Members of the Sikh Federation (UK) have already had correspondence via MEPs from the Vice President of the European Commission - Baroness Catherine Ashton, who has overall responsibility for European Union Foreign Affairs (see attached).

The Federation is in the process of arranging a meeting with her and her staff.

i received this response last week from MEP Marina Yannakoudakis. In addition to contacting our MPs all sangat should be contacting MEPs and members of government in germany and france....- this goes without saying really.

Thank you for your email dated 8th June 2011.

The issue you raise about Mr Pal Singh is deeply troubling and I believe

it necessary to raise the matter at the European Commission through a

parliamentary question. Also, as soon as possible I advise you contact

the French and Indian authorities regarding this matter.

Certainly the issue is vastly complicated by the transnational nature of

the case in that Mr Pal Singh is a French national who, as you mention,

has been illegally abducted, detained and tortured by the Punjab police

in India.

The answer to the parliamentary question will be posted on my website in

due course.
