Excuse my ignorance on this whole topic but is there any reference to them being Sikh? I couldnt see a karra or anything similar to that as i skipped through the video (admittedly i didnt watch the whole thing) but i didnt find any reference to it being sikh?

Im not saying its ok, not at all btw, just not too sure if i missed something. The only thing i picked up was "going to the temple" and i always assumed Hiindu went to temples?

I don't know, im out of touch with all this so i may be wrong...

Well most of these types of Sikhs nowadays refer to the Gurdwara as a temple even committes do 'ramgharia temple'.They coudlnt say the actual word gurdwara as there would if been more outrage , and nowadays a kara is not , 'fashionable' to them.Panjabi video Panjabi antics - Sikh girls Sikh ppl that's the impression ppl will get as they see Sikhs doing this mostly not to mention the sikh producers

Below is an exmaple of what i said in my previous post.

Sikh Youth need major reform in the UK their are 3 camps now,

* 1st type ,Ones who dont give a damn ,Gurdwara is a boring ritual and all they see is a pic of Guru Nanak,Nagar Kirtan is a day out to date, and eat food, club nights everyday, get drunk with all sorts, have a <banned word filter activated>,drugs maybe, they dont care about Sikh Panth or even Panjabiyat.Every Singh to them is a freshie or a sad religious looser who is an alien of sorts to them, can be seen to get Sikh guys attacked if they think that the Sikh guy is insulting them when really hes just trying to save them. This type easily hate on Sikhi, insult it and wont hesistae to even swear at their own families while running away with a non Sikh.

*Type 2 Think they're religious wear a Khanda and act all big on Vaisakhi ,and hype on about fights with <banned word filter activated> and so on,2 mins later either <banned word filter activated> in one hand or a bottle. The same type will claim Khalistan and yet wave India flags on cricket matches. - More Corrupt Panjabis than Sikhs

*Type 3 , Amritdharis,Non Amritdharis ie Moneh Sejhdhari, who want to do something for their community but are totally shunned by the 1st two types and taken for a joke by them.Their parents don't care about them nor do Gurdwaras, they are left to fend for themselves - through self discovery and while they can be western in ways always stick to their roots of Sikhi and want to learn more about their past - so they can help forward the panth.

Below are examples of what I have been saying all along about Sikhs like us being shunned for speaking out, lack of education is the panth

#6 Sharanjeet Toor 2010-12-11 14:10 How sad that someone has to write an essay on it… there poverty, social injustic, racism etc in the world and this person want to make a cause out of this?

Do you a favour and put ur time to something useful… like getting an education?

Simply Bhangra should keep it on and not be pressured by someone who I feel has an out of touch opinion. If at every opportunity a militant fundamentalist has an issue with something, do we have to give in?

Hi I wanted to provide a response to an argument about a MC Special vid. In my opinion you should feature the viewpoint from an Asian female who lives in Hounslow, myself!

I'm not a fan of MC Special, but feel compelled to comment after witnessing a laughable argument.

Simply Bhangra should keep it on and not be pressured by someone who I feel has an out of touch opinion. If at every opportunity a militant fundamentalist has an issue with something, do we have to give in?

If you take it off it shows that your not catering for the large majority of people who like it or have no opinion on it.

The funniest thing is that the video is a parody of how sad people make hateful comments online and in reality they're losers. The fact you didn't get that shows your level of intelligence. Look at the comment she makes about the girl being ugly and saying she should be in the video. Walking talking contradiction. Oh the irony!

Bhangra music is supposed to be fun it's got nothing to do with religion. MC Special is URBAN UK Bhangra and the video reflects URBAN UK culture. Secondly the actresses are playing CHARACTERS in the story. It's not like the bad behaviour is rewarded either; the girl is taught a lesson she'll never forget in a light hearted way. Did you want her to be pulled out of the club by her hair or get beats because that's happens too and from the sounds of it, something you'd condone.

Also where is Bhangra music played? In clubs and weddings where people get drunk and have a good time.

If you feel you need to walk out of the room of embaressment when your with your parents then you need to grow up or should get your own place (I assume your not under 18 ).

If you believe that girls are going to go out and follow what the girls done in the video then I feel you are mistaken. How many people watch Bhangra videos and then like a knee <banned word filter activated> reaction run down Southall park dressed in traditional punjabi outfits and do bhangra?

The girl mentions temple and not gurdwara so don't try and make it a sikh thing. She could equally have been Hindu. The Mum wears a Bindi, not many sikh women do, but hindu women do.

To be fair they should post my response under his as you can't have a debate with only one viewpoint.

Thats what I think, Simply Bhangra is a great site and everyone should be given a chance to be creative and express this.

The Door Ni Kulni is a great and popular video too. Shall we ban that too because it shows a 40 year old man cavorting with young girls in a limo? I think not!

How is it possible to try and take the moral high ground when you use swear words in your arguement and label girls as slags yourself. What's wrong with a girl introducing herself to a guy in a club?

Finally who is Tru Skool? A producer and not a music video director. Just because he does folk stuff doesn't mean he's an authority on Bhangra.

On balance there's far more positive comments then negative.

Oh and I saw the same comments posted on facebook under a different name. Looks like its the same person posting the same message under different identities. Bit sad don't you think.

Overall I think his outburst is a serious over reaction when I see nothing wrong with the video at all. Case closed!

Whilst I don't agree with using offensive or threatening language to confront these people, you must admit that the average person (of any background) will think what's written by the girl above is fair. Sikhs who try to raise the issue of disrespect, blasphemy, etc., will be shouted-down and labelled as fundamentalists. Its a very clever tactic by these people to bring sympathisers over to their side.

Whilst we mustn't infringe on creative freedoms (because that really is fundamentalist behaviour), when Sikhi, and Sikhs, are being affected negatively then its right to speak up and take action.

I'm a teenager who's quite into his UK bhangra music but I would have to agree that I am quite appalled at some videos that I have to see. This MC Special one is just shocking; completely and utterly degrading... but the reason why he made a video like this is because this is what most of the market (teenage girls similar to the ones shown in the video) like hearing and seeing! To quote the words of Tru Skool; "there is no quality control!".. I think the owners of Brit Asia; Jaz and Davy, should have a bit more of a screening process to what they play.. cause if they're wasn't a media outlet for these artists then they simply wouldnt bring out crap like this!

And yes I agree that the Tru Skool camp always has videos which families can sit down and watch together. I can name a massive list of people who get videos done for their songs which are just filled with booze or half-naked girls but I struggle making a list of people who make clean videos that do UK bhangra music.

Also much respect to Tru Skool and Specialist for this;

Specialist & Tru-Skool were/are 2 of the most promising producers in the punjabi music scene, incidentally Specialist I believe gave up on the bhangra scene after he took amrit, both produced the track for the IP album which johal123 has linked to.

I also remember in an interview with BBC Asian Network where Tru-Skool was asked "if you could be one famous woman, who would it be?" to which his answer was Mai Bhago. It was fitting, as it shows how in touch with their culture and roots they really are. Big up to them.

A couple of years ago on a religious Baisakhi program on the BBC AN (when I use to listen to it), they had Tru Skool (or was it Specialist?) in the studio, and he was basically explaining the meaning of Sukhmani Sahib. It was a very good program - it went on for an hour or so. I really enjoyed it, but I guess it was geared more towards the youngsters who can't read Gurmukhi.

I'm afraid i fail to see the big deal here.

I mean, why are you outraged with these girls and not enraged at goria and kalia who have worse videos? Well, the answer if obvious - because these girls MIGHT be Sikh (they could also be Hindu). But why are they an embarrassment to Sikhi? Why do you care so much? Surely they can't be considered Gursikhs, therefore they're just Indians. Or Punjabis. So, a couple of indian girls are lying and dancing in a club - what has that got to do with Sikhi? Being born into a Sikh family shouldn't mean you're automatically Sikh, in my opinion. These girls don't represent Sikhs, obviously. They just represent two indian girls. Why be angry about what other people choose to do (when it's not harming anyone) when you can focus on your own Sikhi and live & let live? I feel like you're making sweeping generalisations here about the nature of "SIKH" girls and also categorising them into "types".

Before anyone says anything, i do understand that the anger probably arose from the "temple" reference in the video.
