People here will most likely tell you to make your own food to be safe. I eat out though, so I'm not the best one to give you more detail on the subject. :@

Sat Sri Akal,

The master is true, his name is true, his saints are true, his devotees are true.

You can if you want to start reading some translations of SGGS ji, read a few pages etc when you have time. Guru's left the Truth for the world to see through SGGS ji. Read truth, serve truth and become truth.

first of all WOW, its sooo gd to hear that mahraj has done kirpa on u!!! :)

yay!

ok, as for the diet..... mostly all cakes have egg in, so its best to avoid, so does snickers, and mars bars, erm, i think other chocloates are fine.

just be careful what u eat, some stuff has gelatine in too.

erm, try and eat lots of soya too... thts really gd for u and substitues meat.

erm, so yeh, check what u buy lol, and personally i'd say to make ur own food, and avoid eating out, becasue no matter how 'clean' the place seems... it really isnt....especially the way food is handled.

good luck penje, and its gr8 to hear that ur lifes changed for the best :@

Read the ingredients of everything u eat. Also many things are glazed with egg so you cannot eat pizza's at certain places. Even if they have vegetarian pizza...they will say yeah no egg....then you ask 'was it glazed using egg' they will be like erm yup. Same thing fos pastry and bakery products so be careful with them.

Also be careful with ice cream. Haagan Das use egg in their icecream so cannot eat there. Beware of pasta, even some breads have egg so check that too and then with salads be careful of coleslaw, mayonnaise, chocolate etc. Basically just read ingrediants of everything u are about to eat (no assumptions) and ask lots of questions!

I went vegetarian about 5 months ago, i've been weight training for a few years and ate lots of eggs, tuna, salmon and of course chicken. When i did stop eating meat i needed to find an alternative protein source. Cottage cheese is great. Soy products are essential to a vegetarian diet. Get a decent protien shake. Lots of dal and rajma! You will basically have to read the labels of everything you buy. Other posters have mentioned snickers and mars. Also be careful of gelatin, not only is it found in most yogurts but it is also present in many vitamin and health pills. If you eat cheese, makesure it is not made with RENNET. Rennet is from a baby cows stomach. Choose cheese made from microbial cultures. Bottom line read every label and good luck.

something similar happened to me about a year and a half ago. i completely changed the path i was taking in life. such is the power of gurbani and saad sangat!

i used to eat meat everyday, and when i decided to become vegetarian it was hard at first because i was unsure what to eat. also all of my family still eat meat. but with time it will get a lot easier. just read the ingredients of everything. i am actually so happy i am vegetarrian because the diet is a lot healthier and you are forced to discover new amazing veggie foods which i wouldnt have ever tried if i still ate meat. :@

regarding paath. Download all your nitnem mp3s from the internet, i recommend the boss website (british organisation of sikh students). Also get yourself a gutka (prayer book), if u cant read gurmukhi then you can get ones which have english transliterations. listen to the mp3s at the same time as you read your paath to learn the correct pronunciation.

regarding general lifestyle, just take everything slowly, and aim to prepare yourself for amrit in the future be that 1year away, 5years, 10years. just try to better yourself. Every night be introspective. look at at the good and bad things you have done and try to improve/not make the same mistakes 2moro :)

There are some good books you can read about sikhism to give you good information about lifestyle and spirituality of a sikh. i strongly recommmend se keniyhaa, bandiginama, garland around my neck, dawn of divine wisdom.

try to make friends with amritdharis, having 1 or 2 can also make a big difference and help keep you motivated to follow this path which at times can be hard.

all the best

What do you mean by it isn't clean by the way the foods have been handled? What have you seen? I've never personally experienced a problem.

If I ever noticed that conditions were not satisfactory, I would never go back to that establishment again. You can usually judge how clean a place is by the way their bathroom looks. If you're talking about things like no gurbani recited when the food is prepared, then that is a different matter entirely

    • the whole 'your husband/wife is chosen for you'/sanjog thing is real, it's just that a lot of people end up marrying the wrong person. they did not end up with the person that was meant for them. my friend, you should marry someone who you feel a connection with and love. there are millions of sikh girls, i'm sure you can find someone who aligns with your sensibilities and who you can truthfully say that you love. sikhi does not say anything against love marriages. you can also be in a loveless arranged marriage which is a safe option b/c both families are more inclined to keep the union intact. i was one of those people who was like meh, i guess i'll just get arranged to some sikh. well i finally started dating for the first time this year and i'm getting married to someone that i love and cannot even imagine leaving. i think it's better to have lost & lost than never loved at all. unfortunately, a lot of people confuse love w/ looks & lust. a lot of men go for the fittest girl they can find and think they won the jackpot or something. in reality, your partner should be like an extremely loved best friend. there's a reason why it's a fact that the most stable and long-lasting relationships started as friendships.  i also think a lot of women are petty and divorce over small reasons, but there's other terrible things like high cheating rates as well. that's why the divorce rate in the west is high. be careful out there.
    • andrew tate praises sikhi too & likes sikhs. his brother also donated to sikh families iirc. they just like any "alpha" religion and tbh islam is the most "alpha" in their eyes. islam is very good at promoting that image. but imo a real alpha man doesn't command respect by beating up his wive(s) or forcing them to wear a burqa. a real man will have his woman listen to him w/o raising a hand or his voice, and command respect by being respectful. he leads by example and integrity. that's true masculinity. you get the idea. + yes, it's definitely true that islam is growing rapidly and making massive inroads. strength in numbers + belief will do that. but rlly it's just because of the birth rate. a lot of them are muslim b/c it's their "identity" just like how a lot of young sikhs will say they're "culturally sikh" or whatever. there just aren't billions of sikhs who lambast their identity everywhere and have strict and linear rules like in islam. besides, the reality is that islam and its followers are some of the most morally bankrupt. you can see all the weird trans rules in iran, bacche baazi in afghanistan, visiting brothels, watching p*rn, p*dophilia what goes on behind the scenes in countries like uae & qatar, etc, and come to your conclusions. you can google all the stats yourself and see which countries do the most of these ^.
    • stop associating with hinduism, that's the absolutely worst thing you can do as a sikh. not sure if you noticed but the entire world looks down upon and spits at india & hindus, literally no one respects them and considers them weak and cowardly. literally 1+ billion of them but not perceived as a strong religion commandeering respect.
    • you wrote a whole lot but told us nothing. what exactly did you do wrong to make you feel this way?
