1,500 kilograms of gold goes into making of a Tamil Nadu temple

Sripuram (Tamil Nadu), Aug 24 : Devotees and curious onlookers flocked to the Narayani Lakshmi Temple in Tamil Nadu, which has been plated with nearly 1,500 kilograms of gold, worth billions of dollars.

The Narayani Lakshmi Temple is located on 100 acres of land at Sripuram in Tamil Nadu, about 125 kilometres from Chennai.

It has been constructed by a religious foundation, headed by spiritual leader Sakthi Amma, which runs schools, colleges and hospitals in the region.

The temple complex, covering an area of 55,000 square feet, is covered with intricate carvings and sculptures. The entire structure, except for the pathway, has been made in gold.

Residents and temple officials claim the temple is superior to the Golden Temple, the Sikh shrine in Amritsar.

Temple officials reason that people will initially come to the temple to experience its novelty, but "will experience so much that it will transform them internally".

"We need to bring the whole world in the path of peace and joy. That means we need to give the wisdom to everyone. So, we should have some strong force that will attract the world. In this world there is materialism, then you have such things like this 'Golden Temple', which has never existed," said Arul Thiru, a temple official.

The pathway to the temple has been laid out in the shape of a star with messages of 'Amma' and quotes from the Bhagwad Gita, Bible and Quran displayed on either sides.

Over 500 goldsmiths, craftsmen and artisans have been working for six years, while devotees from across the world have made huge contributions.

"The actual estimate for the this project is about three billion rupees. The amount, the gold that is used for the temple is about 1,500 kilograms," Thiru added.

After its consecration, the temple will be thrown open to devotees and visitors.

In what way is it superior?

Money cannot buy Bani and hence the new place can attract tourists but not devotees.

History, culture and devotion cannot be created by money.

Golden temple is not great that it is made of Gold, it is great because of its atmosphere, you can feel sikhi there, our Gurus our shaheeds and this is what makes Golden temple great.

Even if they spend entire GDP (Gross Domestic Product) of India they cannot create even 1 percent of Golden temple.

There is an amazing katha by Bhai Guriqbal Singh ji where he says why Sahib Sri Guru Arjan Dev Ji Maharaj said "dithey sabhe thaav, nahi tudh jeheya". Because Sri Harmandir Sahib is the one and only place on this planet where your body and soul both get nourishment round the clock- 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days an year in the form of Gurbani keertan for the soul and langar parshada for the body. Who is gonna beat that?
