‘My Children Don’T Want To Add Singh To Names’

The first guy has really bad spelling, (just pointing that out there).

English hadn't been standardised at that point, especially with obviously new words they were encountering of foreign provenance.

Like now we've been standardised as Sikhs. Before loads of variants existed as Simran paan ji pointed out. Look at how even Hindu was written as Hindoo back then. Amrit was often written as Amrut. Connection as connexion. 'Between' was 'betwixt'. Loads of spellings that were common in 17/1800s are different now.

Interesting to observe the development of language.

Starstriker, dally, khoon etc. I'm trying to understand your reactions. They are not uncommon stances. The point about respect for all people I understand.

But the open rationalization or defense of cutting kesh as a sikh in the same breath never quite makes sense to me.

Are you saying it's OK for all Sikhs to massacre their kesh? Are you saying it is OK for some Sikhs to massacre that gift of our Guruji?

Of course not but at the same time Veer ji to get closer to the target some of the shaheeds had sacrificed their roop like Bhagat SIngh , Udam Singh , Jinda and Sukha but if they had time afterwards the returned to gurroop . Remember reading about the conversation Bhai Randhir Singh ji had with Bhagat Singh ji and the effect it had on the younger man. There is no doubt in my mind he went to his death as sabat surat inside and out .

In the old days our Singhs also disguised themselves as other faiths /jobs to achieve their aims but then many people wore dastars , kept beards so it was easier to blend with aam loki , think about it Guru Nanak Dev ji gave kesh rehit and dastar rehit so most sikhs were keshadhari and dastar wearing, the only way that they could melt into the crowds at Chandi Chowk would be if sufficient aam lok wore dastars too.

These days wearing dastar labels you as a troublemaker in authorities eyes so it is harder to get close to dusht and when you do the deed it is easier to pick you out . Still occasionally people get fooled by disguises of sikhs like caretaker Jathedar Dhian SIngh of Akal Takht Sahib. He tied his beard and did a nok vali pagg wore shirt and pants instead of the normal chola and gol dastar

What's the problem with his Pagg style? You just seem a bit over judgemental for someone who includes Mona Shaheeds, but won't let someone wear a different type of Dastar?

I totally agree with you.

I just told you, and gave you historical evidence (and there is a lot more of it) that the Sikh community has never been solely Amritdhari or keshdhari.

I don't understand why some people don't get this? It's a work of fiction or propaganda to suggest all Sikhs, post 1699 were Amritdharis, or that the Sikh community didn't exist in harmony in the past as a mixture of sehajdhari/monay and Amritdharis.

That's all I'm saying - I'm not telling keshdhari or Amritdhari Sikhs to cut their kesh.

I don't get why people don't grasp this simple thing?

those who were Gursikhs had charan pahul or later khande di pahul ...all other sikhs were in the category sehajdhari because they were from other faith backgrounds and wanted to continue in those faiths but with Jagat Guru's methods . It is not hard to understand and yet the corruption of the term sehajdhari to mean people born in previously gursikh households but shaved or cut their hair is insulting to Gursikhi . True one is not born a sikh but even the sehajdhari s of the past recited gurbani and followed Guru ji whereas these guys don't even try in any way ...

i was giving an example of disguise being used by Gursikhs in the modern era without sacrificing gurroop ...not judging it is still possible to use that technique
