When you put it like that it does make sense I guess. When I read that Sikh Youth UK were telling people to do this it instantly sounded like a bad idea and still does because the unwitting will put their names in the letter. They should make a point to tell people not to.

Well apparently the Indian government already monitors social media.  Then when you go there to get married they put a sack over your head and torture you with no charges, and no due process.

Most of us already signed that petition, probably with our real names.

They're probably already monitoring sites like this one, whether we agree on who is a troll and not, I think we've all felt their presence already

For a start veere, we haven't the first idea of how to protest. We turn up, we stand around chit chat whilst the elders make speech after speech in punjabi and the authorities just let us do our thing. Take a look at any one of our protests in London, the UK capital. Next no police presence. Why? Because they know we won't step out of line. We're too damn complaisant. They're not the least bit bothered. The one time the police got involved (which in turn got the media involved) is when we decided to block a busy London road? Do you recall the cause of that protest? The point is, we need to up our game. Court  arrests. Be willing to make sacrifices. Sitting at home emailing standardised letters to MP's who couldn't care less, isn't going to get us far quick enough. Jagtar Singhs life is in real danger. We all know that.

Yeah I'm aware of this brother but in Jaggi's case it wasn't just social media per se. Telling the general public to send letters, some of which may not be on social media, is a risky business.

I'm sure this site came up during the Brar case.

Now more than ever social media surveillance will be a hive of activity. I don't think anyone here is likely to be under investigation just for discussing cases, ultimately who knows where they set the bar. Back in the 80s & 90s don't forget, all Amritdharis were considered a threat.

Just have to be careful with your words and be vigilant. They have bigger threats than the pakhandis here.
