A very sad news indeed. I believe this must have been the first attack on Sikhs since 1947 partition. If not, please let me know of other such attacks on Sikhs in West Punjab.

From a friend in Pakistan:

The Punjabis in W Punjab are also equally saddened by the news.

The attack on Sikhs in Nankana is really condemnable, which brought a bad name for the Punjabis living in W Punjab. The Sikhs today held a demonstration in Lahore and authorities have assured the protesters that the culprits would be held soon.

In fact, according to some news reports dozens of students of the college, who were involved in this gruesome act have been nabbed by police. In fact, the incident was prompted by a dispute over the ownership of college land, which the Sikhs had purchased to merge it into Temple, while the young students, were exploited emotionally by telling that their college was being evacuated and shifted to some other place. Government has, according to a media report took this incident very seriously and decided to constitute a commission to probe into the matter.

The students however were not supported by commoners of Nankana. The shops of Sikhs were forcefully closed by the students and two of the Sikh youths were tortured before the security personnel controlled over the situation. We are really very shameful for this incident.

It would be soon unearthed who was behind this planning and what purpose they were serving. I can only pray that this sort of incident may not be repeated in future a

t any side and the normalization of relations between all Punjabi communities could not be hindered by the approach of such fanatics. Amen

What exactly happened? Was it just kids throwing rocks around, or a formal attack on the Gurdwara led by police/government officials?

Reading the stories it sounds as if it was just the students involved.

Would be interested to know where this college is. Never saw anything that looked remotely like a college near Nankana Sahib (Janam Asthan) when I was over there. I spent a few hours with a mate surveying what was around the Gurdwara. Even found some rooms in the Gurdwara complex with what looked like red paan type spit on the walls.

Pakistan.....some respect for human rights and its citizens ? Dream on.

Ask the people of Baluchastan about how Pakistan forces respect human rights and the hundreds of people arbitrarily detained in the context of the US "war on terror illegally detained and shipped of to camp xray.
