Malaysian Airlines Shot Down - All 295 Killed

A Malaysia Airlines Boeing 777 with 295 people aboard crashed Thursday in Ukraine near the Russian border after reportedly being hit by a missile, according to an adviser to Ukraine's interior ministry.

Anton Gerashenko, the adviser, says on his Facebook page the plane was flying at an altitude of 33,000 feet when it was hit Thursday by a missile fired from a Buk launcher, the Associated Press reports.

A similar launcher was seen by AP journalists near the eastern Ukrainian town of Snizhne earlier Thursday.

It was no immediately clear who would have been in control of such a launcher in the restive area where Ukrainian forces are battling ethnic Russian separatists.

Malaysia Airlines said on Twitter that it "has lost contact of MH17 from Amsterdam. The last known position was over Ukrainian airspace."

Russia's Interfax news agency, quoting an unidentified aviation source, said Malaysia Airlines flies an Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur route that crosses Ukraine and Russian territory.

The unidentified source, according to Interfax, said the plane was 30 miles from Russian airspace when it began to go down. It said the burning wreckage of the plane was found on the ground in Ukraine.

The report, quoting the aviation source, says there were 280 passengers and 15 crew members aboard.

But the next thing is how the plane reached there? The route was straight to Beijing from Kaula lumpur .

Thats the problem of flying a commercial airliner in a conflict zone especially between Ukraine and russia who have high tech sophisticated weaponry and missiles.

It looks likely it was shot down by pro-Russian separatists, but could be anyone just have to wait to see the evidence.

No doubt passengers will now cancel tickets of any airlines that were or will be planning to fly routes over known conflict zones

President Obama hasnt really given much of a reaction to the downing of the airline which suggests russia and usa knows who downed it and who downed the first malaysia airlines which I believer america downed near malaysia during war game drills with south korea and other nations hostile to china.

Malaysia Airlines also gave a breakdown of the known nationalities of the 283 passengers: 189 were Dutch, 29 were Malaysian, 27 were Australian, 12 were Indonesian, nine were from the United Kingdom, four were from Germany, four were from Belgium, three were from the Philippines, one was Canadian and one was from New Zealand.

NEW DELHI: When Malaysia Airlines' MH 17 was shot down over Ukraine on Thursday night, an Air India flight with 126 passengers was right behind it. The flight, AI 113 en route from Birmingham to Delhi, and a Singapore Airlines flight flying home from Copenhagen were both about 25 to 50 nautical miles (40 to 80 km) behind the ill-fated Malaysian Boeing 777.

This gap, say pilots, is covered in less than five minutes. Both the planes clearly had a narrow escape.
