Bikrami Or Nanakshahi

Recommended Posts

The name of nanak shouldn't be attributed to any calendar as if its endorsed by maharaj..

Couldn't care less what calendar is used, the fact this is the issue at forefront of the leaderships concerns is a sad indictment of how much the panth has digressed.

Our so called leaderships needs spend time challenging major issues I.e. corruption, povert, islamic state..

The jathedars need shittar and throwing out of their kursia!

As always our forum supports the original bikrami calendar. There was absolutely no need to change the calendar and its format. All invited by akal takht to work the calendar issue out, purewal is also on the list and so is Gurcharanjit Singh Lamba along with other experts on this subject.

Do not know why ppl are adamant about this or that type of calender calling it nanakshahi - Does any of them starts with the Birth date of Sri Guru Nanak dev ji ? Clear view is that Bikrami calender is Lunar calender and what the guy Purewal proposed and accepted by SGPC first (and till now the back tracking is going masking mockery of the calender , the decision & the Community) and then going on making ammends mindlessly , is Solar calender - Difference being that The Lunar calender considers one rotation of Moon around earth as one month and the Solar Calender considers one rotation of Earth around sun as one year ( yet another is Stellar year which considers period between seeing same stellar (stars) position on horizon from same point of earth as one year - difference with solar year is only a few hours only - but it is more perfect but very less used . Many countries and communities use luni Solar calender too ( where some dyas are celebrated on lunar basis but the calender is Solar )

in our case malady is that the guys at the helm for deciding will never listen to or consult knowledgeable Astronomy Experts and instead will play one upmanship against one another only .If proper experts were consulted before the decision was made ( or even after) the matter would have been solver easily .

I REPEAT MY QUESTION - IF THE FIRST DAY OF THE CALENDER DOES NOT COINCIDE WITH THE BIRTH OF SRI GURU NANAK DEV JI OR ANY OTHER IMPORTANT INCIDENT RELATED TO THE LIFE OF THE GREAT GURU, HOW CAN WE CALL IT NANAKSHAHI CALENDER ;BE IT SOLAR ,LUNAR OR LUNI SOLAR ?

Widespread apostacy, massive human rights violations, drug taking and the spread of AIDS seem to have passed the almost entire Sikh Leadership by. The Takht Jathedhars, SGPC leaders, Taksal , Nihung leaders , many Babas are all together spending their time on calander issues only.

When Purewal made his faulty calendar in 2003, were there not widespread of apostasy, massive human rights violations, drug taking and the spread of AIDS? This man with his arrogance has managed to split the Khalsa Panth in two. What was his and your camps need to take Sikhs away from the Bikrami Calendar that even the Gurus used and respected? The Khalsa Panth was united on the Bikrami Calendar since Sri Guru Nanak Dev ji. Mother crying, families being ripped apart are only games for your camp and a good way to manipulate the average Sikh into saying those who followed their Gurus lead are wrong. Stop hiding behind your wifes salwar and be a man to face the Khalsa Panth.

    • This is where the vichola needs to get involved, and family!
    • Hi All, I havent been on this forum for a while but I thought id give it a try again as it helped me through some rough times earlier in my life. I wanted to seek for guidance on sikhi and marriage ... I noticed a post earlier on sanjog etc. and it got me thinking about my own life and marriage. For context, I have been married 3 years and things are not working out. When we met, I looked in to sanjog alot and it felt like it was written. However, as these years have gone by its become apparent that we no longer align with each other and our marriage is struggling. We dont seem to understand each other and things have fallen apart. We are at a stage now where separation/divorce is looking like the best option. Neither of us are happy and whilst we have tried to work things through in many different ways, after 3 years we have drifted away. What are the sikh views on this? is it written if we decide that we no longer serve each other? or is that a sin and should I continue to work at it? my issue at the moment is that it is draining me. I feel withdrawn from everything due to things going on between us including sikhi and going to the gurdwara.  Breaks my heart to even be writing this but I do think if we are both not happy and cant see a way of being happy then what is the point in continuing? Or should I be continuing and is it paap if we dont honour our laavan? if that is the case, what does sikhi say about marriage? how do I continue knowing everyday I feel the way I do?   Thanks

    • I'll use this place as my spiritual journal so if anyone wants to join then feel free to! I'm not sure if this could be classed as an experience but last week (or 2 weeks ago), I felt my saliva to be sweet however I lost it after a week. I don't really regret it though, if I lost it then it's Hukam Another point, I feel my concentration to be very good for a while, I can focus on the void for a longer period of time than I could before. I also feel a lot more Anand, it's all Guru di kirpa
