our gurus already and continue to give us guidance for us to live in the world we live in today...materialistic things have always been changing, are changing and will continue to change...all that is deesanhaar is binsanhaar...

however, naam and the basic divine laws of nature will always be the same...

guru nanak in his ten bodies and now in guru granth sahib ji teaches us to do simran, seva, and sadh sangat...

tells us to earn an honest living, share what we have and live in remembrance of the lord...

advice that is priceless and timelesss....so no need to wonder what they would say..

Don't get me wrong I agree with everything you've said above. I'm saying the panth could be in a better position in this modern day and age. What you are talking about is piri or spiritual matters. I'm just talking about the other "miri" side. Since the time of our chevin badshah we have been told to keep an eye on both.

On one hand we say Guru is knower of all, on other hand we say Guru ji will wonder.

I think our concept of guru is messed up BIG time.

THis simply conveys how well we understand our Guru.

I'm not saying Guruji will wonder. The only wondering going on here is by me. I'm sure Guru ji would've had advice for us in terms of politics and media and stuff. I mean what would Guru ji say about the fact Sikhs get mistaken for Muslims when we are supposed to be niaara? I'm sure he would give us a plan. He was a top strategist remember! Plus don't forget he had one of the best educations his time could offer. That much is fact.

Gurfateh ji,

Kalgidhar Patshahji would feel hurt and pained to see his teachings going a waste.. his sacrifices being wasted.. :'(

Gurfateh ji,

It was not implied that others are bad or such and such is bad..

This was about the changing values of sikhi.. i mean .. wearing khandas and yet not adhering to values of SIKHI..

Bhul chuk maaf karni ji!

Guru Gobind Singh Sahib Ji Maharaj, the creator of the Khalsa regarded himself as a servant of the Khalsa. The Khalsa is given a position equal to that of the Guru. The Guru consists of two parts; the body and the Name. The Guru nominated the Khalsa, as his body and Guru Granth Sahib Ji as the embodiment the Name. That is why we use the title of Guru-Khalsa.

So in essence Guru Ji is here and together we are watching the chronicles taking place around us, watching the “jagat tamasha”!!!

Main hoon param purakh ko dasa dekhan aayo jagat tamasha

I am a servant of the Supreme Being;

and have come to behold the wonderful drama of life.

(Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji Maharaj)

The “antarjami” knows what we see and what we are hurt or damaged by, maybe in order to build our jeevans we need to see and experience the moral corruption and the beadbia out there. But do we, who maintain to be Sikhs really believe our Guru is “ang sang” or with us 24/7? Do we truly believe that we are already facing our Guru everyday, every moment of our lives?

suntun dukh paai tai dukhi sukh paai sadhun kai sukhi aik aik ki pir pchanain ghat ghat kai put put ki janai. (12)

He is pained, when His saints are pained; and feels happiness when they are happy. He understands what pains each of the hearts of the creatures and their innermost workings. (12)

(Sri Benti Chaupai Sahib)

    • I agree we're not born with sin like the Christians think. Also I agree we have effects of karma. But Gurbani does state that the body contains both sin and charity (goodness): ਕਾਇਆ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਪਾਪੁ ਪੁੰਨੁ ਦੁਇ ਭਾਈ ॥ Within the body are the two brothers sin and virtue. p126 Actually, we do need to be saved. Gurbani calls this "udhaar" (uplift). Without Satguru, souls are liable to spiritual death: ਜਿਨਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨ ਭੇਟਿਓ ਸੇ ਭਾਗਹੀਣ ਵਸਿ ਕਾਲ ॥ p40 Those who have not met Satguru Purakh are unfortunate and liable to death. So, yeah, we do need to be saved, and Guru ji does the saving. The reason Satguru is the one to save is because God has given Satguru the "key" (kunji): ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਹਥਿ ਕੁੰਜੀ ਹੋਰਤੁ ਦਰੁ ਖੁਲੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੭॥ In the True Guru's hand is the key. None else can open the door. By perfect good fortune the Guru is met. p124
    • That's unfortunate to hear. Could you give any more information? Who was this "baba"? He just disappeared with people's money? Obviously, you should donate your money to known institutions or poor people that you can verify the need of through friends and family in Punjab.
    • Sangat ji,  I know a family who went Sevewal to do seva sometimes end of 2019. They returned last year in great dismay and heart broken.  To repent for their mistakes they approached panj pyaare. The Panj gave them their punishment / order to how t make it up which, with Kirpa, they fulfilled.  They were listening to a fake Baba who, in the end, took all the "Donations " and fled sometime over a year ago. For nearly 4 years this family (who are great Gursikhs once u get to know them) wasted time and effort for this fake Baba. NOT ONLY this one fam. But many, many did worldwide and they took their fam to do seva, in village Sevewal, city Jaitho in Punjab. In the end many families lost money in thousands being behind this Baba. The family, on return, had to get in touch with all the participants and told them to stop.  I am stating this here to create awareness and we need to learn from whom we follow and believe. It's no easy but if we follow the 3 S (Sangat, Simran and Seva) we will be shown the light. As I am writing this the family in question have been doing the same since 2008 onwards and they fell for this Baba... it is unbelievable and shocking.  This am writing in a nutshell as am at work on my break so not lengthy but it deserves a great length.  Especially the family in question, who shed light on youngsters about Sikhi 20 plus years!!

    • Leaving aside Guru ji, the general question of taking afeem (opium) in limited quantities for war/medical wounds is simply unproblematic. When you go to the hospital, they give you morphine. What do you think morphine is? It's an opiate. Even codeine (cough syrup) is an opiate! Ever had a cough? Granted, it is against Gurmat to take opium or other drugs for the fun of it.
