What attributes are applied to god in sikhism (omni-potent, omni-present etc.), how and why was he conceived and what system do his followers follow to achieve enlightenment and is it possible to have varying answers to these questions while still being a orthodox sikh?

The writing Jaap Sahib is dedicated solely to Gods attributes

Achieving God is done through surrender to the Guru who is a mediator between man and God

The Guru then teaches and guides mankind to salvation. The guru teaches what the world is and how he is stuck in transmigration and ego under the illusions of maya

Guru teaches that man is the divine child of God and himself can become divine and enlightened through forsaking bad actions and cultivating devotional love for God through recitation of his name and performing devotional music

No need to go as far as reading Sri Guru Granth Sahib, although I'm not stopping you. All the answers are in Japji Sahib.
