FUNDAMENTAL RIGHTS

Right to Freedom of Religion

25. Freedom of conscience and free profession, practice and propagation of religion.-

(1) Subject to public order, morality and health and to the other provisions of this Part, all persons are equally entitled to freedom of conscience and the right freely to profess, practise and propagate religion.

(2) Nothing in this article shall affect the operation of any existing law or prevent the State from making any law-

(a) regulating or restricting any economic, financial, political or other secular activity which may be associated with religious practice;

(b) providing for social welfare and reform or the throwing open of Hindu religious institutions of a public character to all classes and sections of Hindus.

Explanation I.- The wearing and carrying of kirpans shall be deemed to be included in the profession of the Sikh religion.

Explanation II.- In sub-clause (b) of clause (2), the reference to Hindus shall be construed as including a reference to persons professing the Sikh, Jaina or Buddhist religion, and the reference to Hindu religious institutions shall be construed accordingly.

How come we don't see sikhs in India fighting this issue?

hehe, i asked my wife when we got our marriage certificate which says hindu marriage certificate...she said, hmmm.......wow, that's wrong...

it's called assimilation...slowly slowly slowly...

sikhs in india are too patriotic to see these things as an issue. they think it may offend their hindu friends and neighbors. Also, any sikh who brings this issue up is automatically a Pakistani backed hard core khalistani mass murderer who is jailed and tortured, killed and made to disappear.

and of course we have our philisophical sikh brothers and sisters who believe no paper can change our identity but I bet they use many papers in their lifetimes to verify thier identit such as name address etc. you know the usual hypocrisy of super philisophical bhartis.

Is there anything we non-Indians can do about this issue? If a non-Sikh reads the constitution, he/she will think that Sikhs are Hindus, which is wrong.

No Sikh leader has ever signed the Indian constitution therefore the Indian state nor the pakistan state has right to exist according to those who believe in regaining Sikh sovereignty over the homeland of Greater Punjab. They are just temporal entities, which will crumble within 10-15 years or less.
