Guru Granth Sahibji To Be Traslated Into 13 Different Languages

Our guru granth sahib is a living guru... and surely you remember that all our living gurus traveled the world and SPOKE to the inhabitants in their own language.

Its insane to demand that everyone has to learn only ONE language to understand SGGS... our gurus tried their hardest to break down all barriers to spread their knowledge to the world. That means that they travelled as far as they could go, they spoke as many languages as they could, they invented gurmukhi originally to prevent only a small minority (i guess that would now be "punjabis") from hogging all the gurbani.

Gurbani is for everyone, and translations are essential. If someone gets enough of a translation that inspires them to "go back to the original source" then thats fine, and that's their kamayee, but we should be trying to fulfil our gurus mission of getting gurbani out to everyone, everywhere.

The second we translate it, it's no longer Dhur Ki Bani, but the translator's interpretation. It's ok to use translations in parts but we have no authority to print Sampooran Guru Granth Sahib Ji with different words from what Guru Sahib revealed.

Note that transliteration is entirely different to translation and perhaps more acceptable.

White and Black Sikhs in the USA have no problem learning Gurmukhi and Punjabi, why should anyone else?

One of the strengths of Islam is the inisistance on learning Arabic to read the Quran first hand for themselves, whether the Muslims are white, brown, black or yellow. That hasn't stopped them spreading their religion.

There are huge differences between the old Greek New Testament Bibles and the English translations and look at the problems that has caused in the world.

We have to change to become acceptable to Guru Ji, not the other way round.

for parchaar of sikhi and for the kalyaan of jagiasus its a good thing. the whole world has a right to seek salvation and release from churasi lakh joon. however this is no small thing and the whole maryada thing and after thought and process should be well planned. then it has a chance of succeeding.

Shud some1's kalyaan depend on thier ability to learn gurmukhi?

How are they going to get kalyaan if the translations are wrong or don't convey the true meanings?

Gurbani is poetry, you can't translate it without losing its essence and without the translators adding their own opinions. In the end, you end up with what SOMEONE THINKS Gurbani is saying rather than what Guru Ji revealed.

Gurbani works on deaf and blind people as well, just listening with concentration can give you Mukti - whether you understand the words or not. We have no right to present our opinions as Gurbani, which is what a translation is.

One thing iv never understood is that when people say guru sahib should not be translated into other languages is that if what they say is true shouldnt we have the sanskriti parts of guru sahib in sanskrit the hindi parks it hindi and the gurmukhi parts in gurmukhi? if you say that we should keep it the way guru sahib wrote it then having guru sahib all in gurmukhi is rong too then? umm i onno thats just iv wondered its not even my whole opinion, please somone clearify?

It's one thing explaining something in another language, like we do here, but Guru Granth Sahib Ji cannot be changed. It's ok to have booklets or Gutkey but the form of Guru Sahib should remain unchanged to give future generations the chance to view for themselves the EXACT Bani Guru Sahib revealed.

Guru Sahib wrote the different languages in Gurmukhi script!! Transliteration is NOT translation.

We are lucky that Guru Sahib has been unchanged since Guru Gobind Singh Ji dictated the final version. Guru Sahib is our living Guru, not a book of songs. Those words are straight from Sach Khand and we cannot change them.

You only have to look at how many different English translations there are to see that it is impossible to accurately translate Gurbani.

Who will have the gyaan, kamai and avastha like baba deep singh to do such seva? baba jee was one of the 48 singhs that listened to the sampooran arth katha by guru gobind singh jee.... changing the language will change arth etc, todays sikhs cant even repsect maharaj jees pavitar saroop, let alone those of other faiths. they are calling maharanth only a granth, holy book, i can imagaine how much satkaar they must be giving, whilst doing the seva

But...didn't Baba Deep Singh Ji write a copy of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji in Arabic?

FROM SIKHIWIKI - Baba Deep Singh Ji had been summoned to Damdama Sahib to work with Bhai Mani Singh Ji preparing the final text of Sri Guru Granth Sahib. Guru Gobind Singh Ji recited the entire Granth Sahib to them while they wrote out the text. After its completion Baba Deep Singh Ji continued, for several years, to hand write four additional copies of the holy scriptures. These four copies were dispersed, a copy each to: Sri Akal Takhat Sahib, Sri Takhat Patna Sahib, Sri Takhat Hazur Sahib and Sri Takhat Anandpur Sahib. Later the learned scholar inscribed another copy of the Sri Guru Granth Sahib in Arabic script. It was sent to the Middle East.

I also heard this in Katha as well.
