Mandir

a true Sikh should not shy away from any house of God - whether Gurudwara, Dharmsala, Mandir, Mosque or Church

we are slowly developing the same mentality that Guruji fought against

we are slowly losing that freedom of thought and spirit which is the cornerstone of Sikhi

How many Sikh brothers and sisters bow without the slightest knowledge before the Guru Granth Sahib - it is the devotion in our hearts that is important and that can be found anywhere if our minds are focused on Akal Purakh

If that was the case and we shouldnt shy away from any god of house regardless of whether mandir or mosque.....would guru have gone through so much for us and tell us in detail not to do idol worship? If waheguru wanted us to do this what was the point of sending Guru Nanak Dev Ji to preach the true path...

Hindu gods - yes they were on earth, waheguru sent them...they come and went....it was all a creation of and a drama by the almighty

WJKK, WJKF

Hey all, I got a problem. My family is typically punjabi (eat meat, drink sharab etc.) anyway so I'm fortunate that I've been allowed to go to Punjab for Vaisakhi, but my mum wants me to go to this Balik Naak mandir, I refused and told her, the very thing which we go against, bowing to idols, we are practising. Now she's almost forcing me to go against my will, I don't even know what to do

Is your mum one of those typical Sikh women (please don't take offence, my mum did the same thing too)that do path in morning, then keep some kind of "vrat" or visit some kind of joshi. It seems to be a phenomenon among Sikh females (especially when they reach a particular age) to do this kind of thing, probably because someone in your family is a big drinker and she wants them to quit so she goes to these pandits or joshis or hears there is some joshi or pandit in India from one of her female friends that can do miraculous things, where there is some holy water that will cure your ailment, you should ask your mother what her hidden agenda is, I reckon it is something that relates to some family problem.

I personally would have no problem visiting a mandir, if you are confident in your own Sikhi then it should be no problem as long as you do not bow before a murti.

I personally would prefer to go and see mandirs in South India for the architecture, especially those thousand year old stone carved ones.
