Sat Sri Akal,

Just a general question, when does Amrit should be given to a child.

Some say that when they are old enough but again it is no clear answer.

My uncle wants my nephew to be Amritdhari but he is six and a half years old, some thought he is too young,

just not aware what right age is?

Please advice.

Well yeah, an old enough age is maybe after 14 yrs old.. when they can make their own decisions.

If he does make the kid take Amrit, then would he force him to wake up at Amritvela? Make him do Nitnem everyday? Make him wear the 5 Kakaars? Doesn't sound too promising in my opinion..

..End of day, it's up to the individual if they are ready to take this big step.

i think its good that ur uncle wants ur nephew to be Amritdhari but i think they are going about it the wrong way they should slowly introduce sikhi to him with stories etc.........if they force sikhi on him he will resent them and rebel in a MAJOR way in his teens.

someone once told me that a child was born not long go. . .the first words he spoke were vaheguru . . .later on he asked for amrit, the parents both amritdhari decided he was too young. . .he asked a couple of times then passed away. watever age dsnt matter. without a guru one does not obtain mukhti

Waheguroo jee ka Khalsa!

Waheguroo jee kee Fateh!

I say too young.... sikhi is a personal choice, and any kid of 6 who is told to take amrit probably will, but that's still not the child's choice. IMHO, the only thing worse than not taking amrit is taking it then backing out later. Wait until the child has a grasp of what they are getting into before taking amrit. Sometime in their teens?
