How Wide Should A Dastar Material Be?

Can I ask why width cannot be cut? Any reason? Also doesnt width alter with different shops?

Basically in my view and what ive heard the best material is mal mal, normally, people by a dastaar material to the length of 7.5 meters, then(n i know some people may not agree with this) people cut the material in half, effectively creating two dastaars, but like you said i thing yeh, width does varry from shop to shop, try a shop in Amritsar, n ask them for mal mal dhummalla kapra, its wiked: the lar come out nice and clean for a dastaar :D

Just some Puraatan Nihang Facts :

Khalsa should not put Dastaar in his mouth! (Some people do when they start off tying the Dastaar)

Width should not be cut!

Length must be a minimum of 7 metres

its just dal panth marayda not to cut ur dastaar,

i fink it doesnt vary with shops, the width is always about the same...

+ its mre protection for ur head alot more loll

its harder to tye with full width, takes a while to get used to it, so stick in there!!

I can understand that we shouldn't 'cut' our dastar material, I can see this can come across as disrespectful with using scissors. But then it still needs cutting when you go buy, like 5 meters or 10 meters length wise anyway. :S

When it is put into my hand i get two lowely dastaars ready to wash and wrap!!

Seriously though ive seen one singh, who before, he cuts his dastaar does quite ardas to maharaj.............lets try not to get bogged down with it too much..............if its an issue for then not cut it hanna...............just do what feels right in your heart!!

For the "cutting the width" issue, as i stated it was a Puraatan Nihang tradition. The reason for it being that you get more protection from ur Dhumalla :D
