I cant believe this garbage. This is exactly why we need to stop intermarriages. They are not allowed in sikhi, and i hate how people are spoiing the sikhi name.

Some passages from the whole

Hinduism and Sikhism are much more individualistic and less formal religions than Christianity, Islam or Judaism, with less reliance on the words of scriptures or priests, so perpetrators from these communities are not inclined to justify their violence using texts, as they do in other religions, local anti-violence advocates say.

Advocates sounding the alarm over the level of abuse of Hindu and Sikh women say that in many communities, all-male clergy fear they will offend men, which makes them reticent about confronting a culture of "male entitlement" and holding perpetrators of family violence to account.

While Sikhism and Hinduism are distinct religions, there is intermingling among members of these faith communities which both originated in the Indian sub-continent and share historical practices affecting women's roles and status in society, including dowry-giving.

The entire article is really about how hindu religion supports dowry and how it is abused and etc...

but the main problem is sikhi is dragged into the middle with no evidence. Just false claims. It just says how Hindu scriptures say it's ok to abuse women, but then they sikhi is similar with no evidence.

Just because something isn't allowed doesn't mean it doesn't happen, I've been to plenty of wedding where dowry was involved under some guise or another and these where amritdhari families, it's a shameful "cultural" practice.

I'm sure you are speaking the truth.  What reason would you have to make up such lies only to curse those who are following the Guru. Those amritdharis are always pretending; keep speaking your gospel.

number one thing to note is this one of a series of articles bashing religious faiths , so the writers are out to character assasinate all people of faith by tarring them with same crime as these examples when they admit that the two faiths frown and say clearly that misusing females leads to hell.

manusmitri is the bane of all humans in India not just hindus , as the majority's attitude  poisons those whose faiths have better concepts such as equality of man, non-abuse of females, education and promotion of individuals based on ability and talent not gender i.e. sikhi

Although such abuses do happen now and then it is not a wide spread problem especially in Sikh community its more a hindu and muslim centric problem as they rely on dowry in their religious scriptures and culturally its been going on for thousands of years. The abuses are a very tiny percentage there's probably more  domestic abuse cases in Australian white privileged gay relationships than all the ethnic minorities put together.

This article smacks of white privilege and covert racist dog whistling against ehtnic/religious minority communities the sad thing is asians/indains are too lazy to reply back to such white washed propaganda.

If minorities really wanted to expose the white western cultural disgusting practices and norms such as wide spread abuse from alcoholism. Domestic violence prevalent in white communities in homosexual couples too. The amount of single parent families in white households. The outrageous neglect of elderly by white communities... then list would be endless and the whites would be outraged enough to try and defend their negative cultural practices and counter bash minority communities.

It's long over due that time ethnic/religious community especially ours started to defend ourselves in the mainstream mass media produce counter pieces and counter propaganda against our accusers. otherwise this overt racism will just keep on happening. And next time you are looked at negatively for jobs, or in the street attacked cos of your faith or appearance it is because of such articles helped contribute to it.

    • I agree we're not born with sin like the Christians think. Also I agree we have effects of karma. But Gurbani does state that the body contains both sin and charity (goodness): ਕਾਇਆ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਪਾਪੁ ਪੁੰਨੁ ਦੁਇ ਭਾਈ ॥ Within the body are the two brothers sin and virtue. p126 Actually, we do need to be saved. Gurbani calls this "udhaar" (uplift). Without Satguru, souls are liable to spiritual death: ਜਿਨਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨ ਭੇਟਿਓ ਸੇ ਭਾਗਹੀਣ ਵਸਿ ਕਾਲ ॥ p40 Those who have not met Satguru Purakh are unfortunate and liable to death. So, yeah, we do need to be saved, and Guru ji does the saving. The reason Satguru is the one to save is because God has given Satguru the "key" (kunji): ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਹਥਿ ਕੁੰਜੀ ਹੋਰਤੁ ਦਰੁ ਖੁਲੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੭॥ In the True Guru's hand is the key. None else can open the door. By perfect good fortune the Guru is met. p124
    • That's unfortunate to hear. Could you give any more information? Who was this "baba"? He just disappeared with people's money? Obviously, you should donate your money to known institutions or poor people that you can verify the need of through friends and family in Punjab.
    • Sangat ji,  I know a family who went Sevewal to do seva sometimes end of 2019. They returned last year in great dismay and heart broken.  To repent for their mistakes they approached panj pyaare. The Panj gave them their punishment / order to how t make it up which, with Kirpa, they fulfilled.  They were listening to a fake Baba who, in the end, took all the "Donations " and fled sometime over a year ago. For nearly 4 years this family (who are great Gursikhs once u get to know them) wasted time and effort for this fake Baba. NOT ONLY this one fam. But many, many did worldwide and they took their fam to do seva, in village Sevewal, city Jaitho in Punjab. In the end many families lost money in thousands being behind this Baba. The family, on return, had to get in touch with all the participants and told them to stop.  I am stating this here to create awareness and we need to learn from whom we follow and believe. It's no easy but if we follow the 3 S (Sangat, Simran and Seva) we will be shown the light. As I am writing this the family in question have been doing the same since 2008 onwards and they fell for this Baba... it is unbelievable and shocking.  This am writing in a nutshell as am at work on my break so not lengthy but it deserves a great length.  Especially the family in question, who shed light on youngsters about Sikhi 20 plus years!!
    • Giani Kulwant Singh Jawaddi Kalan uses simple Punjabi.
    • Leaving aside Guru ji, the general question of taking afeem (opium) in limited quantities for war/medical wounds is simply unproblematic. When you go to the hospital, they give you morphine. What do you think morphine is? It's an opiate. Even codeine (cough syrup) is an opiate! Ever had a cough? Granted, it is against Gurmat to take opium or other drugs for the fun of it.
