The Live example of the Bodh Temple under UNESCO !! SImilar will happen to us if only if darbar goes under UNESCO Name..

From the pdf file ( http://whc.unesco.org/archive/advisory_bod...ion/1056rev.pdf ) details regarding the bodh temple documents:

Legal Status

The Mahabodhi Temple is the property of the State Government of Bihar. On the basis of the Bodh gaya temple act of 1949, the state government is responsible for the protection, management, and monitoring of the temple and its properties. The Act also makes provision for the Bodh gaya Temple Management committee and an advisory board by the governor of Bihar, consisting of 20-25 members, half of them being from foreign Buddhist countries. There is a legal land act to protect the Temple’s land from illegal constructions… …The temple is also protected by the gaya regional development authority, which is responsible for the planned development of Bodh Gaya town and is advised by BTMC in matters relating to the temple and its environs.

Management

The Bodh gaya temple management committee, constituted in 1949, is the executive body for the management of the site; it works under the supervision, direction and control of the state government of Bihar. The temple comples is guarded by its own staff and the state police collaborates in its protection.

-------

It clearly states that the above bodh temple is totally under the state government control and as we know that india govt is based on central type govt which

gives less power to state so it's basically under the control of Central Government of india !!! How funny it is.. It's the same darbar sahib which was attacked by the same ppls who now wants to be the caretaker.. Is vatican or Mecca under control of UNESCO ? so why our leaders want it to be under some materialistic category "world Heritage".. Need a campaign before it's too late.. But first we should get all details of this case..

Amritsar-The move to get the Golden Temple declared as a world heritage site by Unesco by the next year may run into rough weather even as a section of international Sikh community has raised serious objections for keeping the dossier on the temple as a top secret document .

Unesco has also given credence to the objections raised by the representatives of various Sikh organisations and has asked the government of India to ensure the participation of the community before the Golden Temple is declared a world heritage site .

Dr Jasdev Singh Rai, a UK-based international adviser to the Jathedar, Akal Takht (Search), who met the senior officials of Unesco, apart from holding meetings with many Sikh intellectuals, including SGPC (Search) members, here yesterday said it was unfortunate that the dossier on the Golden Temple, sent to Unesco was kept a top secret. He said the Golden Temple was a common heritage of the Sikhs all over the world and hence the SGPC alone could not take a final decision on its own without taking the world Sikh community into confidence .

Meanwhile , in a letter addressed to Bibi Jagir Kaur, Mr Hardip Singh Mohali, an SGPC member, has raised serious objections over certain contents of the dossier. He said it was a matter of concern that the SGPC dossier mentioned it as ‘Golden Temple’ instead of describing it as a gurdwara or the darbar sahib. He said the repeated mention of ‘Golden Temple’ in the dossier created misunderstanding.

Dr Jasdev Singh Rai also showed the copy he received from the Director, Unesco, World Heritage Centre, addressed to Bhaswati Mukherji, Ambassador, the permanent delegate of India to Unesco, on the subject of declaring th

e Golden Temple as a world heritage site. The letter of the Director, Unesco reads, “Unesco has been contacted by several religious groups of the Sikh faith, based not only in India but also in the UK and Canada who were concerned over the possible impact of the world heritage listing on the character of the sacred site”.

The Unesco communication further reads , “The main issue raised by the Sikh leaders was the lack of consultation with the representatives of the Sikh community in the process of nomination”.

It clearly mentions that the removing of objections by consulting the representatives of the Sikh community was a must for listing the Golden Temple as a world heritage site. “The participation of local people in the nomination process is essential to make them share responsibility with the state party in the maintenance of the site.

Giving reasons for raising objections, Dr Rai claimed that even the then SGPC chief, late Gurcharn Singh Tohra was convinced that declaring the Golden Temple as a world heritage site would invite trouble to the shiromani committee so far as the management of the Golden Temple as per Sikh maryada was concerned. Dr Rai said that as per the provisions of Unesco, the Central Government would get a right of direct interference in the management in case the Golden Temple was declared as a world heritage site.

I see objections from Canada but not USA, Y.

We all need to continue the pressure. Dr rai has done an excellent job but we need to support him.

please post ideas

I herd some thing to day and how ironic it is,

in 84 singhs wanted indipendant religious heritage status for darbar sahib in 84 and they attacked it

now they want to hand it over. <_< People seem to still say its good. well its the worst thing that could happen. please print out letters from www.witness84.com and Sikhlionz.com and give them out at gurudwara.

may guru help us.

the lastest news is that Dr Rai is in india at the moment and is trying to talk to the leadership back home about the long term draw backs of having heritage status for Sri Darbar Sahib. ive put the link for the letter that SHRG got regarding the lack of consultation with the representatives of the Sikh community .

please carry on writing letters to UNESCO, we need to stop this until we now whats really behind this.
