yet another solution, probably the easiest, would be to check maharaj out of teh library and never return them, and pay the fine whatever that may be (never too much for Maharaj)

Get in touch with your local gurudwara comitee all of the sangath, politicians, whoever.... explain that the Guru Granth Sahib Ji is OUR GURU NOT A BOOK. Explain that it is the equivalent of putting a barcode on Jesus, Buddha, Mohammed, and etc. and putting them on a shelf. Do what you must to immediatley take Guru Ji out of there!!!

I called the library and they said it isnt a saroop. It is almost Lareevaar Sancheeyan translated into english and into separated Gurmukhi. Theres 7 volumes. The left column is Lareevaar. The middle is english. The right is "normal gurmukhi". But Banee is Banee. So Lets keep trying.

its easy to take the sanchiyan out from library. talk to local sangat and gurudwara and politicians ( also just talking directly to the city office; as most libraries fall under city jurisdiction, might solve it in no time)

don't forget guys, by removing the english translation from library we will be taking away the opportunity for other communities to learn about us and GGSji.

i ask you and others to go get advice from intelligent sikhs that you trust and hold in high esteem who are 40, 50, .....etc. years old. they definitely need your energy and you definitely need their wisdom.

I came across a copy of Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji too in the university's library here. It was printed in devanagari though, so i thought then that at least it's not in gurmukhi. But it's still the same message and same Guru ji's bani. And it was in one volume.

But i agree that it's important that people would have the access to Gurbani even when they can't go to Gurdwara or have an internet to read it. Maybe some booklet could be attached telling that Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji is not "just a book" and some guidelines about the proper way to show respect to it. I mean someone who borrows Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji must have at least some interest in sikhi, and if they only had the right information and realized the importance of it, they wouldn't mind handling Gurbani with at least some care and respect.

I agree with harsimran kaur phenji, a copy of guidelines should be given along with the copy of Dhan Dhan Guru Granth Sahib Ji, stating its not merely a 'sacred text' but is considered Guruji by sikhs and these sentiments should be respected. My guess is a significant population of people who go to read/cite Dhan Dhan Guru Granth Sahib Ji in libraries could be from non-sikhi background, maybe someone might be a student of comparitive religion or just plainly interested in reading more about the Sikhi message. These are the people that need to be told the ethics of handling a copy of Dhan Dhan Guru Granth Sahib Ji, whereas Sikhs should already know about this.

Also, I think libraries should be guided to have a seperate section where Dhan Dhan Guru Granth Sahib Ji is read with as much rehit as possible, i.e, covering head, taking off shoes etc. I know it sounds impractical and hard for libraries to take this rule on, but with a little bit of persuasion, we just might get this implemented? Adding to this, i think Dhan Dhan Guru Granth Sahib Ji should be reference only, that way at least some sort of better respect can be shown to the Guruji?

The saroop of guru Granth Sahib ji that me and my friend saw was in gurmukhi plus it had english transaltions. I have looked around at another library and i haVE seen 4 senchia of Guru Granth Sahib ji that are in pure english transaltion. I personally felt the need to respect the senchi my taking off my shoes and making my hand suchay but i dont think the english translations are an issue. The transaltions are a tool for people studying sikhism they are not the actual bani they are just translations. I truly dont no what the maryada is concerning this but these are what my views are. The guru Granth sahib ji is for evryone we canèt label it JUST FOR SIKHS rite

but we WILL NOT TOLERATE the Disrespect of our beloved father this is our duty as sikhs.

bhainji, sure guru sahib is for everyone, only if they show respect to the scriptures so we shouldn't take a back seat to not tackle issues such as disrespecting gurbani like that.. can you update us on whats happening with the library issue?

Talk to the local Gurdwara authorities in your area...Tell them to do something about it...Or talk to the MP you mentioned above...
