I had an indepth reading done for me (you give details like exact time and location of birth) and they work it all out for you. Used to believe it too - it was soo accurate. But then realised it's accurate up to a point.

The way I see it, that horoscope is true at the time of your birth. If you follow a predetermined path, then you have a predetermined fate. However, if you have Guru's blessing, your fate changes. Every simran you do, every act of seva alters that fate.

In the end, your fate is in Maharaj's hands.

let me tell u guys a short story....then you guys can decide on ur own wat u think of it.

during the times of dharam yudh there was singh in baba jarnail singh's jatha who told baba ji that at his pind, there was a fortune teller, and that he would look at the lines on peoples hands and tell their futures. baba ji asked how this was possible, because nobody knows about the time to come besides guru ji. baba ji said that he wanted to meet this fortune teller dude, so the singh went to his pind and got em. they came back to darbar sahib, and all the singhs were sitting in a room, (cant remeber where at) and baba jarnail singh told the fortune teller if he could see people's futures, and the guy said yes. baba ji then picked out a singh sitting in the room, and told the fortune teller to tell the singh's future. the guy kept looking at the singhs hand, but couldnt figure anyting out. baba ji then picked out another singh, and told the fortune teller to tell his future. the guy, again, stared at the singh's hand, and had no answer. baba ji then picked a 3rd singh, and told the fortune teller to see's his future, but like the previous 2, there was no responce. baba ji then took the fortune teller guy upstairs, where there was parkash of satguru guru granth sahib ji maharaj, and right infront, where u would normally do mata tek, where were lines and lines. a whole bunch of them, all over the place. baba ji told the guy, that the future of guru nanaks sikh's is at the feet of their guru, guru granth sahib ji.........

baba ji says that we can change our karams just by doing mata tek in front of satguru.......the more mata tek, the better.....

A scientific, logical, ethical, and spiritually guided mind has no faith in superstitions. However, human culture due to the egoic dysfunction of the mind, relates to such pathological concepts.

Superstitions create anxiety, fear, and misplaced hope in the place of reasoning, logic and critical thinking. Unfortunately the practice of superstition exists in human culture since many ages.

As a result cultural ideologies usually have managed to condition the 'non-critical' mind of the individuals who have succumb to such beliefs.

However, it is a boon not to criticize individuals who act in this way, because they will often react with anger and delusional outburst convincing you that your ill fate lies with some superficial event.

There are many places in Gurbani that such practice has been denounced, because it corrupts the mind and the individual as well as those around them. THis is the nature of the egoic mind. What is ego? Ego is Edging God Out. The nature of the mind is that the ego likes to survive on primitive thinking.

A simple search shows the following clues towards such practice:

har bisarath sehasaa dhukh biaapai ||

Forgetting the Lord, superstition and sorrow shall overtake you. - Ang 190

maan moh khoeae gur bharam ||

The Guru has dispelled pride, emotional attachment and superstition. - Ang 196

Here we clearly see that if we do not Edge God Out (with ego) that the mind is dispelled of these negative attachments that burden humanity. Superstition also exists in modern societies, look towards hollywood and media today, there is evidence of odd and false beliefs. I will not criticize any religion, but there is apparent superstition and allusion in many individual's who attempt to monopolize the experience of God.

bhram kee kooee thrisanaa ras pa(n)kaj ath theekhyan moh kee faas ||

Superstition is the well, thirst for pleasure is the mud, and emotional attachment is the noose, so tight around your neck. - Ang 204

rog bharam bhaedh man dhoojaa ||

The mind is diseased with doubt, superstition and duality. - Ang 416

Again we see clearly, that it is the Dysfunction of the mind that such things seep into and create duality. Just as bacteria can infect the body if we continue to consume rot, we will be in a dual state of illness and recovery, but never in a state of optimum health.

paakha(n)dd bharam oupaav kar thhaakae ridh a(n)thar maaeiaa maaeiaa ||

Practicing hypocrisy and superstition, people have grown weary of the effort, but still, deep within their hearts, they yearn for Maya, Maya - Ang 1178

outham madhhim jaathee(n) jinasee bharam bhavai sa(n)saar ||

High and low, social class and status - the world wanders lost in superstition. - Ang 1243

Again we see that people, without critical judgement on any particular individual or group, are lost in discovery of the Lord by following superstition's.

mithhiaa bharam bharam bahu bhramiaa lubadhho puthr kalathr moh preeth ||

In false doubt and superstition, people wander all around, lured by love and emotional attachment to their children and families. - Ang 1295

We see as well that much superstition is created in the duality of existence. We must keep families, but we must believe that their care is in line with the Source of the Universe. Not in line with our thoughts that such and such will create positive health. We must also follow the best research and make educated and critical decisions.

guramukh sukh fal paar outhaaraa ||8||

The Gurmukhs who reject all superstitions enjoy happiness with their Lord and get across the world-ocean.(8) - Bhai Gurdass Ang 5

Finally, we see that rejection of such practices allows us to create peace and happiness within the mind, Trusting in the Creative potential of the Lord we can cross the world ocean.

Hopefully from a scientific, critical, and spiritual reasoned place you will see that superstition's will lead one astray from True Purposeful living...
