jab hum hote tab to nahi || ab to hae mae naahi ||

bhul chook maaf

Everyone forgets the second line of the dohra:

jo prabh ko mile boj he, khoj shabad mein leh,

Once you know the power of a shabad from SGGS, then you will automatically understand the value of the saroop.

if you have no understanding of the shabad then durmat will kill you and the saroop will always look like a book. who out of the members on this thread involve themselves in the campaign?? You lot are confused over the saroop of Guruji?? What Sikhi are you teaching others??

I'm not questioning the pwoer of the Shabad, Lord i know the power!

In olden times, the SGGS was presnt, but it was not treated in the same way it's treated now! - Learn from it, why else do you think Sikhi is in decline? We revert back to BIPRAN KI REET as Guru said, and what is the outcome?

Bow before hte Shabad Guru, but do not say it's a human being, as this is not what Sikhi of Guru Nanak ji taught us. GOD is our goal, via the SGGS. Do not feed/water the SGGS. This is worse than hindus in their Mandirs!

It is very refreshing to have a discussion on this topic.

It is good to see we as Sikhs trying to find the true essence of Guru.

To me Guru does not mean a human being. A Guru can take the form of a book because the meaing of Guru is teacher - who leads from darkness to light (GU means darkness and RU means light)

Guru Gobind Singh Ji said that we should treat the Granth as the Guru.

I do not believe (correct me if wrong), that he said we should treat the Granth as a human.

Respect the Granth as a Guru, a spiritual Guru, do not treat it as a human being, by offering it food and water etc.

Otherwise we are going against the very teachings of all our Guru's, who criticised

Hindus for treating stone idols as humans.

We mock the Hindus for washing and even marrying their statues to each other.

We must grasp the essence of the teachings of the Guru Granth Sahib ji and be one with God.

That does not mean we should place the fundamental essence of Sikhi in mandirs and clubs etc.

The Guru Granth Sahib Ji is Sikhi and Sikhi is the Guru Granth Sahib Ji, so take care of it.

Without the Guru Granth Sahib we would have drifted into idol worship in mandirs by now.
