What can you do to avoid the negative impacts of bad sangat when: sitting, talking, eating etc with them is unavoidable due to various different factors?

try to watch with detachment, don't look to engage in the negativity , try to think of what Guru ji gives as advice and do naam jap as much as you can

If you have bad sangat then Guru Arjan Dev Ji tells us:

Par Kaa Buraa N Raakhahu Cheeth ||

Do not harbor evil intentions against others in your mind,

Raag Asa Guru Arjan Dev

However Bhagat Kabeer Ji says that you should run away to good sangat:

Kabeer Saakath Sang N Keejeeai Dhoorehi Jaaeeai Bhaag ||

Kabeer, do not associate with the faithless cynics; run far away from them.

Salok Bhagat Kabir

The reason why Bhagat Kabeer Ji says this is because, if you run away to good sangat then you should work on yourself and make your avastha to state where you think that:

Ham Nehee Changae Buraa Nehee Koe ||

I am not good; no one is bad.

Raag Suhi Guru Nanak Dev

Then return back to the "bad sangat" and with the mindset that:

Kabeer Sabh Thae Ham Burae Ham Thaj Bhalo Sabh Koe ||

Kabeer, I am the worst of all. Everyone else is good.

Salok Bhagat Kabir

Once we realise how much work we have to do on ourselves to make ourselves better people we will stop seeing the bad qualities of other people and we will self-improve. Of course, it is natural to see the faults in others but it is our mindset that can change all this. If we are willing to change for the better then anything is possible because we are surrendering ourselves to Maharaj. Likewise, if we have the mindset that we don't want to change then Maharaj cannot help us because we are full of ego. After all, Maharaj wants the best for us so tells us to focus on ourselves and leave the rest to Him.

Naanak Chinthaa Math Karahu Chinthaa This Hee Haee ||

O Nanak, don't be anxious; the Lord will take care of you.

Raag Raamkali Guru Angad Dev

I have to come across bad sangat daily. Before I used to get angry wondering why God would make have to be near such people.

But I realised that God created heavens and hells. On earth, we have people of both psychologies(negative and positive, good and bad). Even half of the yin and yang wheel is black.

So accept that God puts bad sangat around, but we must overcome it, be positive and rise above the negativities.

Avoid bad eggs, know who you are in every scenario, know how to handle any given situation and stay true to yourself and all around you. That's what I've learned.
