Sorry bro- unbreakable and johnny101, the above comment wasn't directed at any one particular. It was cautionary proactive, setting the record straight type post so people are aware of dangers of loosing an heritage it happened in the past, its always start from stopping the parksash leading to scripture being extinct-- thats how british operated- subtle attacked sikh heritage, culture, art, scriptures to the point it becomes a trend....!!!

I respect SGPC and give sgpc credit where its due, but their past actions-destroying white washing frescos/shortening chaupi sahib/remove sri dasam granth sahib etc speaks for itself .!!!

Thats cool Brother.

From what I understand is Parkash means giving light, like we say the Suns parkash, or the suns light/rays. When Siri SatGuru Granth Sahib Ji Parkash happens, this means a. SatGuru is awake in a living metaphorical sense and b. The Light of Knowledge is ready.

Of course SatGuru Ji is always "awake", this ceremony is done out of respect.

Sukhasan, well we all know this. Sukh = peace, comfort, sleep aswell and asan is position. When SatGuru Ji takes sukhasan, this means they are sleeping.

Now the question that comes to my stupid uneducated unscholarly low of the lowest mind is, How can Dasam Granth be Parkashed and Sukhasan?

I know about the separate maryada at hazoor sahib, how authentic it is I don't know, it depend on how honest they have been (as with any "samparday or tradition").

If I am wrong, please correct me, I am not as good with words as some people are here.

If we agree that Sri Dasam Granth Sahib Ji is the bani of Guru Gobind Singh Ji then this Bani is part of Guru Gobind Singh Ji. If Guru Gobind Singh Ji and Guru Granth Sahib ji are the same why cant Prakash be done with Aad Siri Guru Granth Sahib Ji?

Now i dont want you to just skip the question asked above, really ask yourself it.

Now the way it was described to me you may or may not agree with but imagine your kirpan. It not part of your body but it becomes part of you and you should treat it as part of your body even tho it isnt actually physically part of your body we treat it as though it is as we should never be without it. The same way Siri Dasam Granth Sahib Ji is the Kirpan of Aad Siri Guru Granth Sahib Ji, may not be part of Guru Sahib but should be treated as the same.

Bhai sahib has become associated with the AKJ over time since his associates after his death continued to come together and perform kirtan. Due to the style of this keertan the name of this jatha stuck ever since.

Like taran0 says, Bhai Sahibs sacrifice was for the whole Panth and even his fellow country men. He was seen as the only non-immigrant leader of the GHADAR movement of that time.

Due to the hardships he faced in jail, including the jail authorities trying to force feed him. When this was found out, the whole panth set aside a day to pray for his well being.

Upon his release he is only person to have been awarded siropay from all the takhts if the time for his selfless sacrifice, and was awarded the 'Son-Chirri' golden sparrow of the Panth.

He fought for and won the right for political prisoners to wear dastaar and kachera instead of hats and langotis.

To find out more read his jail chittian or autobiography. You can download the English version from http://www.bsrstrust.org/books/e-books/
