AMRITSAR: Sikhs in the UK have blamed the government for ignoring the incidents of hate crimes directed at the community. "The Sikh Federation, UK was dismayed when the Hate Crime Action Plan was issued in July, which appeared to have been written as though the estimated 750,000 British Sikh community did not exist," said Gurjit Singh of the Federation to TOI on Thursday.

He said the body had written to Prime Minister Theresa May, UK home secretary Amber Rudd and secretary of the state at the department for communities and local government Sajid Javid about the hate crime directed towards the visible Sikh community.

He said for Sikhs it was not a new phenomenon following the Brexit vote, but something that raised its ugly head at the national and international level more than 15 years ago post 9/11 and had not been properly acknowledged by the successive British governments.

Chair of Sikh Federation, UK, Amrik Singh said, "More than 30 years ago Sikhs were legally recognized by the law lords, the highest court in the country, as a 'race' and afforded protection. However, whilst individual Sikhs have been successful to prosecute in cases of direct and indirect discrimination, the community as a whole has continued to suffer in silence."

He said PM May announced in late August that 'race audits' would be conducted within 12 months. "Given the way the home office and others have dealt with hate crimes directed towards Sikhs, we expect the home office to come up short and give new meaning to term 'institutional racism,'" he said.Network of Sikh Organizations, in its letter to the home secretary on November 30, stated, "At the beginning of the year we uncovered some important statistics. Twenty-eight percent of the victims of so-called 'Islamophobic' hate crime were in fact non-Muslim - Sikhs, Hindus, Christians and those of no recorded faith."

Well its our wakeup moment its time to see the open and covert discrimination in the west. The white ruling class in western establishments like to preach to other non-white countries about not treating their minorities right how about they look closer to home.

Its time for Sikhs to unify get selfish and think more sikh nationalist.

Most Sikhs are dumb. The evidence that these people don't care a hoot about us has been around for ages but they'll have no problem in finding and parading chumchay apnay that'll tell everyone what great friends these people have been to us.

Look, if these English establishment people sat around knowing full well that Sikh girls were being groomed, and did NOTHING about it, even vilifying the Sikh guys that did try and stop this (as racists or gang members), and that for decades - then how the hell are people expecting them to start supporting us now???

Jagraj Singh in his speech at Southall (the one that was broadcast just after he was diagnosed), said outright that he felt that we shouldn't be running to these people to help us for our political goals. I'd agree with this. Going to them for our problems is A) futile and B) makes us look like  a bunch of weak pajamay. No outsiders will sort out our problems - we have to do it ourselves.

How low have we got that SINGHS are asking for protection? Before they would be the ones giving protection out (for a fee), now they stand around like defenceless victims. Go figure.

I'd assume their lazy instead of unintelligent. They know what to do, they just won't do anything.

I'd listen to people on the ground here rather than make any assumptions if I was in your shoes (personally). Apnays self-efficacy in these things has been completed eroded.

They can't even imagine being able to protect themselves, let alone implement practices/strategies to actually do this. Instead they look around for others to do it for them. That's NEVER been the Sikh way.

We've been at the receiving end of endless and systematic propaganda for decades, with the end result being to stamp out all sense of martial spirit, independence, and original thought from the minds of our people. It makes us easier to control.

Sikhs have been a group that bows to no one ever since the founding of Sikhi. Dhan Dhan Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji didn't bow to Babur, Dhan Dhan Sri Guru Angad Dev Ji didn't bow to Humayun, and Dhan Dhan Sri Guru Amar Das Ji didn't bow to Akbar, (this was before Sikhs were even massively armed with Shastars).
