I wanna know, wot point is having a Kirpan if you dont know how to use it? Dont get me wrong, im not saying there is no point to it. But i wanna know how one can defend themselves with a Kirpan if they have never trained how to use it? There are LOADS of people who have taken amrit but dont train how to use the Kirpan.

The reason why this topic has been bugging me is that i had a dream last night that i was in a situation where i needed to pull out my kirpan to defend myself and my mother however when i took it out of its sheath, i didnt know what to do with it and i felt so stupid that i had this weapon which could save me but i didnt know how....

Anybody shed any light?

i think it takes minimal skills to know how to use a blade with a handle...

also its better than nothin..

so ya theres a point even though some ppl might not know how to use it efficiently and effectively

Moral: Learn to use it, but don't underestimate someone just 'cause they haven't had formal training in the usage of a blade. Even the greatest warrior can be brought down with one lucky slash of their opponent.

can a kirpan also serve a symbolic purpose, as to remind us that we should not strike fear in anyone, and also not fear anyone either.. and we are suppose to look out for those in need and help them

yeah kirpaan serves both a practical and symbolic purpose. nice observation soldier

a good start would be to sharpen ur kirpan, its not use to u if its as blunt as a butter knife

Try this with your friends as a training point and see how easy it is.

thats why its necessary to LEARN ..

i dont agree with the point thats been made about the fact that the beholder should just be able to use the kirpan minimally and that it wud be enough.

in my opinion, everyone who takes Amrit should be told to train how tp use the kirpan PROPERLY - i mean imagine this yeh, someone on the street is getting raped or sumthing and this person screams to you to help them and to defend them but u turn round to them and say "sorry... i dont know how to use my kirpan properly..."

And there are a LOT of shasters out there everyone should have knowledge of. How many people in this cybersangat can say that they would be able to fight in real bloody battles??

I think minimal knowledge of how to use a Kirpan is DEFINITELY not enough...
