Negative as it sounds, don’t expect this online petition to be the be all n end all. Unfortunately the general mainstream sangat still need convincing that this is beadbi and we will find this sangat are very non-reactive to these situations. Secondly there needs to be backing from the likes of the local council of gurdwaras, jathebhandis who also need to be convinced this is a problem. All in all the what you are up against is that the majority do not see the adverse affects of these melas hence a crappy response to the petition.

Keep at it and maybe organize a big national gettogether to address the issue nationwide not just local…Or travel around to different towns and communicate the concerns to the sangat, make them realize it’s their futures that will be effected. Sometimes all it takes is a small kick up the backside for the majority to wake up and I think a petition is not going to do it.....

We thank everyone who signed and supported the petition because it allowed us to prepare a proposal of sangat views and present all the views and concerns peacefully to Organisers.

The concerns and views which the petition helped us to compile was handed over in the meeting. Your help and support allowed us to meet with the 20 or so representatives of the "Birmingham Council of Sikh Gurdwaras" alongside community leaders from other areas (Wolverhampton) and some youth representatives/sevadaars. We feel the petition created an impact with organisers.

Hopefully some positive action will come from this awareness. We thank everyone concerned including the organisers but especially the sangat.

Hence, petition is now over since it has served its initial purpose of gathering thoughts of sangat to present to organisers.

For people the Word Guru is just another indian word. The true meaning and stature which is given along with it, is not within these people. They could care less.
