The Pruan Sant or Real Sant is the One who lead you to the Correct Marg of SGGSji. Because in KALYUG, Only GUru Nank Devji is the SATGURU(no other). And SGGSji is itself Saroop of Guru Nanak Dev ji and 9 Patshahis.

SANT knows the marg.Path to Satguru, There Sant act as a Vichola to lead you to SGGSji. If we look at Sant Samaj Back ground, All Puran sants have told GURU Maneyo Granth beacuse THey Have achieved Param Pad from SGGSji.

THerefore any person /Sant who doesnot lead you to the SGGSji Mat , then He's Fake.

I would also agree with the above definitions, but most importantly a saintly person (whether they belong to the sikh religion) have key characteristics such as as:

- humilty (never seeking the limelight or attention)

- service to other/community (whether this is by their hand or through maya, missionary work, this can be done in many forms

- standing on principles of truth and justice (this is essential, many saintly persons have been those willing to stand against various forms of tyranny and oppression- not just speak but also show in thei actions like Sant Jarnail SIngh Bhindranwalay

- their every action/thought/deed is around Gurmat/Seva/Simran (this can also occur with other faiths- eg Mother Teresa)

this is an interesting topic

My veechar is the first sant/Gurmukh who opened the dera may may have been a Sant. However when that Sant passes on the gadhi, it doesnt mean that gursikh getting the gadhi automatically becomes Sant. That Sant has kamai, but doesnt automatically make him a gurmukh. It just then becomes a seva. As the gadhi goes on and on, the kamai of the gursikh gets less and less.

in Anand Sahib (written by Guru Amar Daas Ji) guru ji says

"Aavoo sant pyario akath ki kari kahani, kare kahani akath keri kith dware paiyeh"

"Come, beloved saints, let us speak the unspoken speech of the lord, how can we speak the unspoken speech of the lord? which door will we find him"

is Guru Amar Daas Ji calling himself and speaking to himself in this thuk???

Bhai/Bheen Sahib ji,

Dass has clarified this in my previous post:

The 'Sant' word in Gurbani does not exclusively refers to human beings who have achieved Param Pad , it has also been used for Guru Sahib and also saints( holy souls, sadhsangat).

In this pangti, SatGuroo ji is making this call to all Sikh(devotees) in Sadhsangat form by calling them ''Santoh" in the end.

Here is the full translation of the 9th pauree of Sri Anand Sahib.

Come, Beloved Saints, let us speak the Unspoken Speech of the Lord.

How can we speak the Unspoken Speech of the Lord? Through which door will we find Him?

Surrender body, mind, wealth, and everything to the Guru; obey the Order of His Will, and you will find Him.

Obey the Hukam of the Guru's Command, and sing the True Word of His Bani.

Says Nanak, listen, O Saints(devotees), and speak the Unspoken Speech of the Lord. ||9||

An enlighten spiritual soul would have already acheived their aim. What would be reason for Guru Sahib for asking them to surrender their mind ,body and soul again in the 3rd line? (if some still insist it refers to a 'mahapursh')

Such souls have already obeyed HIM, what is the reason to ask them to re-obey Vahiguroo again?

take note that,

ਸੰਤ ਪਿਆਰਿਹੋ = plural

ਸੰਤਹੁ = plural

The HUKAM given in the pangti above is same for all of Humanity and those who come to Sri Guru Ji's sharan and become his devotees.

There is a book by Bhai Sahib Randhir Singh ji called "Sant Pad Nirnai" . It will provide all the answers you might have regarding over this issue. Bhai Sahib has extensively quoted over 250 Gurbani lines to shed light in this issue.

im sorry but i dont agree with you here, regarding sants achieving their aim already - if someone has accepted sikhism they have to accept guru ji to obtain salvation, they can still be sant but they have to accept the puran guru 1st to get to sachkhand!! guru ji is referring to sant obeying guru jis hukam....regarding the gurmukhi and english translation of this - thats exactly what it says...what you have said is your own interpretation/assumption

in no way does guru ji refer to sant (in plural) as humaity......it literally says sants and nothing else....i dont mean to offend you or anyone else for that matter but we need accept bani for what it is and not make assumptions to suit our own beliefs - we all know wat happend to baba ram rai when he changed gurbani and the meaning of it (he was banished by guru ji and told never to return).....we need to understand gurbani in gurmukhi language.....although i feel the english translation does enough justice to wat i have said......reading and understanding the actual gurbani will always give a fuller understanding!!

Phul chuk maaff karnii
