ਪ੍ਰਭਾਤੀ ॥

Parbẖāṯī.

Prabhaatee:

ਅਵਲਿ ਅਲਹ ਨੂਰੁ ਉਪਾਇਆ ਕੁਦਰਤਿ ਕੇ ਸਭ ਬੰਦੇ ॥

Aval alah nūr upā▫i▫ā kuḏraṯ ke sabẖ banḏe.

First, Allah created the Light; then, by His Creative Power, He made all mortal beings.

ਏਕ ਨੂਰ ਤੇ ਸਭੁ ਜਗੁ ਉਪਜਿਆ ਕਉਨ ਭਲੇ ਕੋ ਮੰਦੇ ॥੧॥

Ėk nūr ṯe sabẖ jag upji▫ā ka▫un bẖale ko manḏe. ||1||

From the One Light, the entire universe welled up. So who is good, and who is bad? ||1||

ਲੋਗਾ ਭਰਮਿ ਨ ਭੂਲਹੁ ਭਾਈ ॥

Logā bẖaram na bẖūlahu bẖā▫ī.

O people, O Siblings of Destiny, do not wander deluded by doubt.

ਖਾਲਿਕੁ ਖਲਕ ਖਲਕ ਮਹਿ ਖਾਲਿਕੁ ਪੂਰਿ ਰਹਿਓ ਸ੍ਰਬ ਠਾਂਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

Kẖālik kẖalak kẖalak mėh kẖālik pūr rahi▫o sarab ṯẖāʼn▫ī. ||1|| rahā▫o.

The Creation is in the Creator, and the Creator is in the Creation, totally pervading and permeating all places. ||1||Pause||

ਮਾਟੀ ਏਕ ਅਨੇਕ ਭਾਂਤਿ ਕਰਿ ਸਾਜੀ ਸਾਜਨਹਾਰੈ ॥

Mātī ek anek bẖāʼnṯ kar sājī sājanhārai.

The clay is the same, but the Fashioner has fashioned it in various ways.

ਨਾ ਕਛੁ ਪੋਚ ਮਾਟੀ ਕੇ ਭਾਂਡੇ ਨਾ ਕਛੁ ਪੋਚ ਕੁੰਭਾਰੈ ॥੨॥

Nā kacẖẖ pocẖ mātī ke bẖāʼnde nā kacẖẖ pocẖ kumbẖārai. ||2||

There is nothing wrong with the pot of clay - there is nothing wrong with the Potter. ||2||

ਸਭ ਮਹਿ ਸਚਾ ਏਕੋ ਸੋਈ ਤਿਸ ਕਾ ਕੀਆ ਸਭੁ ਕਛੁ ਹੋਈ ॥

Sabẖ mėh sacẖā eko so▫ī ṯis kā kī▫ā sabẖ kacẖẖ ho▫ī.

The One True Lord abides in all; by His making, everything is made.

ਹੁਕਮੁ ਪਛਾਨੈ ਸੁ ਏਕੋ ਜਾਨੈ ਬੰਦਾ ਕਹੀਐ ਸੋਈ ॥੩॥

Hukam pacẖẖānai so eko jānai banḏā kahī▫ai so▫ī. ||3||

Whoever realizes the Hukam of His Command, knows the One Lord. He alone is said to be the Lord's slave. ||3||

ਅਲਹੁ ਅਲਖੁ ਨ ਜਾਈ ਲਖਿਆ ਗੁਰਿ ਗੁੜੁ ਦੀਨਾ ਮੀਠਾ ॥

Alhu alakẖ na jā▫ī lakẖi▫ā gur guṛ ḏīnā mīṯẖā.

The Lord Allah is Unseen; He cannot be seen. The Guru has blessed me with this sweet molasses.

ਕਹਿ ਕਬੀਰ ਮੇਰੀ ਸੰਕਾ ਨਾਸੀ ਸਰਬ ਨਿਰੰਜਨੁ ਡੀਠਾ ॥੪॥੩॥

Kahi Kabīr merī sankā nāsī sarab niranjan dīṯẖā. ||4||3||

Says Kabeer, my anxiety and fear have been taken away; I see the Immaculate Lord pervading everywhere. ||4||3||

Maajh, Fourth Mehl:

ਹਰਿ ਜਨ ਸੰਤ ਮਿਲਹੁ ਮੇਰੇ ਭਾਈ ॥

har jan santh milahu maerae bhaaee ||

O servants of the Lord, O Saints, O my Siblings of Destiny, let us join together!

ਮੇਰਾ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਦਸਹੁ ਮੈ ਭੁਖ ਲਗਾਈ ॥

maeraa har prabh dhasahu mai bhukh lagaaee ||

Show me the way to my Lord God-I am so hungry for Him!

ਮੇਰੀ ਸਰਧਾ ਪੂਰਿ ਜਗਜੀਵਨ ਦਾਤੇ ਮਿਲਿ ਹਰਿ ਦਰਸਨਿ ਮਨੁ ਭੀਜੈ ਜੀਉ ॥੧॥

maeree saradhhaa poor jagajeevan dhaathae mil har dharasan man bheejai jeeo ||1||

Please reward my faith, O Life of the World, O Great Giver.

Obtaining the Blessed Vision of the Lord's Darshan, my mind is fulfilled. ||1||

ਮਿਲਿ ਸਤਸੰਗਿ ਬੋਲੀ ਹਰਿ ਬਾਣੀ ॥

mil sathasang bolee har baanee ||

Joining the Sat Sangat, the True Congregation, I chant the Bani of the Lord's Word.

ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਕਥਾ ਮੇਰੈ ਮਨਿ ਭਾਣੀ ॥

har har kathhaa maerai man bhaanee ||

The Sermon of the Lord, Har, Har, is pleasing to my mind.

ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਹਰਿ ਮਨਿ ਭਾਵੈ ਮਿਲਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਪੀਜੈ ਜੀਉ ॥੨॥

har har anmrith har man bhaavai mil sathigur anmrith peejai jeeo ||2||

The Ambrosial Nectar of the Lord's Name, Har, Har, is so sweet to my mind.

Meeting the True Guru, I drink in this Ambrosial Nectar. ||2||

ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਹਰਿ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਪਾਵਹਿ ॥

vaddabhaagee har sangath paavehi ||

By great good fortune, the Lord's Congregation is found,

ਭਾਗਹੀਨ ਭ੍ਰਮਿ ਚੋਟਾ ਖਾਵਹਿ ॥

bhaageheen bhram chottaa khaavehi ||

while the unfortunate ones wander around in doubt, enduring painful beatings.

ਬਿਨੁ ਭਾਗਾ ਸਤਸੰਗੁ ਨ ਲਭੈ ਬਿਨੁ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਮੈਲੁ ਭਰੀਜੈ ਜੀਉ ॥੩॥

bin bhaagaa sathasang n labhai bin sangath mail bhareejai jeeo ||3||

Without good fortune, the Sat Sangat is not found; without this Sangat,

people are stained with filth and pollution. ||3||

ਮੈ ਆਇ ਮਿਲਹੁ ਜਗਜੀਵਨ ਪਿਆਰੇ ॥

mai aae milahu jagajeevan piaarae ||

Come and meet me, O Life of the World, my Beloved.

ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਦਇਆ ਮਨਿ ਧਾਰੇ ॥

har har naam dhaeiaa man dhhaarae ||

Please bless me with Your Mercy, and enshrine Your Name, Har, Har, within my mind.

ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਮੀਠਾ ਮਨਿ ਭਾਇਆ ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਮਨੁ ਭੀਜੈ ਜੀਉ ॥੪॥੪॥

guramath naam meethaa man bhaaeiaa jan naanak naam man bheejai jeeo ||4||4||

Through the Guru's Teachings, the Sweet Name has become pleasing to my mind. Servant Nanak's mind is drenched and delighted with the Naam. ||4||4||

KHYAL OF THE TENTH KING

ਮਿਤ੍ਰ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਨੂੰ ਹਾਲ ਮੁਰੀਦਾਂ ਦਾ ਕਹਿਣਾ ॥

Mitra pidare noonDhaal mureedaan daa saihnaa||

Convey to the dear friend the condition of the disciples,

ਤੁਧੁ ਬਿਨੁ ਰੋਗੁ ਰਜਾਈਆਂ ਦਾ ਓਢਣ ਨਾਗ ਨਿਵਾਸਾਂ ਦੇ ਰਹਿਣਾ ॥

Tudh(u) bin(u) rog(u) rajaaeeaan daa odhan naag nivaasaan de raihnaa||

Without Thee, the taking over of quilt is like disease and living in

the house is like living with serpents;

ਸੂਲ ਸੁਰਾਹੀ ਖੰਜਰੁ ਪਿਆਲਾ ਬਿੰਗ ਕਸਾਈਆਂ ਦਾ ਸਹਿਣਾ ॥

Sool suraahikhanjar(u) piaalaa bing kasaaeeaan daa saihnaa||

The flask is like the spike, the cup is like a dagger and (the separation)

is like enduring the chopper of the butchers,

ਯਾਰੜੇ ਦਾ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਸੱਥਰੁ ਚੰਗਾ ਭੱਠ ਖੇੜਿਆਂ ਦਾ ਰਹਿਣਾ ॥੧॥੧॥

Yaarade daa saanoon satthar(u) Channdaa bhatth khediaan daa raihnaa||1||1||

The pallet of the beloved Friend is most pleasing and the worldly

pleasures are like furnace.1.1

ਜਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਾ ਨ ਵਿਸਰੈ ਨਾਮੁ ਸੇ ਕਿਨੇਹਿਆ ॥

Jinĥā na visrai nām se kinehi▫ā.

What are they like - those who do not forget the Naam, the Name of the Lord?

ਭੇਦੁ ਨ ਜਾਣਹੁ ਮੂਲਿ ਸਾਂਈ ਜੇਹਿਆ ॥੧॥

Bẖeḏ na jāṇhu mūl sāʼn▫ī jehi▫ā. ||1||

Know that there is absolutely no difference; they are exactly like the Lord. ||1||

ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਹੋਇ ਨਿਹਾਲੁ ਤੁਮ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਸੰਗਿ ਭੇਟਿਆ ॥

Man ṯan ho▫e nihāl ṯumĥ sang bẖeti▫ā.

The mind and body are enraptured, meeting with You, O Lord.

ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਜਨ ਪਰਸਾਦਿ ਦੁਖੁ ਸਭੁ ਮੇਟਿਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

Sukẖ pā▫i▫ā jan parsāḏ ḏukẖ sabẖ meti▫ā. ||1|| rahā▫o.

Peace is obtained, by the favor of the Lord's humble servant; all pains are taken away. ||1||Pause||

ਜੇਤੇ ਖੰਡ ਬ੍ਰਹਮੰਡ ਉਧਾਰੇ ਤਿੰਨ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਖੇ ॥

Jeṯe kẖand barahmand uḏẖāre ṯinĥ kẖe.

As many as are the continents of the world, so many have been saved.

ਜਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਮਨਿ ਵੁਠਾ ਆਪਿ ਪੂਰੇ ਭਗਤ ਸੇ ॥੨॥

Jinĥ man vuṯẖā āp pūre bẖagaṯ se. ||2||

Those, in whose minds You Yourself dwell, O Lord, are the perfect devotees. ||2||

ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਮੰਨੇ ਆਪਿ ਸੋਈ ਮਾਨੀਐ ॥

Jis no manne āp so▫ī mānī▫ai.

Those whom You approve, are approved.

ਪ੍ਰਗਟ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਪਰਵਾਣੁ ਸਭ ਠਾਈ ਜਾਨੀਐ ॥੩॥

Pargat purakẖ parvāṇ sabẖ ṯẖā▫ī jānī▫ai. ||3||

Such a celebrated and honored person is known everywhere. ||3||

ਦਿਨਸੁ ਰੈਣਿ ਆਰਾਧਿ ਸਮ੍ਹ੍ਹਾਲੇ ਸਾਹ ਸਾਹ ॥

Ḏinas raiṇ ārāḏẖ samĥāle sāh sāh.

Day and night, with every breath to worship and adore the Lord -

ਨਾਨਕ ਕੀ ਲੋਚਾ ਪੂਰਿ ਸਚੇ ਪਾਤਿਸਾਹ ॥੪॥੬॥੧੦੮॥

Nānak kī locẖā pūr sacẖe pāṯisāh. ||4||6||108||

please, O True Supreme King, fulfill this, Nanak's desire. ||4||6||108||

Maajh, Fourth Mehl:

ਮਧੁਸੂਦਨ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਤਨ ਪ੍ਰਾਨਾ ॥

madhhusoodhan maerae man than praanaa ||

The Lord is my mind, body and breath of life.

ਹਉ ਹਰਿ ਬਿਨੁ ਦੂਜਾ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਜਾਨਾ ॥

ho har bin dhoojaa avar n jaanaa ||

I do not know any other than the Lord.

ਕੋਈ ਸਜਣੁ ਸੰਤੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਮੈ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਦਸੈ ਜੀਉ ॥੧॥

koee sajan santh milai vaddabhaagee mai har prabh piaaraa dhasai jeeo ||1||

If only I could have the good fortune to meet some friendly Saint;

he might show me the Way to my Beloved Lord God. ||1||

ਹਉ ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਖੋਜੀ ਭਾਲਿ ਭਾਲਾਈ ॥

ho man than khojee bhaal bhaalaaee ||

I have searched my mind and body, through and through.

ਕਿਉ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਮੇਰੀ ਮਾਈ ॥

kio piaaraa preetham milai maeree maaee ||

How can I meet my Darling Beloved, O my mother?

ਮਿਲਿ ਸਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਖੋਜੁ ਦਸਾਈ ਵਿਚਿ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਵਸੈ ਜੀਉ ॥੨॥

mil sathasangath khoj dhasaaee vich sangath har prabh vasai jeeo ||2||

Joining the Sat Sangat, the True Congregation, I ask about the Path to God.

In that Congregation, the Lord God abides. ||2||

ਮੇਰਾ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਰਖਵਾਲਾ ॥

maeraa piaaraa preetham sathigur rakhavaalaa ||

My Darling Beloved True Guru is my Protector.

ਹਮ ਬਾਰਿਕ ਦੀਨ ਕਰਹੁ ਪ੍ਰਤਿਪਾਲਾ ॥

ham baarik dheen karahu prathipaalaa ||

I am a helpless child-please cherish me.

ਮੇਰਾ ਮਾਤ ਪਿਤਾ ਗੁਰੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰਾ ਗੁਰ ਜਲ ਮਿਲਿ ਕਮਲੁ ਵਿਗਸੈ ਜੀਉ ॥੩॥

maeraa maath pithaa gur sathigur pooraa gur jal mil kamal vigasai jeeo ||3||

The Guru, the Perfect True Guru, is my Mother and Father. Obtaining the

Water of the Guru, the lotus of my heart blossoms forth. ||3||

ਮੈ ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਦੇਖੇ ਨੀਦ ਨ ਆਵੈ ॥

mai bin gur dhaekhae needh n aavai ||

Without seeing my Guru, sleep does not come.

ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਤਨਿ ਵੇਦਨ ਗੁਰ ਬਿਰਹੁ ਲਗਾਵੈ ॥

maerae man than vaedhan gur birahu lagaavai ||

My mind and body are afflicted with the pain of separation from the Guru.

ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਦਇਆ ਕਰਹੁ ਗੁਰੁ ਮੇਲਹੁ ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰ ਮਿਲਿ ਰਹਸੈ ਜੀਉ ॥੪॥੨॥

har har dhaeiaa karahu gur maelahu jan naanak gur mil rehasai jeeo ||4||2||

O Lord, Har, Har, show mercy to me, that I may meet my Guru. Meeting the Guru,

servant Nanak blossoms forth. ||4||2||

Sirīrāg mėhlā 5 gẖar 7.

Siree Raag, Fifth Mehl, Seventh House:

ਤੇਰੈ ਭਰੋਸੈ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਮੈ ਲਾਡ ਲਡਾਇਆ ॥

Ŧerai bẖarosai pi▫āre mai lād ladā▫i▫ā.

Relying on Your Mercy, Dear Lord, I have indulged in sensual pleasures.

ਭੂਲਹਿ ਚੂਕਹਿ ਬਾਰਿਕ ਤੂੰ ਹਰਿ ਪਿਤਾ ਮਾਇਆ ॥੧॥

Bẖūlėh cẖūkėh bārik ṯūʼn har piṯā mā▫i▫ā. ||1||

Like a foolish child, I have made mistakes. O Lord, You are my Father and Mother. ||1||

ਸੁਹੇਲਾ ਕਹਨੁ ਕਹਾਵਨੁ ॥

Suhelā kahan kahāvan.

It is easy to speak and talk,

ਤੇਰਾ ਬਿਖਮੁ ਭਾਵਨੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

Ŧerā bikẖam bẖāvan. ||1|| rahā▫o.

but it is difficult to accept Your Will. ||1||Pause||

ਹਉ ਮਾਣੁ ਤਾਣੁ ਕਰਉ ਤੇਰਾ ਹਉ ਜਾਨਉ ਆਪਾ ॥

Ha▫o māṇ ṯāṇ kara▫o ṯerā ha▫o jān▫o āpā.

I stand tall; You are my Strength. I know that You are mine.

ਸਭ ਹੀ ਮਧਿ ਸਭਹਿ ਤੇ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਬੇਮੁਹਤਾਜ ਬਾਪਾ ॥੨॥

Sabẖ hī maḏẖ sabẖėh ṯe bāhar bemuhṯāj bāpā. ||2||

Inside of all, and outside of all, You are our Self-sufficient Father. ||2||

ਪਿਤਾ ਹਉ ਜਾਨਉ ਨਾਹੀ ਤੇਰੀ ਕਵਨ ਜੁਗਤਾ ॥

Piṯā ha▫o jān▫o nāhī ṯerī kavan jugṯā.

O Father, I do not know-how can I know Your Way?

ਬੰਧਨ ਮੁਕਤੁ ਸੰਤਹੁ ਮੇਰੀ ਰਾਖੈ ਮਮਤਾ ॥੩॥

Banḏẖan mukaṯ sanṯahu merī rākẖai mamṯā. ||3||

He frees us from bondage, O Saints, and saves us from possessiveness. ||3||

ਭਏ ਕਿਰਪਾਲ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਰਹਿਓ ਆਵਣ ਜਾਣਾ ॥

Bẖa▫e kirpāl ṯẖākur rahi▫o āvaṇ jāṇā.

Becoming Merciful, my Lord and Master has ended my comings and goings in reincarnation.

ਗੁਰ ਮਿਲਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਪਛਾਣਾ ॥੪॥੨੭॥੯੭॥

Gur mil Nānak pārbarahm pacẖẖāṇā. ||4||27||97||

Meeting with the Guru, Nanak has recognized the Supreme Lord God. ||4||27||97||

|ਮਾਈ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਕੋ ਸੁਖੁ ॥

Maaee maerae man ko sukh.

O my mother, my mind is at peace.

ਕੋਟਿ ਅਨੰਦ ਰਾਜ ਸੁਖੁ ਭੁਗਵੈ ਹਰਿ ਸਿਮਰਤ ਬਿਨਸੈ ਸਭ ਦੁਖੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

Kote anand raaj sukh bhugavai har simarath binasai sabh dhukh ||1|| rehaao ||

I enjoy the ecstasy of millions of princely pleasures; remembering the Lord

in meditation, all pains have been dispelled. ||1||Pause||

ਕੋਟਿ ਜਨਮ ਕੇ ਕਿਲਬਿਖ ਨਾਸਹਿ ਸਿਮਰਤ ਪਾਵਨ ਤਨ ਮਨ ਸੁਖ ॥

Kote janam kae kilabikh naasehi simarath paavan than man sukh ||

The sins of millions of lifetimes are erased, by meditating on the Lord;

becoming pure, my mind and body have found peace.

ਦੇਖਿ ਸਰੂਪੁ ਪੂਰਨੁ ਭਈ ਆਸਾ ਦਰਸਨੁ ਭੇਟਤ ਉਤਰੀ ਭੁਖ ॥੧॥

Daekh saroop pooran bhee aasaa dharasan bhaettath outharee bhukh ||1||

Gazing upon the Lord's form of perfect beauty, my hopes have been fulfilled;

attaining the Blessed Vision of His Darshan, my hunger has been appeased. ||1||

ਚਾਰਿ ਪਦਾਰਥ ਅਸਟ ਮਹਾ ਸਿਧਿ ਕਾਮਧੇਨੁ ਪਾਰਜਾਤ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਰੁਖੁ ॥

Chaar padaarathh ashatt mehaa sidhh kaamadhhaen paarajaath har har rukh ||

The four great blessings, the eight supernatural spiritual powers of the Siddhas,

the wish-fulfilling Elysian cow, and the wish-fulfilling tree of life -

all these come from the Lord, Har, Har.

ਨਾਨਕ ਸਰਨਿ ਗਹੀ ਸੁਖ ਸਾਗਰ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਫਿਰਿ ਗਰਭ ਨ ਧੁਖੁ ॥੨॥੧੦॥੨੯॥

Naanak saran gehee sukh saagar janam maran fir garabh n dhhukh ||2||10||29||

O Nanak, holding tight to the Sanctuary of the Lord, the ocean of peace, you shall not

suffer the pains of birth and death, or fall into the womb of reincarnation again. ||2||10||29||
