How many times we have seen in india that punjabi hindus considered themselfs superior and bravest then other hindus , i want to know by removing sikh history from punjab what will left for punjabis to be proud of ? As far i know punjabis were beaten many times by pathans ,mugals and turks. On what these punjabi hindus feel proud of.

Fateh Ji,

I often feel that Punjabi Hindus have a hatred for Sikhs in their genes.

I'd penned this article some time back:

"Sadstic" Humor

Vikramjit Singh - Guest Columnist

(KP)

I recall sometime back I attended a party and the guests were predominantly Punjabi Hindus. I was

the lone Sikh and as I hopped from one group to another I noticed one similarity in all the groups, and the similarity was that all of them had a huge stock of Sikh jokes. From innocent to bawdy to down right insulting, the jokes made me go red in the face, but alas the guests took pleasure in my discomfort and continued with their Sikh bashing vide their jokes. I quietly excused myself and left the party.

A month later I attended another party and this time the host of the party where I had to bear the Sikh bashing was there. Only this time the tables had turned and in this party he was in a minority as majority of the guests were Sikhs. I think he remembered what had transpired at his party and he gave me a couple of sheepish looks. Here too I hopped from one group to another. From politics to sports to holidays were the topics of discussions. No jokes at the behest of any religion. Nearing the end I met my Hindu friend, whose party I had attended, and he literally hung his head in shame as I shook his hand and bid him adieu.

Quite some time back in my college days I had a Punjabi Hindu friend who was habituated to cracking Sikh jokes. It so happened one day that while walking out of a restaurant we frequented, he skipped a step and fell down and hurt himself badly. All the others after fussing on him for some time walked off and ultimately it was me and another Sikh boy who took him to the hospital and as his parents could not be contacted we waited for a good six hours in hospital, being his attendants. Thereafter this lad never cracked another Sikh joke in my presence.

I was traveling in the local train in Bombay a group of youths were teasing a Sikh boy by showing him their watch. It was noon time and they were teasing him that it was 12 o’clock. I got up and accosted them and asked them if they knew the history behind 12 o’clock. I told them that when marauders came into Hindustan and took captive thousands of Hindu women it was bands of Sikh warriors who attacked these marauders and freed the Hindu women and then returned them respectfully back to their homes. They did this at risk to their own lives and as they were outnumbered by the marauders they attacked them tactfully at a time when humans become slow in the responses. This is either at noon or midnight. Looking at the Sikh youth I told him to wear the 12 o’clock joke as a medal as our ancestors had done us proud and to pity these guys who were actually laughing at the cowardice of their own ancestors who did not have the guts to try to free their women. The group of boys slunk out at the next station.

Just recently there was an article about a jathedar who had married twice. I met a Hindu friend and he immediately said that now I could marry twice. I kept quite and just shrugged and changed the topic. But, this fellow smelt the blood of my hurt and so he just went on and on. When it got too much I just questioned him if Hindu ladies could marry four men? He was shocked and looked hurt. I informed him that Draupadi had married four men and so had set the precedence for Hindu women to marry four men. I then told him that recently the Shankacharya was in the news for all the wrong things but, had I ever made a mention of this?

What hurt me was an article penned by a columnist of the Hindustan Times, Mr Vir Singhvi, in which he says that stopping Sikh jokes would be an infringement on his right of speech. What about our rights? What Vir does privately is none of my business, but if such jokes are cracked in public then Sikhs have every right to object. The problem is that people like Vir have a warped sense of humor and a sadistic streak. They have to hurt someone to laugh.

I recall I was aboard a plane and a large South Indian group was aboard this plane. One of them got up and standing in the aisle cracked a Sikh joke. As he settled in his seat I went up to him asked him if he realized what he had done? Now as I looked at him threateningly he shrunk into his seat. Imagine he had a group with him and I was alone and he was shivering. Seeing his sorry state and the worried look on his wife’s face I shook his hand and calmed him and informed him that humor was the ability to laugh at oneself and not at someone’s expense. As I left I could hear his wife admonish him. As he deplaned at Madras he passed me and shook my hand and apologized profusely.

It is time that we stopped accepting this sadistic humor and taking it in our stride. Remember to be sadistic is bad and equally bad is to bear sadism.

Guru Rakha

Soooooooo true , the reason for posting this topic was to expose the punjabi hindus hatred for sikhs ,sadly which many sikhs including in this dont want to accept. One thing i hate about these fukras punjabi hindus is there behavior towards sikhs in Gurdwaras and out side it.

In gurdwaras they will show how much they respect sikhs but out side they will say sardars are *****.

I remember my friend saying that his massi was coming from canada in a flight which was dominated by sikhs and his massi said i got mad to see so many sardars. These hindus got mad just by seeing sikhs. In india if sikhs are standing in group they people will change their ways just because sikhs are standing there. If sikhs worker do any mistake under his punjabi hindu master he will get racist remark like here u show u are sardar and many more. Punjabis hindus hate sikhs most and after them Haryanvi hindus.

There are many cases where sikhs were target by haryanvi hindu groons because they were sikhs.

LOL! Well done! On one hand people condemn Punjabi Hindus for hating, and at the same time indulge in the same. Good job! Labelling an entire community with a particular brush feels really good, but one should be prepared when they do the same back to us.

Harinder veer, my personal experience with the sub-group of Indians you claim to love is exactly the opposite, although not all among them are the same.

rajkhalsa9, you can name the author as "Singh", and leave it that. I am not sure about the Punjabi translation.

amar_jkp, a lot of what you say is sadly true, but all fingers on the palm are not the same. Although Harinder veer said there are only few Punjabi Hindus left who respect Sikhs, I would think the numbers are more than just a few.

I am not going to defend any community, because I (for obvious reasons) know Punjabi Hindus better than any of you, and so I know what positive and negative traits they portray, and I know them very well, which is why I said that a lot of what you guys say is true, but NOT all of it.

I have only one thing to tell you guys. If you approach any human being (Hindu/Muslim/Sikh/anyone) with certain pre-conceived notions in mind, and expect him/her to deal with you in a particular way, most likely he/she WILL treat you that way. The problem is when you EXPECT someone to insult you, no matter what they say, you WILL take it as an insult because you have already made up your mind as to how you are going to react. This is the most negative attitude one can have.

So my suggestion is, as a Sikh of Sahib Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji, approach everyone with pyaar. Don't think beforehand that just because someone is a non-Sikh they will insult you. If they don't reciprocate your pyaar and do insult you, then show them what Sahib Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji said is Zafarnama.

The majority of Panjabi Hindus betrayed the Panjabi mother toungue by declaring Hindi as thier ma boli which led to the eventual formation of Haryana all this was done to stop Sikhs getting more autonomy - this is a fact and has been stated by Sikh leaders world wide and most recently by Ranjit Singh Srai of the Council of Khalistan on the BBC Asian Network last month

Some are proud of Porus who although lost to Alexander in war was ready to accept execution rather than be a slave. But other than that, its just a Punjabi thing, Punjabi cultural pride. Nothing to do with religion whatsoever. Also remember, when it comes to getting thrashed by Muslims, there are many others who got thrashed just like Hindus for centuries. No one stood upto the Muslim invaders until Khalsa was established by Dasmesh Pita. Sadly today some of them are proud of their "sub-community" and not of being Sikh/Khalsa.

this thread feels like an attack to punjabi hindus which i don't understand

    • The Mind is Jyot Saroop (Waheguru), but the mind is under the influence of five evils… Through Naam Simran( Rememberance), the mind will begin to detach from evil, and get back to its original form ( MANN TU JYOT SAROOP HEH)… Until the mind breaks free from the five evils, one will go through the cycle of paap and punn….which leads to Karma… Naam Simran destroys past karma, and prevents new karma coming into fruition… I did this, I did that… This non realisation of the Jyot Saroop gives rise to paap and Punn, which in turn gives birth to suffering and misery…
    • I agree we're not born with sin like the Christians think. Also I agree we have effects of karma. But Gurbani does state that the body contains both sin and charity (goodness): ਕਾਇਆ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਪਾਪੁ ਪੁੰਨੁ ਦੁਇ ਭਾਈ ॥ Within the body are the two brothers sin and virtue. p126 Actually, we do need to be saved. Gurbani calls this "udhaar" (uplift). Without Satguru, souls are liable to spiritual death: ਜਿਨਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨ ਭੇਟਿਓ ਸੇ ਭਾਗਹੀਣ ਵਸਿ ਕਾਲ ॥ p40 Those who have not met Satguru Purakh are unfortunate and liable to death. So, yeah, we do need to be saved, and Guru ji does the saving. The reason Satguru is the one to save is because God has given Satguru the "key" (kunji): ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਹਥਿ ਕੁੰਜੀ ਹੋਰਤੁ ਦਰੁ ਖੁਲੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੭॥ In the True Guru's hand is the key. None else can open the door. By perfect good fortune the Guru is met. p124
    • That's unfortunate to hear. Could you give any more information? Who was this "baba"? He just disappeared with people's money? Obviously, you should donate your money to known institutions or poor people that you can verify the need of through friends and family in Punjab.
    • Sangat ji,  I know a family who went Sevewal to do seva sometimes end of 2019. They returned last year in great dismay and heart broken.  To repent for their mistakes they approached panj pyaare. The Panj gave them their punishment / order to how t make it up which, with Kirpa, they fulfilled.  They were listening to a fake Baba who, in the end, took all the "Donations " and fled sometime over a year ago. For nearly 4 years this family (who are great Gursikhs once u get to know them) wasted time and effort for this fake Baba. NOT ONLY this one fam. But many, many did worldwide and they took their fam to do seva, in village Sevewal, city Jaitho in Punjab. In the end many families lost money in thousands being behind this Baba. The family, on return, had to get in touch with all the participants and told them to stop.  I am stating this here to create awareness and we need to learn from whom we follow and believe. It's no easy but if we follow the 3 S (Sangat, Simran and Seva) we will be shown the light. As I am writing this the family in question have been doing the same since 2008 onwards and they fell for this Baba... it is unbelievable and shocking.  This am writing in a nutshell as am at work on my break so not lengthy but it deserves a great length.  Especially the family in question, who shed light on youngsters about Sikhi 20 plus years!!
