I appreciate all that but Sarbloh is a metal which has been blessed, its not a ordinary metal. The rust factor doesnt matter because i always polish, oil and sharpen my kirpan on a regular basis and most of the Singhs i know do the same. If you made it Sarbloh your sales will really increase in my opinion.

Just do a bit of research behind Sarbloh and why its so close to Sikhi and just take it into consideration please Singh.

Until its made from Sarbloh ill stick with my trusty Tiksali Sarbloh Kirpan, hhhhmmmm Sarblohh

The only logical reason to wear sarbloh is to make up for the iron deficiency we have because of our vegetarian diets.

During Guru Gobind Singh Ji's time sarbloh was the best available material for Kirpans. If he were alive today I'm confident he'd support our decision to utilize the best material available which is a good quality stainless steel.

What I can say is that the sarbloh used in Guru Saahib's time was not pure iron. This is seen from the artifacts that we have from that period. I think the problem could be with our idea of a 'pure' metal. We're thinking elementally pure and assume that sarbloh should be pure iron. However, pure iron is impractical to use and is next to impossible to obtain outside of labs. It is weak and brittle and can't be fashioned into any useful utensil. In my thinking, sarbloh refers to that group of iron alloys in which the great qualities of iron are available in a usable form. Adding Carbon doesn't make it 'impure.' It simply increases the strength and makes the iron capable of being used, while maintaining the desirable effects of iron. Alloying simply allows the practical use of iron. Don't consider the tiny amounts of carbon to be impurities but as an integral part of sarbloh, without which we wouldn't be able to access the desirable properties of sarbloh. Iron definitely has some special properties, that can only be known by those who've experienced it.

Thanks for all the feedback so far.

The prototype has a 6" blade and the overall length is about 12 inches. It would be possible to make a smaller Kirpan but it depends on the feedback we get.

It would be very hard to find a high quality knife manufacturer that could produce a Kirpan with an Iron blade. Iron is just not used any more as a modern blade material, Steel has many advantages over Iron as a blade material, it does not stain, corrode or rust as easily as Iron. Steel will also take a much better edge than Iron and it will hold it much longer.

Steel is basically a refined version of Iron. Alloys such as Carbon, Chromium, Vanadium and Molybdenum are added to increase the toughness, wear resistance and corrosion resistance. The presence of the carbon makes the steel stronger and harder than pure iron.

Thanks,

Kam

Thats not the point, its best if the kirpan is sarbloh, same as kara.

What is Sarbloh? It would be impossible to make a pure iron kirpan. Pure iron (100% Fe) would be next to impossible to make. Even in labs, you won't find 100% pure anything.

When people say Sarbloh they are talking about the material that is used for manufacturing karre and batte, its not steel but it has least amount of carbon content.

It is probably Wrought iron. I have no problems with Sarbloh karre and batte but it is too soft for blades and swords.

How much Iron is acceptable? 98%? 95%? 90%?

We might be able to use Carbon Steel which has a higher Iron content than stainless.

Sarbloh? which has no real mixture measurement, fixed composite or definition and in the purity fixation some people have is useless as an effective cut drag/slice blade. In the form of bludgeon weapons its great taba, gadas, maces, axes etc. But in this idea people have as the great pure wonderful metal for full tang swords blades etc, sorry but its kinda rubbish.
