I agree. Also find a panj piyaraay that follow maryada and know how to use shastar, and don't just play dress up with bana which many do unfortunately!

I heard that some panj piyaraay give a special naam dhrir. Also, you're right, panj piaaray should not encourage khulla maas and instead should encourage jhatka and hunting as part of maryada,

You had an objection yet you say the contrary statement that all panj follow same maryada??? This is an interesting take on this issue from Ranjit Singh. I don't agree with everything in this video, but somethings are true.

That Barking Panj even went out of normal rehit as told to Indian abhilakhees , it wasn't a gupt scenario i.e. abhilakhee and panj . My Mum and Dad were abhilakhees and it shocked my Mum as she had amrit before in India before Marriage(forced to abandon kakkars by elders when engaged) by Kaleran wale Sant Isher Singh ji and she called out the bad advice

If you are planning to have amrit you should look at jeevan of panj for depth of bhagti rather than especially worrying about shaster vidhiya since the level of their bhagti will directly affect the level of the initial embedding of naam

VAHEGURU JI KA KHALSA, VAHEGURU JI KI FATEH

Sigh, I might regret putting this up, but whatever.

monatosingh, you can probably call Gurudwara Sahibs and check if they are having amrit sanchars and who will be doing the arrangements of the amrit sanchar. Most amrit sanchars are organized by a Sikh jatha, unless the Gurudwara Sahib is independent of any jathebandi and is itself, through a committee, organizing the amrit sanchar.  The Sikh Rehat Maryada would probably be considered a non jathebandi affiliated Rehat.  Rest of the marayadas are linked to jathebandian.

There are a variety of Jathebandis in Sikhism, all of who have variations in maryada.  But the purpose of the maryada is to give a Sikh the path on which to read Gurbani, do Naam Simran and follow a Gursikhi jeevan.  It is not meant to be a platform of debate or argument.  It is to create the environment physically, mentally, socially and spiritually to pursue Sikhi.  Please don't get caught up in the "this is right Maryada, that is wrong Maryada" - become a Sikh, follow the maryada that is given to you and make a Gursikhi jeevan out of your life.

Gurbani says to do Naam Simran (with every breath/continuously), Gurbani paath/vichaar (as much as possible) and internal introspection (daily or more frequently) - the Rehat is a framework to do this.  Please have some faith that as you pursue Sikhi, you will be guided by Guru Sahib to the right path.  If Sant Harnaam Singh Rampur Khera was a great Gursikh, he at one time did not do Paath of Jaap Sahib.  Guru Sahib (who did not show their face to Sant Ji) and his Shaheed Singhs came and corrected his mistake and he started to do Jaap Sahib paath as his nitmen and got full darshan of Guru Sahib (details in their biography).  Have a little faith - Guru Sahib will guide you.  Let's rise a little bit above Jathebandis, taking up positions in support or against them as the one true maryada or one true represnetation of Sikhi (tell me any jatha that doesn't say they are the correct ones...) and work on seeing each other and ourselves as Sikhs of the Guru.

I can't stand this guy, complete sell out like Darshan Laal et al, now just a politician  - couldn't even watch 10 minutes before I had to shut it off.

He tries to make a point that there should be one maryada but what makes  his version of that one maryada the truth?

The puratan sampardas can back up their maryada with rehtname and sine-basine passing down of sookham rehats - this guy doesn't even believe in Akhand Paath Sahibs done with maryada that comes in ithihaas because he's now a missionary they don't believe in ithiaas.

Wait, so you are saying it does not matter how much the panj follow rehit of Guru Sahib, is this the best example for amrit dharis? Should amrit dharis not lead an example of how to lead gursikh lifestyle? And here you are saying we should not worry about shastar vidiya?

Then why take khanday dee pahul from such panj, why not just take charan amrit if it is only about bhagati and naam? Remember, for a gursikh shastar abiyaas is also bhagti. To separate this is not possible. This is more like becoming a sehajdhari sikh!

I am saying that the panj have to have excellent spiritual jeevan ...Bhai Rama Singh ji was one of the panj for me as a kid as far as I know he was not known for proven battle skills or the others but we were all aware of their spiritual depths anyone can develop shastar vidhiya and be bereft of a spiritual side (just look around in the world) . Do we praise Baba Deep Singh for his shastar vidhiya alone or is it his level of Brahmgian in combination with that?

yes a combination. the aim for an amrit dhari is not to just be a sehajdhari sikh, shastar is a very important part as well.

understood bro but the opportunities in the west have to be found or made from other ustads/disciplines  who may not be sikh .e.g.. archery clubs, martial arts like escrima .  Until we make every gurdwara a learning gym this will remain the barrier to wider shaster vidhiya in the sangat

Yes, but there were situations in Bhai Randhir Singh's own life where he had to decide to bring-in some female Punj Pyare.

It would be appreciated if you could either provide a written reference from any of Bhai Randhir Singh ji's book or withdraw your comment. I say this because a lot of people read this website, and a good number of them loosely associate with or respect AKJ, and if your comment is allowed to stand, they may come under the mistaken impression that there was something wrong with Guru Gobind Singh ji's maryada, and Bhai Randhir Singh ji came and fixed it.

    • I agree we're not born with sin like the Christians think. Also I agree we have effects of karma. But Gurbani does state that the body contains both sin and charity (goodness): ਕਾਇਆ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਪਾਪੁ ਪੁੰਨੁ ਦੁਇ ਭਾਈ ॥ Within the body are the two brothers sin and virtue. p126 Actually, we do need to be saved. Gurbani calls this "udhaar" (uplift). Without Satguru, souls are liable to spiritual death: ਜਿਨਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨ ਭੇਟਿਓ ਸੇ ਭਾਗਹੀਣ ਵਸਿ ਕਾਲ ॥ p40 Those who have not met Satguru Purakh are unfortunate and liable to death. So, yeah, we do need to be saved, and Guru ji does the saving. The reason Satguru is the one to save is because God has given Satguru the "key" (kunji): ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਹਥਿ ਕੁੰਜੀ ਹੋਰਤੁ ਦਰੁ ਖੁਲੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੭॥ In the True Guru's hand is the key. None else can open the door. By perfect good fortune the Guru is met. p124
    • That's unfortunate to hear. Could you give any more information? Who was this "baba"? He just disappeared with people's money? Obviously, you should donate your money to known institutions or poor people that you can verify the need of through friends and family in Punjab.
    • Sangat ji,  I know a family who went Sevewal to do seva sometimes end of 2019. They returned last year in great dismay and heart broken.  To repent for their mistakes they approached panj pyaare. The Panj gave them their punishment / order to how t make it up which, with Kirpa, they fulfilled.  They were listening to a fake Baba who, in the end, took all the "Donations " and fled sometime over a year ago. For nearly 4 years this family (who are great Gursikhs once u get to know them) wasted time and effort for this fake Baba. NOT ONLY this one fam. But many, many did worldwide and they took their fam to do seva, in village Sevewal, city Jaitho in Punjab. In the end many families lost money in thousands being behind this Baba. The family, on return, had to get in touch with all the participants and told them to stop.  I am stating this here to create awareness and we need to learn from whom we follow and believe. It's no easy but if we follow the 3 S (Sangat, Simran and Seva) we will be shown the light. As I am writing this the family in question have been doing the same since 2008 onwards and they fell for this Baba... it is unbelievable and shocking.  This am writing in a nutshell as am at work on my break so not lengthy but it deserves a great length.  Especially the family in question, who shed light on youngsters about Sikhi 20 plus years!!
    • Giani Kulwant Singh Jawaddi Kalan uses simple Punjabi.
    • Leaving aside Guru ji, the general question of taking afeem (opium) in limited quantities for war/medical wounds is simply unproblematic. When you go to the hospital, they give you morphine. What do you think morphine is? It's an opiate. Even codeine (cough syrup) is an opiate! Ever had a cough? Granted, it is against Gurmat to take opium or other drugs for the fun of it.
