I'm 15 and my parents want me to start using fixo to keep my beard straight. I had a few questions 1. Does it make your beard yellow? (I've heard that from a few people) 2. How much should I use? (should I use it everyday?) 3. Does Sikhi have anything against it?

Thanks for replying.

1. Yes it will mess up with your dhari color to mustard/redish/yellowish type color later in your age. This is probably because of chemicals used in hair fixers/gels etc.

2. Try non-chemical and natural way. Put baby oil (Johnson & johnson) on your dhari before taking shower and then brush your dhari after taking bath and press it (if you want) by tie piece of cloth around your face to flatten it (if that is your goal).

3. Nobody can give you straight answer but believe me that you will understand this question yourself if you start learning and reading more about our religion. Take on Books !

I used to go with mild gels when i was out of high school but never went for fixco as that is extremely strong product and i don't trust that product at all. For the past 8 yrs or so, im just using oil :)

We are constantly battling the mind. An idea might spark from another's point of view, but as Gurbani says the same maya is outside of us as the same maya is inside of us. Gurbani tells us a soul bride beautifully decorates herself for her husband Lord. She waits for her husband Lord, but is lost in outer beauty But Satguru does not come as the soul bride has not become beautiful from the inside. From the inside we are full of filth and don't know anything about spiritual wisdom, yet many of us want to project the image of being beautiful from the outside. What do we get out of this...........nothing!!!

Ask yourself and your parents why they want you to put on fixo? Satguru gave us a physical form of Punj Kakkar, comb your hair, wash your hair, keep your body clean by bathing, and brush your teeth. Satguru gave us the orders to keep the body healthy and there is no doubt Satguru wanted his Khalsa to look beautiful. By Satguru's standards, if you do all the above in bold to the body, you are already beautiful in Satguru's eyes. Satguru is pleased. Gurbani tells us Satguru is pleased with us when we follow his orders and when we ask for his kirpa.

If others object to your appearance because you don't conform to their liking, then in all honesty who cares. Many times people say..........i started following so and so and now i regret everything i did because of the person.............the one thing that makes me laugh the most is when Singhs say..............my wife doesn't like it when i don't fix my beard up or if i don't dress a certain way for a function..............she gives me dirty looks, she tells me how stupid I look and then I have to fix myself up because the old lady said so........you gave your head to Satguru and your wife is dragging you around.......................
