what do u guys think about the fact that at our school they think its not important to teach about the sikh gurus and sant jarnail singh bhindranwale. my sisters taking punjabi 11 and her teacher and her had a big discussion over this fact. her teacher told her that not everyone needs to know about the gurus becuase not eveyone believes in them. theyd rather spend 5 months learning how to write punjabi. isnt sikh history suppose to be a part of punjabi class or not? :lol: :T:

If there already isn't a Sikh history class in the school, it should definately be a part of the Punjabi class. What kind of school does ur sister attend?

Our Guru Sahib did good things for the whole mankind so I don't see a reason why it would be wrong for ur teacher to even talk about Guru Sahib's upkaars.

Depends where the class is...if it is in a public school, there may be a separation of religion from the academics that is occuring. Then again, if it is in a Gurudwara, there is no excuse.

I took Punjabi at a public university and we read and discussed a couple of Sakhis. The teacher didn't go into a detailed discussion about Sikhi, but he felt that Sikhi is relevant to Punjabi and Punjabi "culture".

IF i take a hindi class, i am not going to there to learn about hinduism....same could be applied here. The Language has nothing to do with Religions. If you went to learn about Gurmukhi, then obviously religious teaching should be included for it was complied specifically for Sikhi.
