Why Is Sikh Channel Not Supporting Protest Outside Indian High Commission In Support Of Balwant Singh

Recommended Posts

Why is Sikh Channel not supporting the protest outside the Indian High Commission in London on 20 March in support of Balwant Singh?

There has been no advertising, nothing on the scroll or any meaningful coverage on the various shows on the Sikh Channel.

There have however been some who support Badal that have used Sikh Channel to condemn the protest !

Will the Sikh Channel come along tomorrow to cover the protest?

Sikh Channel needs to cover it. With all due respect to the Sangat Tv Babay, no one under 65 seems to watch Sangat Tv anymore and technically Sangat Tv's broadcast limitations won't give the protest the profile and justice it deserves. I hope Sikh Channel cover it, it will get the social media coverage too and hit a much wider global Sikh audience

This might be a presumption on my part but this better not end up becoming another Jathebhandi Vs Sikh Channel masla where both boycott each others programmes. We just about got over the Dastaar Day fiasco of 2011...

Sikh Channel is the peoples channel and panthic jathebandis are not part of Sikh people, so they did not advertise, but turned up at the Demo to save face.

The Media is not playing a sensible and responsible role, they are dividing the Sikhs and giving an impression that the Sikhs are not co-ordinated nor unified.

I would think that the Demo/protest proved that this is not the case. Similar protests in other countries, letters to politicians (with coherent messages), demo outside European Parliament Brussels all happening shows a lack of unity and cordination, l forget the only problem is that it was the panthic jathebandis doing their job and not Sikh Channel and especially DS Bal leading, so it cannot be shown that, yes Sikhs can work together.

Sikh Channel turned up today when they realised it was a massive success! Both channels need to work with the Panth's interest at heart rather than petty squabbles over who is affiliated with who. Agree that they need to move on from the Dastar Day Fiasco.

The Sangat showed yet again today its amazing presence. Brought Aldwych area to a massive standstill.

Its great to see both channels covered the protest. Well done to Sikh Channel.

Please can everyone dedicate their main photo on facebook or whatever social media to Bhai Balwant Singh Rajoana. Also maybe copy in the below text as your status.

During the 1990s, the then chief minister of Punjab, Beant Singh, was responsible for the mass genocide of young Sikh men across Punjab.

Balwant Singh Rajoana could bear the carnage no longer. In August the Chief Minister's car was blown up and the minister killed.

As a result the number of killings dropped dramatically overnight.

Rajoana accepted his guilt and has spent the last 17 years in jail. He is due to be executed on the 31st of March.

If this happens he will be the first person to be hung in Punjab in over 20 years!

Rajoana gave up his life so that the lives of tens of thousands of others could be spared. His mother shed countless tears over 17 years so that thousands of mothers would not have to.

Please change your fb photo to a photo of Rajoana to show your opposition to his death penalty.

Please take a few seconds to show that this huge act of human compassion has touched your heart.

PLEASE spread the word - to coincide with worldwide protest (and for sangat who were unable to make Tuesdays protest), there is ANOTHER Protest outside Indian High Commission being organised for FRIDAY 23rd MARCH. We are looking for young, english speaking sangat to speak and educate passers by. Please PM for more details.

    • Anyone linking the "kenyan" style turban to Ramgarhia caste is stupid lol. It came from the Jat-only Sikh Regiment in British India (folded, starched single dastar without a pinch). It's called "kenyan style" as Kenya is where it's most popular today and has a lot of Tarkhan living there but it's originally from Jatts in India. Dastar actually opposes caste as a concept anyway so it really doesn't matter.
    • you can use nrimb.com this matrimonial site is very helpful to find Sikhs and other matches for marriage in Canada.
    • Is there a need to insult someone's Dastar style? Feel some shame When you see a Sikh wearing a Dastar you should smile and think "that's my brother" ,not laugh at how he chose to tie his Pagh. Maharaj made a brotherhood in the Khalsa not a fashion contest.
    • Respectfully, this isn't a good idea bro. This is a Sikh forum so it's best not to be distracted with other topics. Most people who visit this site don't have accounts and have questions about Sikhi so we do seva here by educating the Jaante as well. Maybe create a subreddit on Reddit for "casual Sikhs" over there. It would be better as you could link that with r/sikh. And also there are like 4 people still on this site so you won't get much response. It's really inactive here most people use reddit now
    • Sikhs can sleep nanga-sirr if they choose to . Being from Punjab, almost every Sardaarji i know (amritdhari or not) sleeps/showers with their hair uncovered. I don't think Guru Sahib asked us to wear Dastar to sleep and I don't think it is in SRM. The idea of "keski being worn to sleep" is cos in Bollywood films (Bachna Ae Haseeno) Sikh characters usually tie a gol parna when sleeping since the actor's usually Hindu. So they gotta cover his head somehow or he'd have cut hair. Same reason Diljit wore a pagg to bed in the El Sueno vid. Only time they didn't do that was in Gadar with Sunny Deol which just looked odd tbh
